Did you know? There's a woman who lives underground. She is not uncivilized, nor destitute, as you may assume. Her home is behind an unassuming door, down a maintenance road, just before where the garbage trucks sleep for the night. It has a living room, full kitchen, three bedrooms, and one and a half baths. It's a nice home, but it does not constitute a perfect life. Being stuck at home at 24 isn't awful, per se, but those wayward comments and arguments and that invisible weight? Maybe it would get to you too. On weekends, she wanders the underground. She'll sometimes stop by an old, decrepit spot that she's heard much about. In years past, it was a bar, one with residence in back. The bartender too lived underground. The bar closed before she was born. Although, it's still a nice place to visit. Every other day? She catches the bus, only a five minute walk away. It takes her above ground. She works in a CVS in the heart of the city. I heard her complain about those digital screens they put over the fridges once. I don't think she knew about the cameras, but she thought they were annoying. She wears a polyester jacket with yellow highlights and a patch sewn on the left shoulder. She has a bin full of paints and markers and a single booklet of model instructions. She believes in conversation as an exchange. She's kind, if you'll let her, but nervous to start. But, do not forget. She is a woman who lives underground.
