I had assumed most like me would prefer to stay away from others doomed to toil on for eternity. It seems you search for them . ” He pauses , hums , and shrugs. “ Or perhaps I read too much into our encounters. Who is to say ?? Regardless , I suppose you are not bad company. So far, anyways.           “ This is the oldest one in my possession , ” Ashley remarked gently , his fingers running over the well preserved steel of the main-gauche. It was one of the few weapons he kept throughout the years , mostly because it was easy to keep with his admittedly small amount of personal items during periods of change and movement. “ It dates back to the 17th century. Evidently , it was once used by someone in my family lineage. ” He turned the blade over , placing his thumb underneath the engraved ‘ Gérard de Beaufou ’ in fine script. “ I don’t know much beyond the name , though. You’re welcome to hold it if it interests you. ”

            School had changed so much since the last time he spent money on education , but his time to be in one place for long had ended and so he kept moving , and he needed to lay low before returning to France. There was no better way to spend down time than to learn. And so he sat in class , tuned in as much as he could , stray papers filled with notes and annotations , until the professor exited the room. 

            Ashley glanced over at the seat next to him , eyes lingering on the papers laying on the desk. His gaze shifted , fixating on the person in front of said papers. A tight smile , only displaying a small amount of nervousness. “ I uh -- excuse me , your hand writing is nice. Pleasant to look at. The letters have a nice , er ,  curve , yes. ” A pause. “ Do you physically write often ?? I know many people use digital input to take notes these days. I can never remember where the keys are , though , so I usually write by hand. ”
