Packing Propane
Tumblr media
Since I am still working on the remodeling I don’t want to have to move the RV just to fill the propane. I did some research on external propane tanks and the adaptor and hoses needed to fix my soon to be propane predicament. It’s an easy fix! Here is s link that will help wit the install.

Where to get or fill tanks on the road? The obvious answer is campgrounds. Many propane dealers that sell to residences or commercial buildings will not fill your tanks because it’s not their tanks. Some recommend a generic tank and that may help get it filled someplaces. You can also find some rentable ones at some gas stations. Please keep in mind that you may not find the same dealer in your travels so exchanging it for a full one my be an issue. I did find a solution that I think fits my needs. Home Depot offers an exchange program. You just bring them the empty and they’ll exchange it for a full one. Take the empty to the garden center. They don’t like you bringing them into the store for safety reasons. Lowe’s May have a similar program.

Really?! A composting toilet??
While researching different ways to be able to live as off the grid as I could... I came upon a composting toilet. I was very unsure of them and was extremely freaked out about going to the bathroom in what seemed like a glorified bucket. The smell was the part that was scaring me more than anything. So, I researched more and found that people were fond of the Natures Head Composting Toilet. It has two separate compartments for dry and wet waste. Apparently, the odor of other composting toilets occurs because the wet is mixed with the dry waste. So i took a chance and I decide to go with a composting toilet! Great decision. No smell. If it smells like anything it kind of smells like wood. The smell of wood is caused by what you put in the dry waste area of the toilet. They say you can put peat moss, but i use coconut coir. It helps everything breakdown into compost quicker, I also use biodegradable toilet paper. I have included a picture of the toilet and how the coconut coir looks when you get it. It was the right choice for me and what i want to do. I would have said i understand why people wouldn't want this but now that I have it i must say I think this should be the norm or at least an option that RV companies offer. There really is no smell. Saves water. 100% earth friendly.  How can that be wrong?

Change of plans... Why??? Because life happens... Will be heading off on my first RV journey early November. First stop Asheville NC. Just for a bit.. Then off to Nashville TN.
My First Stop
The big day is Sept 14! When I say big day I mean the day that I will be embarking on my journey. My first stop will be the Farm Aid concert on Sept 16 in Burgettstown PA. I think it’s an awesome way to being an adventure. I will be slowly working my way north east after the concert towards the Niagara Falls area. I’ve never been to Niagara Falls. Has anyone out there been? Any tips or camping locations that anyone out there could recommend? I will then be working my way through Vermont and New Hampshire and then off to Maine. I will then head home to NJ to see friends and family for Thanksgiving before I set off to my next list of destinations.

These are the BEFORE photos of the RV. I purchased a 30 foot class A in the beginning of September 2017. I currently live in Northern NJ so even though I was looking up and down the east coast, I ended up finding mine at Escape RV in NJ. http://escaperv.com  I have been remodeling the RV slowly for about a month and will be on the road approximately the first week in November. I will post the new photos of the finished product when its complete. You can see glimpses of the remodel on my FB and Instagram.

Pre College Vacation with Jake
So the decision to take my son Jake on a precollege road trip through some of New England was an incredibly great choice! We were planning on starting in Niagara Falls. On the day we were due to leave I got a text that turned into heading to The Peachfest Music Festival in Scranton PA. We stayed there for a day and a half. Saw some great music including Govt Mule, Widespread Panic and Joe Bonamassa(2nd time) and many more. We left there and headed directly to Niagara Falls. The Falls and the river were wonderful and awe inspiring. The rest of Niagara honestly I could do without, crowded and tourist filled. We headed to Rochester next. That was a great little city. Pro art and science. Beautiful architecture! Great Museums... I loved the George Eastman Museums. We spent a day and a half there too. We hit the Eastman Museum, The Seneca Zoo, and The Rochester Museum and Science Center. Our next stop was just East of the Massachusetts border. It was just a pit stop for sleep purposes. We continued on the next day into Boston and the last over night stop on our trip. It's was a fantastic time all week and it just makes me want to travel everywhere.
