as a warrior who has trained extensively in reading body language and tone, artemis had a bit of a head start on most others when it came to reading jason's turbulent emotions. he is a deeply troubled soul from a varying plethora of reasons, the main and biggest one being his death and resurrection.

artemis hadn't known him back then, before it all, the only 'version' of jason she was familiar with was this feral, angry, traumatized man who claimed to formerly be a sidekick to one of the best. this did not bother her, for this is the only way she's known him, and she cannot judge because well, there is a reason they get along so well and it is that they are both outcasts.

"i may not," she begins, eyeing the mostly empty glass bottle near the vigilante with a slight scowl on her face, "but that does not mean that i am willing to sit by and watch you wallow in your anguish." she moves slowly, so that in his inebriated state he can read her movements and her intentions and she sits next to him, reaching for the bottle. "we don't have to talk about it, jason, but if you think i'm going to leave you alone then you're sadly mistaken." she speaks plainly, examining the brownish liquid within the bottle before she throws caution to the wind and takes a drink from it. she doesn't show her disgust at the taste, but she does not go back for another drink. "you are.. one of the most insufferable people i've met, but you are also one of the strongest and most resilient and i have complete and utter faith that you will be okay, perhaps not now, nor for a few years, but you will get through this and i, for whatever it is worth, will continue to be here for you should you need it."

rose's words elicited a small but genuine laugh from the amazon, no truer words had been spoken in her experience and it was strangely comforting to know that she was not the only person on the planet with a similar mindset.

in a way, she was glad that he had come to her with this specific concern as she was in agreement, it was simply too easy. it wasn't a complaint, their work had saved the lives of innocent children but when it was all over, said and done, there wasn't a feeling of satisfaction at a job well done, something in the back of her mind refused to allow her to fully ease herself.

she had her suspicions, but they needed proper investigation first. "that source of yours," she began, a light frown on her face as she looked at an empty spot on her wall. "i can't quite say i'm a fan of just how much information they had and how happy they were to share." she continued, pulling her gaze away to look at jason. BEFORE HE CALLED TO HER,   before he woke her from needed sleep jason had stood at the threshold and watched.   for what felt like an eternity did he war with himself,   wont to let her alone and too,   to seek her council while his mind raced.   now that she   was   awake,   a second war raged within him.   to confess his grievances,   or keep them when he has bothered her enough.   artemis is easy to talk to.   she doesn’t tell him what he wants to hear,   doesn’t feed him dishonest bullshit just to make him feel better.   

artemis invites him in and only then does he cross the threshold.   he joins her at her bed,   sitting on its edge,   then throwing himself upon it as if it were his own.   tea.   “don’t,”   he says without authority,   pacific,   his eyes that trawl the ceiling and avoid artemis’s knowing gaze.   “i mean,   don’t bother making any for me.”   arms tuck against his chest.   his brow is heavy.   “i’m still pissed about those lowlives we caught trafficking kids.   can’t sleep.   it feels like i’m   missing   something.”
