MARY - JANE.
❝ don’t even get me started — that dreadful family … ❞ she refrained from rolling her eyes, but mary-jane so desperately wanted to make a scene at the mention of the longbottoms. she wasn‘t sure if it was them in actuality, or if it was because of the reason they joined the family. mary-jane didn’t hold a single bone of forgiveness in her body, and would always hold the grudges she created for her mother since she was nine. if her mother hadn’t left, then her father wouldn’t have remarried, and frank wouldn’t be her step-brother. ❝ wasn’t trying to fight me, per se, but was certainly pissing me off. kids these days … all they do is whine and whine. skin made of pure porcelain. ❞ she pressed her lips together to fight a smile at the memory of it all — how his body flew and the impact on the table that shattered. ❝ oh, a knight in shining armour you are. she must be absolutely smitten. ❞
“ oh no , getting you started on talk of murder . whatever will i do ? ” he teased . walden really couldn’t blame her , considering what he’d heard of frank . he was glad that he didn’t have to deal with family disappointments like that . well , technically he was the family disappointment , but that was different . walden didn’t blame her for being angry and annoyed at the situation . having to share family with someone like that ? he’d hate it himself . “ honestly , i don’t know why they bother . that sounds like fun though , i always like kicking someone’s ass that clearly deserves it . bet it was fun . and someone’s got to teach them a lesson , might as well be you . i’d like to get into a good fist fight soon . ” he had a feeling that the fight he was about to have wouldn’t be met with much , if any , resistance . “ more like she was mad and gave me permission , but i don’t think that’s much of a difference . i don’t know how she feels about me . i know i enjoy her company . and the look on my parent’s faces when they saw us announce it ? absolutely worth it . they were so angry . ”

( cis man | he/him | mason gooding ) —— isn’t that WALDEN MACNAIR? yeah that is them, outside the three broomsticks! they used to be in SLYTHERIN but apparently they now work as an EXECUTIONER at PEST ADVISORY OFFICE. sybill once said that they reminded her of bruised and bloodied knuckles, late night bonfires, smelling like whiskey at events, and smashed mirrors which seems about right. anyway i’ve heard they’re still a bit CHARISMATIC, CALLOUS, and UNSTABLE, they’re TWENTY FOUR now but some things never change! i wonder how being a PUREBLOOD is affecting them after hogwarts, especially now they’re a DEATH EATER (UNMARKED)? i guess only time will tell…

MARY - JANE.
❝ we call that self control in the crabbe household. ❞ mary-jane let out a sniff of a laugh at the thought of any of them having a sense of self control — she wasn’t even sure if trixie held the trait either. ❝ boo, ❞ she pouted, but brushed it off. sure, it was probably for the best that she lay low for a bit considering her blow up in the pub on that kid. better not cause anymore scenes for a while — maybe use some of that self control she was talking about. ❝ some stupid kid, barely looked old enough to even be allowed in the bar in the first place. bloody imbecile. ❞ but merlin did it feel good to hurt him. ❝ you think ? pray, do tell. i have to lay low for a while so don’t spare any juicy details on the future plan. ❞
“ merlin i’m glad i don’t live in that household . although i guess it’s probably interesting with that longbottom . ” he couldn’t imagine they all got along , with all the things that he heard about frank . usually walden didn’t pay mind to rumors like that though he’d been listening for his own name these days . “ not the worst thing . ” at least it was something . walden had been trying to be good . he hadn’t been overly volatile or anything . the death eaters didn’t want someone like him , ready to start a fight with anyone that he could , even a leader of their organization . he’d had half a mind to go up to voldemort and punch him until he let walden join . but most people told him that was a horrible idea . “ serves him right . anyone that messes with you ought to get the boot . why the hell are kids trying to fight you ? ” he truly did not understand why so many of the younger students wanted to start fights . “ no not really , i’m just itching for a fight and i have a target in mind . one that pissed off andie , so he clearly deserves it . ”

ANDROMEDA.
❝ you might be doing fine but it doesn’t make it fine walden . i’m glad you’re all past it , glad you’re not dwelling in it but things like that matter . at least to make sure the same mistakes aren’t made again ❞ hand reaching to hold one of his for a moment . ❝ we’ll do things differently ❞ and she let it go again . ❝ i don’t want to argue with you on this but if i’m going to be your wife ? let me care about you ❞
❝ some people might’ve ❞ she shrugged looking around , it was the things like this , little things that could be so major , that were still just questions about each other . ❝ what do you think about it then ? about the future ? any greats plans , anything we should set out to achieve together ❞ she was going into this with her own plans but that didn’t mean she couldn’t work towards what aided them both . ❝ that’s very noble of you : to defend a lady’s sensibilities , to solve her problems . but you’re not a tool , and you claim you’re no defender ; so what are you ? a weapon maybe ? ❞
❝ it’s just hard not to feel like i am sometimes , you ever find like … like its easy to know something but its harder to believe it ? like i know i’m no idiot but there’s those moments every so often ❞ a second with her head in her hands before she looked up , catching his eye . ❝ i sound so silly don’t i ? i’ve got so much and then here i am complaining about all this ❞ maybe it would be easier not to think herself an idiot if she didn’t keep calling herself one ? at least walden was one of the first people she’d ever shared these thoughts out loud with . ❝ i like that you don’t just let me have my way , we challenge each other — i think that gives us a good place to build from ? ❞
she could feel her face getting redder by the minute , cheeks ablaze and hands growing clammy , a moment that was likely just seconds in reality had slowed to an excruciating crawl . a worry setting in that she’d made him uncomfortable . she’d been too bold . too presumptuous . an apology almost to her lips when she felt his hand settle at her waist . as he pulled her closer . stop talking . but she was never much one for apologies . the sorry she’d so very nearly almost said replaced by a soft ❝ wait , wha- ❞ interrupted by his lips on hers . and then instinct took over . leaning in to walden , into his touch , one hand coming up to rest on his chest as the other tangled up in his hair , pulling him closer . this time they’d do this properly .
walden thought for a second , knowing that she was right, but didn’t want to admit it . he was nervous about being in any kind of relationship that resembled the one his parents had and he didn’t care if it meant that he was pissing off andromeda to make sure that it didn’t happen . truly, he didn’t really care if he did or not . after all, he didn’t have those kinds of feelings for her . love wasn’t real and walden knew that he was playing himself if he believed they were anything other than a partnership between two people that didn’t want to be stuck . they’d chosen this and that was the distinction . he had to remind himself of that after all . “ the same mistakes aren’t being made because i’m not doing this for the reason my parents did . ” not many people knew that his parents only married because they had to . forced into marriage by their parents because his mother was pregnant , even walden had done the math . “ we’re choosing this . ” and it was a big distinction . “ yeah because i don’t hate you and you’re not pregnant . ” at least he didn’t think so . “ no one has ever cared about me before . ”
he might be a bit strange in what he did and didn’t care about , walden didn’t care though . there were reasons behind everything he did — and he didn’t have to explain himself to anyone , nor did he think that she had any reason to explain herself about experience . “ i think you’ll find that there’s not much i do care about , as long as i’m getting respect . ” what were his goals ? walden didn’t exactly know . he wanted to be seen as something more than just a pureblood man , more than a volatile man with nowhere for his fists to go . “ i guess really i just want respect , to be seen rather than looked at as if i’m a ghost . ” he didn’t know how to explain that to people , that while he had the respect of some of his peers , a lot of him didn’t see him at all . he didn’t care about blood purity like some people did — while he thought it was important , it wasn’t everything and that’s not what he was hoping to gain by joining the death eaters . “ what about you ? what goals do you have ? ” he asked . he’d do what he could to help her achieve them , if he could . walden had never thought about it like that before . “ isn’t a tool the same thing as a weapon ? ” he asked , furrowing his brow .
“ i think everyone feels like that , myself included . i’m not booksmart . i get that though . i really do . ” he didn’t think that she sounded silly , and he didn’t think that anyone that felt like that was silly . “ you sound like every human that i’ve ever spoken to . we all have insecurities andromeda . mine is feeling like i don’t belong . ” but was he wrong ? did people actually think he belonged anywhere ? “ but you , andromeda black , are special and anyone that says otherwise clearly cannot see what an amazing woman you are . ” he didn’t really want her to have a bigger ego , but he also needed her to know that she was amazing , that he thought she was amazing . “ well what fun would it be if i just let you win ? ” he asked , a smirk on his face .
he didn’t like that he felt like she was , maybe could be a weakness for him , but merlin was she enchanting . walden didn’t want to tell her that he did like her . he was still getting to know her . still figuring out how he felt . walden hadn’t expected the kiss , hadn’t expected the feeling that came with kissing her . he wanted her more than he wanted to admit to himself — and he wouldn’t tell her that just yet . “ you are entirely too short . ” he muttered into her lips , not entirely sure what he could do about it but he wanted her closer .

“Yes, exactly. It’s the specific idiot juice that’s best to serve with lamb.” Seph shrugged, accio’ing a pitcher of apple juice from the fridge. “Fine by me. I’ve got my idiot juice, you’ve got yours.”
“ i don’t know why so many people care about drinking . i bet it doesn’t even taste that good . ” walden hated drinking and people that drank . and he didn’t think it was an excuse for acting like an idiot . “ thank you . ” he took a glass and poured himself a glass of apple juice .

NARCISSA.
cissa was not easy to please and she knew that. she also knew that she came off incredibly cold and bitchy but what you see is what you got and she knew that if she wanted to make this work then she needed to try and get to know the person it was just—cissa was scared that andromeda wouldn’t have time for her anymore in the same way that bellatrix was always busy with her family now. granted, it was a family of two but rodolphus and bellatrix were a strong front and marriage changes things and she knew that she would eventually fall to the same thing having a betrothed herself now but she knew that it definitely wasn’t because of love. she hardly knew rikard and that was a whole other bit of complicated worms that she didn’t want to open. she just missed her sister who seemed to be busy now. it wasn’t anyone’s fault but narcissa’s own for feeling this way. “i’m aware,” she says with a polite smile. it wasn’t the first person to tell her that she was lucky she had a family that loved her, she knew that she was privileged in a lot of ways but because their family looked perfect didn’t mean that they were. “you’re not,” cissa agrees again, grabbing her cigarettes from her pocket. “i don’t think anyone ever will be.” she says with a smile, lighting it with her finger. “power isn’t everything though,” cissa says with a shrug, trying to understand where he was coming from, understanding that you could have all the power in the world but what could it get you? many people had wanted power for the very same reasons and history has shown that you could only have so much before you inevitably fall. she didn’t want her sister to fall.
“well, at least we know if you’re ever cold at the very least you’ll have a pair of mittens to sport.” cissa says, thinking that it was an unusual hobby but a hobby nonetheless she couldn’t say the same for herself. “when i say i’m boring i mean it. i just do a lot of reading.” she was in the slug club for a reason, she didn’t get all of the fun things like her sisters did but she knew she had the brains. “back at hogwarts i’m part of the duelling club but i think that’s about it.” she shrugs her shoulders now and blowing the smoke up into the air. “doesn’t everyone?” she says it like a question, but it isn’t one. doesn’t everyone want to feel like they belong somewhere?
families were a complicated thing, especially when it came to the macnair family. they’d made everything about business rather than love and his parent’s relationship was nothing anymore, maybe it never had been. sometimes he wondered why they even pretended to care instead of showing off how cruel they were. although, he supposed that kind of person didn’t look good to the public. if everyone knew just how awful his parents were, the whole business wouldn’t have grown the way it did. still, his parents hadn’t cared about him and had left him on his own growing up. they’d thrown him to the wolves, barred their teeth at him, and acted like he was the rabid wolf rather than them. he knew how to play a part well, even if playing that part was exhausting most of the time. sure every family had cracks, but the black sisters had each other. walden didn’t have anyone and he didn’t pretend to know what it felt like to have someone on his side. he didn’t think he was a good choice for andromeda, but that was the point. this wasn’t his doing alone. “besides, she picked me herself, so really you need to ask her what she sees in me because i’m incredibly stupid.” he wasn’t the biggest idiot in the world of course, but he did come in close second. walden wasn’t trying to be anyone he wasn’t. “exactly, power isn’t everything. if i wanted power, i would have gone into the family business. i could’ve chosen someone from a different country to court.” but he hadn’t gone that route because his parents never gave him anything, why should he give them something? no, walden wanted to stay in england, wanted to know what it felt like to have a family that cared for him—and so far andromeda was giving him at least a little taste of that. he wanted to be seen as something.
“that’s true. mittens are better than nothing.” he didn’t have many other hobbies and maybe he should start getting some. hunting was another one, though that seemed distasteful in some circles, so he didn’t typically tell people that. only a select few knew that about him. “reading can be nice, i guess. what kinds of things are you reading?” he asked, raising an eyebrow, more curious to get to know her than he expected to have been. “oh, duelling club! that’s fun.” he had never been part of that club because he didn’t see the point in learning to duel, but now it felt like it was something he needed to get better at. “yeah, i suppose you’re right.”

LIZZIE.
she bit her lip to stop her from saying what she really wanted to say , to call him a big baby who couldn’t deal with not being everyone’s priority . ❝ if you weren’t so set on making an argument of this we’d probably be saying our goodbyes already ❞ good intentions always did die hard . ❝ see , now you’re getting it . no one’s bleeding out , no one’s life or death , you all get seen when you get seen . i don’t see why you’re so set on making it the problem of the person who’s finally seeing you ❞ absent minded , bitter , comments as she focused on the task at hand . ❝ well if you’ve broken bones before , as you just said , you know that’s to be expected . it’s a clean break at least , we can patch it up today and then just some potions to take for a week and then you’re all sorted ❞ and with that she brought out her wand , tapping at his arm and saying ❝ brackium emendo ; all good now ! i’ll just write you a prescription you can take to the pharmacy out front and you can be on your way . i can even give you a lollipop for being a good boy , how’s that sound ? ❞
walden didn’t care if people didn’t like him, in fact it was easier if people didn’t like him. he didn’t like that other people couldn’t see how great he really was. for some reason, only andromeda did and walden wasn’t sure what to think about all of that. “now, now, i’m an engaged man. wouldn’t want the wrong person to think you’re flirting with me,” he said, tone sounding more serious, despite the joke. “don’t be like that. you’re starting to make me wish someone was bleeding out and i was having such a good afternoon up until now.” he looked around, hoping to spot someone to take his frustration out on as soon as he could leave this place. there didn’t seem to be anyone interesting, so maybe he’d just have to take a trip to muggle london, see who he could hurt there. or at least whine at amycus about wanting to hurt someone. one of the two situations seemed better. “i know it’s a clean break. i just want it dealt with. you don’t have to explain it to me.” he was in a bad mood now and she was only making it worse. his face twisted in annoyance as she healed the bone. “better make it quick.” he told her. “i deserve five for having to put up with this nonsense place.”

MARY - JANE.
❝ you have coworkers you haven’t killed already ? ❞ she thought she was funny at least. being an executioner was a highly skillful job, not for the faint of heart. mary-jane would have to deal with her own co-workers another time — a coup was probably unnecessary as they’d do something downright moronic and get fired right on their own. she’d rather do her job herself anyway, climb the ladder before anyone else stepped foot in the room. ❝ i can work with three, ❞ she murmured as her lips drew into a devious smirk. ❝ i haven’t yet told you about the bar incident have i ? lets just say the three broomsticks needed some new furniture. ❞
“yeah, fortunately for most people, my laziness tends to override my want to murder half the people i talk to on a daily basis, so there’s that.” walden was joking only slightly. he’d hurt people if they asked for it, but most of the time his coworkers were actually useful people. his job just wasn’t as stressful as some of the other jobs that his friends had, which meant that he didn’t stress as much as people like mary-jane did. “i think it’s three. i’m not an expert on wolves. i just know they’re wolves and not werewolves because i heard them the other night.” werewolves would be fun to hunt. walden wasn’t part of the group that did get to hunt them for a living, which was a shame. “no, tell me about it. who was stupid enough to piss you off?” his own features turning into a smirk along with his friend’s similar expression. “i’m getting to hurt someone soon, i think. just waiting on amycus really.”
