Its when you learn Xingba and Kairos's shenanigans have escalated to actual fighting than repeated stealing that you start paying attention. Somewhere along the way the platonic hatred became less so, and this was worrying.

You're not sure what it means when you are more worried for the heir than your moirail.

You listen every time Kairos complains or plans retaliation against Xingba, and you try focusing him on something else, though it is about as effective as you expected and the purpleblood runs off to cause more havoc for the seadweller. Sometimes you try and talk to the heir directly, enraging as he is, to politely ask of him to cease the constant struggle. He refuses, also fully expected. You're not sure why you bother.

Others on the sidelines wonder why you are so against the relationship, why it bothers you so when they see a healthy hatred blooming. Certainly, hatred was blooming, but no matter what it would only be doomed, and you only knew this because Kairos was far too easy to read to your eyes, when you stopped blinding yourself. But thinking about why made you think about other, more painful subjects, and like always, like always, you stop thinking and pull the curtains closed again.

You've started to show up a lot more, lately. When Kairos and Xingba argued in memos, you would show up to act as a referee, strong arming them into either distraction or frustration until one logged out. When they would meet in person, you would be there within five minutes or less. Both trolls were strong, but you were both strong and fast, and you could always easily disarm and separate both before they realized what happened.

They took to this about as kindly as expected. Both prideful, who usually got what they wanted. It was not a surprise that you are the target of their frustrations and anger because of your interference, unable to appreciate what you do because they never wanted it. You don't care, or at least you hope so. You don't really remember how to feel anymore.

You just hate having to go to Kairos's hive to patch him up as the dedicated moirail, listen to him laugh and rant about what Xingba did, hate having to pretend that what Kairos feels is real when you know him far too well to believe it.

Its assumed that because you are his moirail, you are biased to him. One can not be a moirail and ashen for the same troll, after all. It creates a bias, and you admit you do have one. Surprisingly to everyone but yourself, however, its towards Xingba instead. You are no stranger to Kairos's schemes and thoughts, where he is responsible for whatever conflict he is involved in. Xingba, while an idiot and aggravating, was not one to lie when it came to responsibility, and the pirate could not see he was way over his head. Ignorance allowed bliss, at least.

As much as you wished you could be unaware and ignorant yourself, you know you can not. Their hatred was doomed from the start, because Kairos had no idea what a real kismessitude was like, what the feelings were because he could not feel attachment to anything but himself. He could, and would, kill Xingba without the slightest qualm and not understand why it was wrong. The fact that the pirate was to be the next ruler of Alternia only made the situation more complicated, and he was intent on at least keeping the line to the throne secure.

So a routine is formed. Kairos steals this, Xingba steals it back and also something else, Kairos steals them back again and something else, Xingba retaliates with violence, a fight is started. You intervene, take back whatever was stolen, give them back to their respective owners, and civilly attempt to separate them. Fifty percent chance says you succeed, and part different ways with insults in their wake. The other fifty says you fail, and they escalate into a massive battle in which the most you can do is damage control and making sure no one dies.

Success or failure, in the end it still tastes like burnt cinders and grainy layers of glass powder, there's a burning sensation that burns the back of your eyes that lets itself free when you are finally alone, a sour charred feeling in the back of your throat that reminds you that you're not good enough, and you wonder if this is why they call it ashen.
