This. Exactly this.
We joke about how WWX should have killed more people actually but the real fucked is thing is that. Yeah. WWX should have killed more people, actually. Because if he HAD — if he had loudly declared that the Wen were under his protection and he would slaughter anyone who harmed them, if he had pushed the cultivation sects out of his territory and dug in his heels and demanded reparations from the Jin, if he had actually been the threat they all lied about him being… more people would have survived, and not just the Wen refugees.
Because the sect leaders would have buckled. They would have bowed. Once they were faced with an opponent who had actual power, they would have all cowered for him the same way they did Jin Guangshan after the war. There would have been skirmishes, for sure — especially with the Nie and Jin — but things never would have progressed to the point of all-out slaughter. The sects never would have felt bold enough to invade the burial mounds.
The whole entire reason things escalated to the point that they did is because WWX obviously wasn’t anything like people were saying, but the thing that gets me is that if he HAD been just a little bit less good, just a little bit less forgiving, just little bit less willing to live and let live — by the time the Juniors were grown… like, WWX and his Wens wouldn’t have a starling reputation or anything, but they’d still be alive, and they’d honestly also probably be doing pretty well for themselves.

This is canon, I won't take no for an answer.
Lan Jingyi's the type of dude to post memes on the neighbourhood groupchat while Jin Ling fights some old lady about the quiet hours, Lan Sizhui's trying to contact the administration to avoid escalating to the police and Zizhen cooks smoked fish in his balcony to spite the old lady that keeps threatening them with the police

hi i just want everyone to know that i will never ever EVER be angry with anyone for not replying to my texts even though you’re visibly online and reblogging/posting. i understand that holding a conversation takes a lot more energy and effort than scrolling and posting and that’s 100% okay. take care of yourself first. the whole idea that you HAVE to reply to someone when you’re online is toxic and makes mentally ill people feel as though they are bad friends just because they can’t always reply within minutes.

Wei Wuxian wraps the sleeping boy in his outer robe, and can't help softening at the image of his little hands grasping the material.
"A-Yuan, you have to be good, okay? Don't get into too much trouble, and be kind to others." Wei Wuxian whispers, leaving a small kiss on the boy's forehead. "You have to eat three meals a day, including vegetables. That's how you'll grow big and strong."
He picks A-Yuan up in his arms, holding him close to his chest "You can be whatever you want to when you grow up. You don't have to be a cultivator, but if you want to be, study hard and get a lot of practice, especially on talisman work, okay?"
He waves a hand and resentful energy comes to guard him and A-Yuan. "You are cute and smart and playful, you'll make a lot of friends for sure, but don't let them take advantage of you. It goes the same for girls. Or boys, whichever you'll like, if you'll like any."
He looks around, eyes glowing red as he walks faster. "I hope you'll get the chance to grow up into the great man I know you can be. And even if, maybe, you won't remember me, I hope you know I'll be proud of you no matter what."
At last, they reach one of the many dead forests of the Burial Mounds. The trees are large, branches gnarly, and resentment howls through them like wind. Wei Wuxian snaps his fingers once and the trees give way.
The third one on the right side, between two thorny bushes - it has a hollow trunk, so they won't find him there. But should anyone venture there - so many rare herbs grow in that cursed patch of land - they'll come across him for sure. They'll see how young and sweet and innocent he looks, and they'll save him.
Wei Wuxian grows misty eyed as he lays the boy down. His shoddy sleeping spell will last for three days. That's all he can do, an imitation of the original spell - that one can last for weeks, but it needs spiritual energy to function. Wei Wuxian has long forsaken his.
He wishes he had more to give A-Yuan. Warmer clothes, a blanket, toys, shelter. A life.
He feels the barriers of the Burial Mounds vibrate in distress.
He leaves a tearful kiss on A-Yuan's forehead and covers him up into his robe. "I love you, A-Yuan."
His way back is blurry, but it's not due to the fog of resentment this time.

"I want Hanguang-Jun to teach me how to swear with my facial expressions only."
"Jingyi, what the hell, it's 6 am. What are you even talking about?"
"So you know how when he hears some bullshit he closes his eyes and takes a deep breath and has a certain look in his eyes after? Senior Wei says that's Hanguang-Jun speak for 'you motherfucker'. I wanna learn how to do that."
"Jingyi you openly say 'you motherfucker' at least like 3 times a day."
"Yeah and I get punished for it! So I want to learn how to do it quietly!"
"That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard..."
"It's ridiculous now, but when I get to tell sect leader Yao he's a bitch in Hanguang-Jun language, you'll envy me!"

Why is this funny? But then again, it's 100% true. No one can it can't be a good solution.
I am quite sure at some point WWX tells LWJ they should find his uncle a girlifriend/boyfriend so that "he will be less grumpy and uptight if he gets some. I mean, it worked on you, didn't it?"
And LWJ can't argue with that cause its true

Jin Zixuan is the type of dude to have spent thousands at a strip club as a rich, single man but the moment he gets into a relationship with Jiang Yanli, even before being engaged or married, vehemently refuses to ever step into one again.
"Dude, since when have you turned into a loser?"
"You lot are the losers. Paying money to see ass and tits cause you either can't get a relationship or can't commit to one. Couldn't be me. Now excuse me, A-Li needs pork for the soup and the supermarket is closing."

💀😈💋 (skull, smile demon, kiss)
"You know what I never did as the Yiling Laozu?" Wei Ying asks as he rests on Lan Zhan's chest, basking into the afterglow of their everyday activities. The jingshi is quiet now, moonlight filtering through the window alongside a fragrance of freshly bloomed magnolias.
"Hm?"
"I didn't have a skull to evilly talk to."
Wei Ying hears Lan Zhan breathe out a small laugh. "Wei Ying is not evil. Never has been."
"It's not about that, Lan Zhan, it's about the aesthetic! The vibes, if you will."
Lan Zhan makes a confused sound. Wei Ying shrugs. "I don't know what that means either, I just heard Jingyi say it." He climbs up Lan Zhan more comfortably, until he's in a very familiar position that has Lan Zhan's ears dust red, and continues. "Can you imagine me, in all black, scary and evil with resentful energy all around me, holding a skull and talking to it as I kill my enemies? Asking it how I should torture them next?"
Lan Zhan can imagine it, very vividly. It's been one of his fantasies for a long time.
"And just to make things even more fun, after I exchange torture ideas with my skull, I leave a little kiss on its forehead as thanks! Can you imagine that?"
He feels... something poking him in response.
"Lan Zhan, you pervert!" He pretends to chide. ''I am trying to be scary here! You should not be finding this erotic!''
Lan Zhan flips his husband over instead of responding and pins his hands above his head. ''Everything you do is erotic.''
He kisses Wei Ying, hard and hungry, before he can say anything.

🌠💞🌶️
Night has fallen long before they've made it close to the next town over, so Wei Ying and Lan Zhan set up camp in a small clearing deep into the woods they've been exploring for the past few hours. The spiritual activity around abounds and, naturally, Wei Ying became curious about it, which is why their plans to spend the night in a cozy inn have been delayed for a night under the stars instead.
Wei Ying lays down on his outer robe and invites his husband over with a pat of his hand on the soft grass. Lan Zhan places his own robe down before enveloping Wei Ying in his arms. They sit in silence for a while, sharing warmth, watching the first stars light up the night sky.
"You know, I haven't stargazed since I lived in the Burial Mounds."
Lan Zhan's hold on him tightens a little.
"It wasn't often. There were clouds most of the time, or a thick fog that hid even the sun and moon for days on end."
A smile. "But sometimes, it cleared up. I'd watch the stars for hours, wondering if it would be the last time I'd get to do it. I was so grateful whenever I got to do it next time. I even taught A-Yuan the constellations!"
Lan Zhan smiles, leaves a kiss on Wei Ying's forehead. "Mn. He still remembered them when I took him in. He does even now."
Silence falls between them again. Wei Ying admires the plethora of stars above, wonder and a certain type of grief in his eyes that Lan Zhan couldn't even hope to ever understand.
"There were no stars when I died." Wei Ying says, his voice small, "I remember I was staring up at the sky, I knew it was supposed to be nighttime... but I couldn't see them. I was so disappointed..."
Lan Zhan cups the side of his face and pulls him into a soft, slow kiss. This isn't something he knows how to respond to, so he tries to show Wei Ying he is there and loves him enormously instead. Wei Ying has told him before that's all he needs to do, and Lan Zhan is glad to do it.
When they finally separate, Wei Ying seems to feel a lot better. His eyes are no longer sad, and his lips are a healthy shade of red. Lan Zhan wants to make them even redder.
"Anyway, enough of me being depressing. Say, Lan Zhan, what would you wish for if you saw a shooting star right now?"
Lan Zhan kisses Wei Ying again, more forcefully this time. "You", comes the breathless answer.
"That's really hot, don't get me wrong, but now I feel bad." Wei Ying laughs. "Because personally I'd wish for some chilli."
Laughter escapes Lan Zhan before he knows it.
