Zutara Week 2022 Day 1: Tradition

Unfortunately this is the only prompt I was able to get done this year. I really wish I had been able to do them all (it’s tragic because I even have some roughs for mini animatics for almost every day ToT who knows maybe I’ll finish them one of these days), but alas I ran out of time and energy just getting off of a project and being in my 9th month of pregnancy. But hey wouldn’t it be fun if my baby was born during this year’s Zutara Week. lol Anywho, just a very short little mini-animatic for this prompt.

Dedicated to the ZDAS, you all are still very much in my thoughts. n.n

Link to the AO3 collection So, when @fictionissocialinquiry laid out this challenge, it was mainly for writers; but she included some extra prompts therein, and one was a line from Hozier’s “Shrike”.

I couldn’t whisper when you needed it shouted This led me to listen to “Shrike” on repeat while I feverishly started doodling the thumbnails for the animatic I got in my head (so I hope that some of that emotion from Hozier’s amazing song comes through in the final board, ‘cause I listened to it. A. Lot.). While I think it’s a bit easier for drawings to express “I love you” without any words needed at all. I wanted to try and approach the task by thinking of ways one can confess that they love someone through acts of service and tenderness versus super obvious displays of love, I guess. It came out with a sort of courtly love-ish vibe that I really ended up liking. (Though I suppose reciprocation makes it not courtly love ANYWHO…)

I’m in an Ambassador Katara/Fire Lord Zuko state of mind! I just love any love story with them in these roles. There are so many different ways to play with the set up of them as Ambassador and Fire Lord. In this one, I kind of picture that they haven’t gotten together yet (this is divergent from whatever I did in the Reunion animatics; this is it’s own thing). Perhaps they are on the precipice of realizing they want to be together… I don’t know; it’s open to interpretation. XD but what I hope I portrayed clearly is how one can show that they love another. u.u

My take on Saruto Uzamaki-Uchiha. BoruSara kid, due in many many years to come.

Though I love the Uzamaki’s, Uchiha’s, and Nara’s incredibly strong genetic pool… I’m gonna have to give the Uchihas a W for the strongest genes (90%). I mean, just look at their entire Clan, looking stunningly emo for no reason. 😌🖤

Yeah, and I’d do it again. I re-read your stories like its the first time, the bar for relationships is too high now. 😭

Itachi and Shisui are that iconic duo that says it as it is and will take smack from absolutely no one. I love that and I can’t wait to see what they stir up in the story.

I don’t wantu sound desperate but I’d absolutely take anything you have, edited or not. Just dump them on me I’m ready and I’m telling you right now they’re not bad. Remember we are our own biggest critic and what you consider your “meh” work is a fine piece of art to me. And at this point I’d love to see anything you have on this AU.

When I first read the description to the AU, I was like okay this AU is kinda overused and I can’t see how this would work with the Naruto-verse. But you really did that and made it work in the best way possible. Not only that, but it really is addictive. The audacity.

I always wonder about the writer when ready fics, especially during trying times like these. So I am satisfied to know you’re alive out there and kicking.

You write it so perfectly and I keep making my own scenarios on this AU in my head but nothing comes close to your writing - and I can’t stop thinking about what a scenario with the society would be like, or a close call with them and how BoruSara would deal with it. Facing their greatest threat and re-analyzing the consequences of their actions. Please, for the love of absolutely anything, can you offer any insight or anything regarding this bc I can’t take it anymore. Your work is just *chef kiss* and I’d go to war for this borusara AU.

I'm so glad you like DYF! Tbh, it's one of my favorite AUs, and I have a LOT of lore stored in my head about it. Hahaha! There's also so many possibilities and I really haven't decided on how to move forward with the main plot, which is why I like to write small things within the AU instead.

I would love to hear what you thought of the AU! Do write to me again. :)

I'll give you a little spoiler.

In my original outline, The Society sends Itachi and Shisui to find Sasuke. Their orders are to take him home and kill anyone who tries to stop them. They're surprised that he has taken a wife and has a child with her. It's disgraceful for their clan to marry a turned vampire, but Shisui and Itachi don't care much about it.

When they meet Sarada, they instantly take a liking to her, however, they warn Sasuke about how The Society will not be pleased to know about her existence. They will either kill her or take her back to be with the others. If they find out that she and Boruto, and Sasuke and Naruto are together, The Society will feel threatened by their power.

How I planned to write DYF was in this order: 1. BoruSara's story, how they met and 'lived happily ever after'

2. SasuSaku's story, how they met and will end with them coming to meet Naruto's pack again with Sarada as a child. I actually wrote about their first encounter already, albeit in a more condensed version: [HERE]

3. The Society, the wolves' purging, and why Sasuke decided to leave them.

Yes, I wanted to write it backward because I'm crazy like that lol.

Thanks for your interest, darling. It was fun to revisit my ideas and plot for DYF. :) Believe me when I say I think about it often. I just really haven't been in the right headspace to write anything these days. I've been far too busy. :(

I really thought I had read it all until I tapped the link! I was also today years old when I realized you’re ibloo… you’re the reason why I sleep so late at night saying “just one more chapter”!!!

I really do love and appreciate your work, so thank you for taking the time to respond. I’ve officially read everything, that I know of at least. Thanks so much for that info regarding the society. I’m ecstatic that Itachi and Shisui are involved and I can now make up some of my own theories until then.

As much as I love this AU and can’t wait to read more. I do understand this takes time and I don’t mean this as any pressure. Health and self care always comes first and as an artist, I am very familiar with art block and, well, life. So thank you so much for this!

Part 2 of my bring your kid to work day. One year since Naruto made this a national day, and Hinata still can’t get over how excited Boruto gets the day before. But not as excited as both of them coming back to show them the dance they made up together. Whos taking who to work again??
