Fiction 3: The door of destiny
“Hey dude, wanna play basketball after school?” A boy with blonde hair is turning his head to look at Edward.
“Nope I am going to church.” Said Edward.
“Again?”
“Yeah, again.”
“Alright.”
The class is over. Edward packs all the stuff into his backpack and leaves the lecture room. He rides a bike and heads to the church.
When he arrives, he takes out the necklace of cross under his t-shirt.
“God, please, save my dad.” Edward repeats it in a whisper. He then walks to the confess room.

“My boy, tell me what are you here for.”
“I am here for my dad. I feel guilty and helpless, father.” Edward takes a deep breath. “My dad has a family history of liver cirrhosis. And all of my three uncles who watched me grow up had passed away few years ago. Now my dad has a slight cirrhosis of the liver too. I am so afraid that he is going to leave me eventually. I can’t face it…I just can’t…And yesterday, when I passed by his room, I saw something. It made me cry…You know what that is? I saw a couple of cuts on his upper torso…They are the marks of my dad’s gallbladder removal… How can I never notice?? How?? I am now studying so hard at medical school. It’s not only for me having chances to treat the other patients in the world, but also my dad. I hope I can make it that day. I hope he can live long enough to see that. Medical science is so advanced nowadays, something will change right? Father?” Edward asked with a trill.
“My boy, you can’t notice every single detail around the world. It is not your fault. And you are a nice boy. Remember, bad things also happen to good people sometimes. See it as a trick from the god. If there’s anything bad do happen later, as you can imagined, just cry. When you cry out all the bad things, embrace the reality. The lord will bless you.”
“Thank you, father.”
Edward wiped his tears and left the church. It was his last time going to the church. He studied harder at school after this day. Every time he learned something new, he talked about it with his dad John.
Three years had passed, it was the year of him graduating from the medical school.
One day after school, Edward went to hospital to visit his dad as usual. He noticed that his dad is getting weaker than yesterday. Edward held his dad’s hands more tightly.
“Don’t leave me dad…I am graduating this summer. You have to see it…” Edward kissed his dad’s hand.
“I…wish I can…see it.” His dad can barely talk fluently. “Be kind…Embrace what you have…And take care of your mom…and your sister…I love…you…”
“Dad…I love you too.”

“Dad!” Edward shouted, tear was dropping out of his eyes.
A smiled was fixed on his dad’s face. He went to meet with his three brothers in the heaven.

Fiction 2: The door of heart
It was a sunny early morning. The sound of dragging a suitcase is waking up everyone in the town.
“Who’s that?”
“It’s so annoying.”
“Is anyone moving in?” Tons of complaints was popping out of the houses.
It was Jamie. She’s a beautiful girl with long brown hair. She was moving to the town for her dream house.
Jamie just landed and was about to opened up the door of her house.
A stylish grandma walked by and said hi, “Hi sweetheart, are you new here? It’s my first time seeing you.” She smiled.
“Yes, I am Jamie, nice to meet you.”
“Beautiful name Jamie, I am Rosie. Welcome. If you need any help, tell me.” Rosie then handed Jamie a piece of paper with a phone number on it.
“Sure, thank you.” Jamie took it and whispered, “Rosie.” She then got the key out of her pocket and walked into the house.
“Wow. Gorgeous.” She laid down on the ground and closed her eyes. The sun light shone on her face through the cracks in the branches.
Grandma Rosie slowly walked home and whispered, “That girl looks like Emma…” Her eyes welled up with tears.
Two weeks passed away. Jamie never went to meet her neighbors except one time, asking
about where to get a puppy in the town. The rumor was starting to swirl around the town –
Jamie is a hedgehog.
“Jamie is pretty but she never talks.”
“I know right, she looks cold. Like a hedgehog.”
“Did you talk to her?”
“Nope, but I know Rosie did.”
“How?”
“I think Rosie loves her. She told me that Jamie looks exactly the same as her granddaughter.”
“Is she cold too?”
Jamie could barely hear any of those because she rarely left her house. She loves staying home reading books and playing with her puppy yoyo. She also planted lots of flowers in her front yard. They grow fast.

It was three months later. The flowers were much taller. Jamie was lying in her hammock. Suddenly, a phone call shattered the peace.
“Jamie, your mom fainted. Come to see her.”
Jamie was so nervous and booked the flight in the same day. But she quickly realized that how about her puppy and her flower? Jamie was pacing in her front yard.
“Oh yeah, Rosie!” She rushed into her room and looked for Rosie’s phone number.
“Hi Rosie, this is Jamie.”
“Hi Jamie, how are you?” “Good, I mean not good…My mom…she fainted and I need to go and visit her tonight…” “Do you need any help?” “Yes…thank you so much Rosie. Could you help me to look after my flowers and my dog? For 3 days.” Rosie thought for a brief moment and said, “Sure, trust me, Jamie.”
Jamie packed her stuff and left.
After her mom got better, Jamie went back. As she walked home, she heard the neighbors talking.
“Really? Rosie took care of her dog for three days? I thought she is afraid of the dogs. God.”
“She does.”
A pang of acidity rushed up Jamie’s nose. She ran to her house and opened the door.
The wind breezed. Rosie was trying hard playing with her puppy in the front yard. Jamie ran to Rosie and hugged her. They sat together and talked till the night.

“Congratulations Leah, good job!” Noah is starting to buckle up. “Come on, you got this too!”
They finish the other round of climbing and decide to leave.
“Any plan for your vacation next week?” Leah asks while taking off her climbing shoes.

“Of course not, honey. He would be so happy if we made it!”
“Yay! Oh, by the way is the nanny home now, mom?”

A paramedic in the ambulance opens up Noah’s phone, trying to call her family. “Hi are you the mom?”
“Noah? She’s my daughter. Who’s over there? Did anything happen? I heard she hung up…Hi? I am Sophia.” Sophia speaks rapidly, with a tremor in her voice.
“This is a paramedic speaking. I am sorry Noah’s mom. It was a car accident, please start heading to the Pacific hospital.”
“Geez...I will be there in 10.” Sophia quickly grabs the key and rushes to drive. “No…no, no, no, this can’t be true…Noah”
When Sophia arrives at the hospital, Noah is ready for surgery.
“Come on…” Sophia’s body is shaking. She’s restraining her tears and picking up her phone. “Sophia! What happen?” It’s Noah’s dad, Sophia’s husband.
“Andrew…Noah is…doing surgery…She had a car accident…”
“Fuck! Which hospital is she?” “The Pacific Hospital.”
“DuDuDu…”
Andrew rushed to the hospital. He arrives at the front desk. “Excuse me Noah where is Noah? My daughter. She had a car accident. Where is she?”
“Sir she’s at the fifth floor. Turn to your left when you get out of the elevator.”
“Thank you so much”
Andrew runs again.
“Sophia!” “Andrew…I can’t…” Sophia can’t hold her tears anymore. Andrew hugs her tightly. “Come on we get this…I know Noah is the best and she’s gonna make it…”
They hold hands, keep staring at the door with the red light on and pray.
“Come on Noah. You got this…Please…”
