the thing that drives me up the wall about “anti/proship” discourse is that it frames grooming as like, primarily an ideological practice in which the threat is that kids will “think adult/minor relationships are morally ok”. which sure maybe that happens idfk but the thing is that grooming is in practical almost entirely divorced from ideology and is so much more about individual exceptionalism… which I think is especially true for fandom-aged demographics! these aren’t kids who are just freshly learning the basics of right and wrong, most of them probably already generally know what pedophilia is and think it’s bad, it’s just that they’re also particularly susceptible to individualized attention that makes them feel uniquely special and mature.

like. I don’t know. it’s just incredibly frustrating to see people continually talking about CSA like it only happens because the perpetrators and victims believe pedophilia is morally permissible rather than because they think that their own personal circumstances exonerate them and make it uniquely acceptable and not harmful.

why is lake superior so dangerous? i cant find anything online that will give my access (not american!)

it's the largest freshwater lake on the planet by surface area, you could lose a couple of smaller countries in there and not even notice. (vs Europe)

on top of that, it's a Northern lake, so the water never really gets warmer than 50 F (10 C) even in the heat of summer, and it's famous for sudden violent storms that destroy ships and buildings alike. this thing has a MASSIVE body count because it's also a major shipping thoroughfare.

I always feel a little weird talking about 'White People' from an indigenous perspective because I am VERY White Passing and aware of the overall privilege that I gain from it (if you don't know to recognize non european features anyway, the moment you do you realize my face is like, not it, which 'fsr' white people almost never do unless they're also mixed but poc often nail it instantly), but luckily it is only a little weird because growing up my indigenous family went above and beyond to make sure I was sat down and it was made clear that the colour of my skin did not mean anythinnggg insofar as me being indigenous.

HOWEVERRRR we did use it to play jokes on racists bc I'd like get talking to people or they'd start talking to me about Tha Evil Browns and I'd let them go on for a bit and then my family would walk over and I'd be like 'SO ANYWAY THIS IS MY DAD/SISTER/GRANDFATHER/ETC' and holy shit the way the blood DRAINED from their faces every time.

that post that's like "what's wrong with joining the army to kill people ain't that the point" always reminds me of how a few years into the iraq war this volunteer american soldier gave an interview to the washington post where he said exactly that and candidly confessed to having already killed someone for fun but being disappointed by how easy and unexciting he felt it was, and a month later he planned and participated in a gang rape and massacre of a little girl and her family. average poor dumb kid from little old usa just trying to afford college

My one take on trans discourse is that if you're cis you should simply not be participating in it. Like it is one thing to call out bigotry when you see it. It is another to be actively participating in the discourse. You can use that cis privilege to do some material good for the trans people in your life/in your community instead of discoursing on tumblr.com.
