Today we’re going to walk you through a website called “Recharging Qi Gong”. This website has a lot of good things going on and I want to spend a little time walking you through all of the different things that make this website a success. --- Additional details available at: http://wallythewebguy.com/blog/wallys-website-walkthroughs-recharging-qi-gong-rechargingqigong-com/ --- Success leaves clues, and when you're looking to use measurable direct response marketing on the Internet you really want to model success. This particular website has been around for a number of years and is owned by a guy named Dr. Wu Dhi. You’ll see he’s using an Adtoons design (from Vince Palko at AdToons.com). These cartoons are are proven to increase response on these hover ads; they did a split test a number of years back and discovered that the optin conversions typically increased when you had a cartoon there. As you look at the hover ad, you’ll see there’s a very benefit driven headline there. The color is bright red, and it really pops out there and is asking you to just simply sign up now and add yourself to the list. As a result, Dr. Wu Dhi has had the privilege to speak to thousands and thousands of people from his email list. And this list grows organically, as he’s just doing a few simple things to grow that email list over a period time. It’s kind of funny too - a lot of times people would say, “That hover ad is just annoying on top of that.” It might be but they work. You really have a choice as a website owner: Do you want to get measurable results and grow your business? Or do you want to feel good and have an ego driven website that doesn’t help you grow your business. It’s really up to you. On Dr. Wu Dhi’s website there are lots of ways to subscribe, to follow, and then as you go down the right hand side of this blog, you’ll see he has all these different products available on the right hand side. Another key to this design, and why it’s so memorable, is you really want to put a lot of personality into your marketing if you can. As you go through his website, he is shown in different spots as a doctor, then shown doing some chi-gong (qi gong), and a couple of different places there he is doing high kicks. Then as you go across the top navigation, you’ll see that the About page really positions him as the expert. The About Page tells his whole story, essentially proving his expertise by showing “here's all the stuff he’s been doing for pretty much forever”. Is this guy the real deal? Yes, he is. Then you come to the product page, and again you’ll find the response blue, and it really calls out to your eyeballs. One of the things that escapes most website owners is people want to read and find and search around and have an adventure. Your web design should support this. Like a lot of these web sites, this is probably not the greatest copy writing job that anybody seen in their entire life, but it's effective and it works. And the reason that it works, is because it’s speaking directly to the pain points of someone who has been very clearly targeted and who the writer very clearly knows. Dr. Wu has done something very smart here, by inviting the visitor to simply enter their name and email address. He is measurably segmenting his list, and then taking people down the funnel. If they opt in here, the prospect will receive a questionnaire and then there is an offline follow-up component to this, because it can be a variable cost to clean rooms or buildings of different sizes. Great stuff here throughout this website. As you continue on you can see lots of social proof. This tells the reader, “Hey, this guy knows what he's talking about.” Again, success leaves clues. When you’re looking to add value to your market and make more sales as a result, there's a lot of good stuff to model that you’re seeing on this website. For instance, everywhere you go on this website you’re going to run into a long-form sales letter. That’s why the site makes money for him. I encourage you to browse around, check his site out, as there’s lots of stuff you can learn from the website. You can see how to build your list, communicate the value you’re offering, send people to a long-form sales letter, and then follow-up, follow-up, follow-up. This is a website for a book written by Steve Krupnick about the economics of pawn shops. There are a lot of golden nuggets if you look at the design and consider what's happening here. For instance, you’ll see that he’s doing a lot of posts over a period of time here. When you’re using your website for the expert positioning game and you’re doing book tours and speaking engagements, you want to make sure that you have some type of place to send people. The same goes for experts who are doing interviews or any other similar strategies where you want to have a platform such as this. With an author’s platform website such as this, a visitor first is curious about what’s in the book. So the design shows the book cover, and gives you an option to order. The page has a spot where you can check up the table of contents if you want, and gives you some ways to not only get the book, but also some other pawnonomics related information. If you do interviews, you want to have a page with your picture, and some quick social proof content proving that you are who you say you are. For instance, if you’re seen in the media you want to have some links for that showing “here’s where else I was seen in the media, etc.” Continuing through this book author’s website, there’s a page with some audio clips, and then of course some contact information. A simple but very powerful, effective website here. On the side of the page you can see the author is building a list and rounding out the expert positioning. That’s what it’s all about, creating simple but effective websites. This type of website has strategically designed calls to action that are clear and measurable.
