“  I  can  sense  some  weird…tension  thing  going  on,  ”  he  doesn’t  look  up  yet  but  instead,  keeps  working.  he’s  been  doing  that  a  lot  lately:  burying  himself  so  deep  in  anything  he  can  think  to  work  on,  just  to  avoid  some  crappy  ted  talk  about  how  life  goes  on  and  yada…yada.  truthfully  he  wasn’t  sure  if  he’d  ever  be  ready  to  hear  it  (  what  could  someone  say  about  his  death  ).  “ definitely  busy  and  you’re  ruining  the  whole  vibe  BUT  I  can  recommend  a  great  masseuse,  ”  clicking  his  tongue  as  he  thinks  about  it.  “  —  well,  that’s  if  they’ve  not  packed  up  shop  —  purple  jabba  did  do  quite  the  number  on  a  couple  of  decent  businesses.  ”

when diana asked to meet with him, kyle hadn’t had any idea what to think. being specially recruited by wonder woman herself hadn’t been on his list of expectations, but honestly it was a short list to begin with. it wasn’t the most surprising thing, diana was typically all-business with him anyway, but it still struck him off guard.

while they’d made a good team, kyle had always felt like he wasn’t her preferred lantern. not that he really thought he was anyone’s preferred anything, but somehow it was more difficult coming from former teammates. besides, no matter how much he grew into his role, he still felt like a rookie by comparison to the rest of them. and there couldn’t be much room for rookies among a newly-established justice league. it was better for him to stay in his own league with heroes considered his level.

“i get what you mean, diana,” he says, sheepishly rubbing at the back of his neck. it isn’t easy to tell the powerful amazonian no, especially when she was making such an earnest request. if she’s going as far as to flatter him, it’s going to be more difficult to squirm out of this than he’s prepared to handle. “it seems weird to be here without some form of the justice league. but i don’t really know if i’m the guy you need for your starting lineup. i’m with sword right now, and i’m still trying to find my footing here. i just… think you need a stronger powerhouse.”

                   𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠    𝐰𝐚𝐬    𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫    𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐲    ,    but    that    never    stopped    diana    from    thinking    otherwise.    at    times    her    stubbornness    outweighed    her    common    sense.    diana    huffed    a    breath    ,    never    good    at    a    poker    face    her    disappointment    is    visible    on    her    expression.    which    is    now    much    more    solemn    than    before.    diana    understands    kyle’s    sentiment    who    ,    despite    all    his    talent    must    live    in    the    shadow    of    his    mentors.    but    diana    wasn’t    the    type    or    relied    on    a    name    to    achieve    her    visions.    ❛❛    who    says    we    can’t    have    both    of    you    on    the    league    ?    ❜❜    it    might’ve    been    a    foolish    request    but    her    knowledge    of    the    lanterns    wasn’t    fluent.     ❛❛    two    is    better    than    one    right    ?    i    saw    that    on    a    commercial    once.    ❜❜    it    wasn’t    the    time    for    jokes    but    easing    the    vibe    around    them    was    crucial    for    diana.    she    wanted    kyle    to    feel    comfortable    around    her.    ❛❛    can    i    be    honest    ?    i    haven’t    even    spoken    to    hal.    i’m    not    even    sure    he’s    here.    ❜❜    she    leaned    in    her    chair.    it    wasn’t    her    intention    to    have    the    helplessness    in    her    tone    peak    through    but    even    her    hope    was    running    thin.    kyle    wasn’t    a    last    ditch    effort    but    a    glimmer    of    hope    that    her    decision    to    reform    the    league    in    this    world    would    be    a    good    one.     ❛❛    kyle    ,    i’m    going    to    assume    you’re    being    humble    because    i’ve    seen    you    in    action.    you’re    phenomenal    !    ❜❜    her    compliment    is    genuine.         ❛❛    i    don’t    know    what    i    can    do    or    say    to    change    your    mind    .    .    .    just    know    that    the    offer    is    still    there.    ❜❜    shortly    after    an    idea    popped    into    the    amazonian’s    mind.    she    snapped    her    fingers    ,     ❛❛    you    said    you’re    apart    of    sword    ,    right    ?    ❜❜    she    asked    leaning    closer    in    kyle’s    direction.     ❛❛    on    a    scale    of    one    to    ten    ,    how    comfortable    are    you    stealing    information    ?    ❜❜

it had been sometime since clark seen either diana or bruce. when he and diana had to agreed to meet up, to say he was ecstatic would be less than what he felt. clark had made many friends as years as clark and superman went on, but those two had been there since the beginning. the three were thought of as the founding members of the league. a group that would always hold a special place in clark’s heart no matter how much time had passed. when he seen her, it had seemed like little to no time had passed. the demi goddess was much like the kryptonian in the way that he aged. while they may have both looked younger than they appeared, clark knew that they had both been through events that had probably made them feel much older. clark laughed as he got there more than he had expected at times. “well isn’t it nice to see you to diana,” he smiled, “i see we both have found a way to reunite even on this new world we call home.”

                 𝐢𝐭’𝐬    𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐭    𝐭𝐨    𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐩    towards    the    hero.    diana    extended    her    arms    outward    to    invite    clark    into    a    warm    embrace.    it    was    only    him    who    was    able    to    withstand    the    full    ,    strength    of    her    iconic    bear    hugs.    ❛❛    oh    ,    i    bet    it’s    a    pleasure    to    see    me    again    after    all    this    time    !    ❜❜    she    exclaimed    with    a    teasing    grin    growing    on    her    features.    even    after    all    this    time    ,    diana    carried    her    childlike    demeanor.    ❛❛    of    course    you’ve    made    the    most    of    the    situation    we’re    all    in    !    ❜❜    he    compliant    his    exaggerated.    wherever    clark    went    ,    home    followed.    he    just    had    that    vibe    to    him.    ❛❛    sadly    ,    i    can’t    call    this    place    home    .    .    .    ‘cause    that’ll    just    prevent    us    from    getting    out    of    here.    i    mean    ,    no    offense.    but    have    you    seen    the    avengers    ?    they    wouldn’t    know    style    if    it    hit    ‘em    across ��  the    head    !    ❜❜

              𝐭𝐡𝐞    𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞    𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝    𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡    diana    who    unfortunately    could    relate    to    it.    however    the    demi    goddess    had    gone    the    extra    mile    to    ensure    her    grudges    would    be    dealt    with    ,    even    if    it    meant    using    her    strengths    to    it’s    full    extent.    even    now    it    was    difficult    for    understand    that    not    everyone    shared    that    same    strength.    diana    shook    her    head    ,     ❛❛    eh    ,    they’ll    get    over    it.    ❜❜    she    casually    responded.     ❛❛    besides.    i    think    they’d    much    rather    deal    with    vehicle    damage    instead    of    vehicular    manslaughter.    gods    ,    people    in    this    city    really    don’t    know    how    to    control    these    machines.    ❜❜    she    rolled    her    eyes    before    crossing    her    arms    over    her    chest.    ❛❛    of    course    i’m    strong    ,    i’m    a    girl    !    ❜❜    she    explained    with    her    usual    ,    charming    cheer.    ❛❛    are    you    sure    you’re  alright    ?    ❜❜

natasha  is  not  usually  easily  charmed  but  there’s  something  about  diana’s  demeanor  that  she  finds  captivating  :  effervescent  ,  really  .  especially  when  she  inquires  as   if  nat  knows  spider-man  .  “  we’ve  had  a  few  run-ins  ,  “  she  allows  before  she’s  biting  back  a  laugh  .  “  he’s  definitely  not  made  of  spiders  .  where’d  you  read  that  ?  “  if  it  was  in  the  bugle  ,  she  wouldn’t  have  been  surprised  .  natasha  grins  ,  giving  her  a  brief  nod  .  “  perfect  ,  “  the  woman  compliments  before  she’s  stepping  up  to  the  window  and  tapping  on  it  .  after  a  brief  conversation  with  the  driver  and  after  she’d  handed  over  her  card  ,  they  depart  :  leaving  the  pair  standing  there  .  “  i’m  natasha  ,  “  nat  says  ,  turning  to  hold  out  her  hand  .  “  who’s  my  newest  partner  in  crime  ?  “ 

               𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭    𝐜𝐚𝐧    𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐚    𝐬𝐚𝐲    ?    tabloids    are    her    guilty    pleasure    regardless    of    what    universe    she    was    in    .    .    .    the    “who    is    the    justice    league    dating!”    titles    never    failed    to    reel    her    in.    in    response    diana    nodded    ,    ❛❛    oh    that’s    good.    i’d    actually    like    to    meet    him    sometime    then.    ❜❜    she    added    with    a    quirk    of    her    brow.    watching    as    the    other    dealt    with    her    mess    ,    diana    was    in    awe    with    her    ability    to    diffuse    the    situation    considering    the    demi    goddess    never    failed    to    make    things    worse.    upon    reuniting    with    her    again    ,    diana    smiled.    ❛❛    it’s    nice    to    meet    you    natasha    !    ❜❜    she    greeted.    the    name    sounded    familiar    considering    she’d    been    working    around    shield.    she    decided    to    leave    that    at    the    door    ,    far    more    interested    in    making    a    friend    than    an    ally.    diana    shook    her    hand    in    return.    ❛❛    i’m    diana.    ❜❜

              𝐭𝐡𝐞    𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩    𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐚    𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝    with    clark    was    nothing    short    of    special.    the    demi    goddess    held    him    with    high    regard    ,    not    only    as    a    hero    but    as    a    friend.    diana    considered    clark    to    be    someone    she    could    depend    and    rely    on    both    in    and    out    of    the    battlefield     so    upon    reuniting    with    him    in    this    new    world    her    uncertainty    about    reestablishing    the    league    diminished.    she    looked    at    clark    in    awe    ,    much    like    bruce    he’d    gotten    older    since    she’d    seen    him    last.    while    the    kryptonian    dna    slowed    the    process    in    comparison    to    a    human    ,    the    aura    of    a    husband    and    father    aging    alongside    his    growing    family    was    present.    diana    felt    nothing    but    happiness    for    her    teammates    who    managed    to    make    time    for    their    lives    outside    of    their    hero    duties    but    ,    even    she    was    green    with    envy.    she    set    aside    the    sentiment    to    greet    clark    graciously.    ❛❛    well    ,    well    why    isn’t    mister    lane.    ❜❜

“sure! you��re not from around here, are you?” the way the woman carried herself was different from the rest of the city folk, and not to mention her superhuman strength that was somewhat of a give away that she wasn’t a normal citizen like herself. whoever she was, betty decided that the world needed more people like her - kind, heroic and graceful. “and here we are,” she announced as she opened the door for the woman, “order anything you like. the least i can do is treat you to some cake and a milkshake.”

                𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐚    𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐝    𝐭𝐨    𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩    her    tiger    mom    energy    at    the    door.    with    donna    suddenly    back    in    her    life    ,    she    was    thankful    for    the    gods    for    her    gift    but    much    more    .    .    .    cautious.    the    concern    she    had    for    her    sisters    closely    followed    diana.    even    with    their    godly    abilities    ,    she    couldn’t    allow    herself    the    luxury    of    letting    their    safety    slip    from    her    mind.    diana    held    donna    close    to    her    side    as    the    two    of    them    strutted    down    the    avenue    ,    heads    turning    while    doing    so    because    let’s    face    it    ---    they    were    gorgeous.    diana    clicked    her    tongue.    ❛❛    it’s    okay.    ❜❜    she    admitted    with    a    bit    of    a    frown.    ❛❛    they’re    very    good    at    hiding    information.    and    there’s    only    sooooo    much    i    can    do    to    convince    them    to    show    me    the    information    in    question.    ❜❜    diana    shrugged.    ❛❛    maybe    i    should    show    up    to    work    one    day    suited    ,    with    the    lasso.    it’d    be    much    faster.    ❜❜
