Thinking back on it, roleplay really changed around 2015/2016, which is also right about the time we entered the era of ‘gif icons’ and longer replies. Before that groups tended to last for a year, sometimes two, but I feel like we as roleplayers have just grown so impatient. We don’t want to wait around and develop friendships, and ships naturally, we always want to plot these things out right away, which then already cuts out a chunk of time you used to normally put into developing those connections. And if we don’t get what we want right away, we don’t hang around to develop it, people are impatient and just leave and try another place, and then leave there, and trying another place, it’s just a loop.

I know it won’t happen, but we really need to just slow down the connection development and stop pushing for instant connections and instead go back to trying to develop them naturally.

I also feel like we’ve started to bite off more than we can chew with replies which can severely hinder activity in the group. Multi-para, or even just para replies often lead to people putting off doing them because it’s a lot of time and can often be draining. Unlike when it was more like one or two lines which you could do in like twenty-seconds, and then move on.

I really miss the group rp format of like, there always being a bunch of fresh open starters in tags to reply to w/ less plotting and more ‘seeing what happens’ because– idk about y’all but part of the reason I write is that, writing is a way for me to communicate despite my very poor social skills. So, it is much easier to have my character interact with another, than for me to IM their mun and plot. Then, after they have interacted it is suddenly (idk why exactly) much much easier for me to reach out & message the mun directly.

also. i’m begging you, if you’re in a group roleplay, i’m fucking begging you to care more about platonic dynamics. i don’t have it in me to justify this any further and frankly this isn’t something that should be even worth of a justification because platonic dynamics make the whole world go round - they’re just as important, tragic, beautiful, strong, complex, blissful, wholesome, sad, etc as romantic dynamics. if you’re part of a group roleplay it’s your fucking responsibility as a member (and even more as an admin) to value them and give them as much thought and importance as you do to romantic ones. if you only join group roleplays for “shipping” you don’t belong in group roleplays and there’s absolutely NO ROOM for discussion in this.
