Character(s): Kade, Kitty

Summary: Kitty gives Kade scritches on his head.

He doesn't know when it started, but it became his habit to always keep an arm over Kitty. Maybe this made it easier to keep Kitty safe, or maybe it was a way to satisfy his need for closeness. Kade kept his arm around Kitty's waist.

He laid in bed while Kitty sat beside him, his attention claimed by the book in his lap.

His back was against Kade's body, leaning back into the one lying next to him. Kade arm rested over his waist like a belt, keeping him tethered to this reality while his mind wandered to the next. Kitty became accustomed to the weight of Kade's limb.

"Why do you let me do it," Kade asked quietly, feeling Kitty's stomach rise and fall. Slow. Rhythmic. Just like everything about him. A symphony of deliberate steps.

"Do what?" Kitty flipped the page.

"This," he tightened his hold momentarily, then let his arm fall back in its spot. Kade rolled over, hoping to get a closer look at the other's expression from his low angle view. The ceiling light lit a halo behind the one he worshipped.

"Why wouldn't I?"

"I don't know," Kade mumbled. "You don't do it with others..."

"Nobody is stupid enough to touch me."

"Am I stupid?" Kade laughed softly, eyes shut from amusement.

Kitty stole a glance in his direction, and repositioned himself for a better look at the taller one.

The light was dim in the bedroom, but Kade kept the offer on the table to brighten the place if it suited Kitty's needs. Rugs for Kitty's feet, lights for Kitty's eyes. Things he didn't care for filled the room for Kitty's sake, even if Kitty never asked for them.

Kitty was always respectful in Kade's personal spaces. But as he's told him before, anything Kitty touches is for him to keep. Him included.

Kitty's silhouette washed over him. The dimples from Kade's smile made a little cone-shaped shadow on his spotless complexion. Childish, Kitty noted, and perfect. He placed a hand on Kade's cheek. His sharp nail poked the indent of his dimple in a contemplative silence.

"I let you be so close because you are of no threat to me." It was a lie Kitty told others knowing he slept in the jaws of a tiger. Yet, those fangs have never grazed him. He's always laid in blood but never his own. Kade has always been gentle to him. Kitty wondered why.

"Of course not," Kade curled his body around his superior. "Who would ever cross you." He smiled, eyes closing in a quiet bliss.

Kade could feel his hair stand on ends every time Kitty ran his sharpened nails across his flesh. He reveled in the rattling of fingernails against skull, raking his skin in ripples. The sensation traveled down his spinal cord, making his toes wiggle in bliss.

Kitty untangled his fair locks into rows, and watched them fall back into place like feathers on a bird.

"Stupid," Kitty noted Kade's expression, and continued to idly scratch his head as if he was taming a wild cat.

"Only for you," he replied, wishing to be closer. Kade speculated if Kitty stood with a knife facing outward, he would still lean in, no matter the cost.

"Kitty," he grinned, "Kitty, Kitty." Saying his name made Kade so happy. Only he got to call him Kitty. "Kitty," he repeated once more.

"Don't call my name like you're beckoning a stray," Kitty pinched Kade's cheek. He left a red mark on his face when he let go. So fragile, Kitty thinks, for someone immortal.

"It's a prayer," he opened his eyes, lamenting the moment that did not last. "Like when you chant the names of bodhisattva."

"What am I?" Kitty returned to his reading. "Your merciful god?"

"My only god," Kade corrected. "And everyone else's, in due time." He'll make sure of it.
