Everyone’s done fucked up shit.

She has a point but not everyone has done as fucked up shit as he has. Fucked up shit is an understatement for what he did. What he did was…..well, there’s no word to describe just how fucked up it was.

“I’m trying.” He is, he really is. He’s still going to therapy, still trying to make things right, trying to make amends. They won’t accept his apology and he isn’t asking anyone to, but he is trying to be better. To do better and get better. “I’m not asking for forgiveness, there’s no forgiving what I did, but I’m trying to get better.”

She’d seen the way he was trying, had seen her brother start to change. Matty wasn’t entirely sure if it was real change she was seeing or if he was just putting on a show, but she wants to believe it’s real. It’s been pretty clear that she’d stand by him even when he was fucked up, he didn’t have any reason to fake it with her.

“No, there’s not. What you did was..” A shift, uncomfortable. Personal experience makes her all too aware of how that sort of thing could change a person, all too aware of the way life feels so different. That’s not something that can just be forgiven. “What matters is you’re trying.”

he gives back the hollowest of smiles,   the sad thing is that it’s one of the most genuine ones he’s ever had to share — one that wasn’t coated in all that was UNGODLY & OMINOUS intent.  his family had been on the sidelines,  with only the questions & suspicions to arise when they were under pressure to keep the walker name at bay.  they weren’t particularly known for saying much,   there had been expectations growing up within the walker household.  even with having everything,   bryce could say that he had felt like a bird trapped in some CAGE for most of his adolescent life with high school finally being able to set him free so of course he took over the reigns.   their father who wasn’t honestly around much just let him & matty do what they wanted.  while his sister’s aspirations were more in common with an ordinary teenager,  he sought out other ways to make his life more exciting.  ❛  in some fucked up way,  you always had my back matty,  ❜   his voice is wistful,  appreciative of his sister’s comments which were just another form of deflecting from the prominent scenario at hand but at this point any kind of companionship was a privilege in itself.   ❛ even when shit was happening, though in all retrospect,  i have been a shitty brother and a shitter person at that.  ❜    he shakes his head,  a laugh escaping his thoughts.   ❛ nah,   i’m fucked.  there’s no other way around it. ❜

truthfully,  supporting him was a hard choice.   he was her brother,  she’d do ANYTHING for him,  there was no doubting that.   but one of the darkest moments of her life,  one of her worst memories,  that was something other girls had experienced because of HIM.   it was hard to think about,  hard to accept.   she’d never seen him as someone even close to threatening,  not really,  but maybe she didn’t know him as well as she thought she did.   ❛  ’course i did.   despite what our parents may make you think,  family means having each others backs.  ❜    & while their father had been on bryce’s side as far as the trial,  there were very few other times that he’d cared enough to really be a part of their lives at all.   ❛  EVERYONE’S shitty sometimes,  i don’t think you’re a shitty brother.   or person.   not all the time.  ❜    but clearly he could be sometimes,  even if she’d rather pretend he wasn’t.   ❛  we’re all fucked.  ❜

HURT/COMFORT STARTERS

Status: ACCEPTING

He doesn’t deserve his sister’s kindness. Doesn’t deserve anyone’s kindness. He knows what he’d done is wrong, he knows he’s fucked up, that he needs help - help he is currently getting. At the time, he had enjoyed everything he’d done but now? Now the weight of it is crushing him, the guilt, the agony, but none of his own feelings could compare to the suffering of many girls he’d made suffer - he knows this. Hell, he’s not sure why his sister doesn’t hate him right now.

“There are plenty of people who would disagree with you.” There’s no point in dancing around this subject, dancing around it means not getting better. He has to face things head on, as his therapist has told him. “Hell, maybe I disagree with you. I’ve done….so many fucked up shit.”

She isn’t oblivious to what he’d done. She’d heard the tapes, but really she’d known even before that. She’d known about the clubhouse, had faced that demon herself, but she’d always hoped that he wasn’t a part of that. It hadn’t necessarily been a surprise when she found out she was wrong, but it had certainly been a disappointment.

“Everyone’s done fucked up shit.” But he had definitely done more. “But if you stop doing fucked up shit, if you try to make things better.. Maybe it’d get better.” But that’s not something she can be sure of. She can’t pretend that if she was faced with an apology and a promise to be better that she’d feel any better at all. “I mean, if you don’t do anything then no one’s gonna change their minds about you.”
