Texts: Cameron & Warren
@cameronslaw
Warren: I'm pretty sure this isn't my business and maybe I was too quick to judge widow I warned you about my brother and his lack of feelings but, aren't you dating the nephilim?
Cam: oh hi warren!
Cam: I'm not sure I understand the question
Cam: but yes, I am dating Trevor
Cam: why do you ask?
Warren: cause I saw you earlier making out with my brother in an alley
Warren: I thought I should warn you about Freddie cause you might get hurt around him but now I'm thinking maybe more people might get hurt and it might not be because of him
Cam: what
Cam: I'm sorry, I'm not following
Cam: what do you mean by that?
Warren: Cameron, Freddie is dangerous. Very dangerous. More than me. Probably as dangerous as Gilmore
Warren: so maybe it is not such a great idea to keep doing whatever you're doing with him while you're dating someone else
Cam: but he knows about it
Cam: and it's not like he'd be jealous
Cam: since we have a no-feelings thing
Cam: so it's fine
Cam: you don't have to worry
Warren: Cameron, you're not dumb. I don't do business with dumb people and I'm pretty sure I'm doing business with you.
Warren: just because I said my brother couldn't feel things the same as you do, didn't mean he doesn't feel things at all
Warren: we tend to lean on the negative feelings so maybe he won't declare his love for you with roses and ask you to choose him, but it can definitely get ugly if he feels like he needs to compete for your attention
Cam: he told me himself I shouldn't expect love from him, Warren
Cam: I'm not stupid, Freddie just always says what he means
Cam: so he means it
Cam: and we have a good communication system
Cam: so if me dating Trevor bothered him, he'd tell me
Cam: besides, he knows he doesn't have to compete for my attention, they both do
Cam: thank you for caring but you really don't have to worry!
Warren: did you tell him that you're dating Trevor?
Cam: he knows we're going out for a while now
Warren: going out, fucking and dating are three different things
Cam: we have named it dating just a few days ago
Cam: the subject of the title change haven't come up
Warren: one thing about Freddie is that he loves rules. I'm sure you've noticed
Warren: he has very strong morals and I'm sure he's not gonna want to keep messing around with you if/when he finds out you're in a relationship
Cam: it's not a monogamous relationship
Warren: it's not me who you should be explaining it to
Cam: but he knows that!
Cam: you're the one questioning it
Warren: does he know things change with Trevor?
Warren: all in saying is that he's not gonna take good to find there are things you're not telling him
Warren: and trust me, no one, absolutely no one wants to have an upset Freddie around
Cam: it's not like I'm hiding from him
Cam: I just figured it'd be awkward to bring that up out of nowhere without the subject coming up
Cam: that it'd be disrespectful
Cam: you sound like you're afraid of him
Warren: of course I am! Everyone should be!
Warren: why do you think I didn't want him around?
Warren: he and Pestilence have the power to kill everyone in town with one tantrum and without breaking a sweat
Warren: and fine! I'm might not kill me and just really damage my vessel but there are people here who I really care about
Cam: he's not as emotionally immature as you think, he doesn't throw tantrums
Cam: he just gets confused sometimes, but things get solved talking
Cam: but I'm sure you know that
Cam: if it makes you feel better, I'll tell him about dating Trevor
Cam: but since we're giving unsolicited advice, I think you should talk to your brother too, you know?
Cam: feeling things is new to him, you're the only one of the four who could help him in that transition
Cam: but who am I to say anything anyway, right?
Warren: so just because you're fucking him you think you know him?
Warren: are you sure it's me who doesn't want to talk? Are you really so sure it's me who avoids talking about feelings?
Warren: I offered him a job where he needs to interact with humans in need so he could ignite his humanity
Warren: I offered him a place to stay. A place for his horse. A seat in my table
Warren: so maybe think again before trying to call me out on not being a better brother
Cam: I'm not saying you're a bad brother, I'm saying sometimes it's good to put names to things
Cam: and you're the only person who could help him do that safely, I'm assuming
Cam: but again, that's just us trading unsolicited advice, right?
Cam: anyway, don't worry about me talking about feelings with Freddie, we did already and he was blatant with his opinion on those not interfering with our kind of friendship
Cam: so they won't
Cam: but still, just to set your mind at ease, I'll tell him about me and Trevor
Cam: you don't deserve to fear for your loved ones, especially not because of me
Warren: the thing is that Freddie is unstable with you or without you go in the picture
Warren: the thing is that you have the potential to help him become more stable, but I'm not sure if that's gonna work. That's why I'm asking you to be careful
Warren: last time I said this was cause I was worried he might hurt you but now I'm worry that if you hurt him we're all fucked
Cam: I'd love to help him, but I can only do as much as he lets me
Cam: I'd never intend on hurting him
Cam: and part of me keeps reminding me that to be hurt he'd have to have feelings in the first place, which he told me time and time again he doesn't
Cam: not that I believe it, anyway
Cam: but yes, I understand what you mean
Cam: so be assured the city is safe if I have any say in it
Warren: He let you meet his horse so if you still believe he feels nothing then you're really dumb and again, I know you're not
Warren: I'm not sure you have that much power honestly
Cameron
Cam: it's easier to tell myself he doesn't
Cam: I don't have to, as long as he believes that I do
Cam: thanks for the heads-up tho
Warren: denial has never made it better when it comes to feeling. Trust me, I've been there and the one I love had to get hurt for both of us to get it
Warren: anytime. Just be careful
Cam: well I've been hurt already, it wasn't enough to awake anything in him
Cam: so that doesn't seem promising
Cam: I'll be
Warren: ok. I was wrong. You're not dumb, you're stupid
Warren: he killed a vampire. And not just any vampire. It was one who had been sired by one of the big clans in town
Warren: he warned me about it, so I didn't let it become a war
Warren: he fucking put a price on the head of any vampire who gets near you or your brother
Warren: he didn't even fucking avenged me when they killed my vessel in the battlefield!
Cam: oh
Cam: I didn't know that
Cam: I mean, I knew he killed the guy and warned people but
Cam: I don't know what to say
Cam: I keep trying to logic my way out of it and say I'm just seeing things when there aren't any but
Cam: he says one thing and his actions say another
Cam: I'm not stupid, I just don't know what to believe
Warren: a warrior advice? Always trust the actions. Words are deceiving
Warren: you use words to deceive yourself but I'm sure you're actions say things clearer
Cam: yet Freddie demands I always use my words
Warren: and do you?
Cam: not always
Cam: it usually leads to us arguing when I don't
Warren: I reserve my arguments, your honor
Cam: ugh
Cam: I liked you more when you were giving me a shovel talk, can we go back to that?
Warren: nope
Warren: all I'm saying is that he already told you how things work with him. With words
Warren: use those. Wisely
Cam: I'll do the best I can
Warren: good. It's all I ask

Continuation from here
@witheredpetalsmses (Gilmore)
" Relived? " Gilmore spits back, how could Warren think of such a thing." I have lost enough already to not want to lose a brother, if anything I expect that you remain a constant in my life if nothing else!" Their frown deepens as Death goes on." I have nothing, I yearn for nothing but at least I could count that you, Freddie and Pestilence would be here, with me in this no matter the circumstances! " It was selfish on their part, to want them to stay even when it was clear that Warren desired for something more, he had always loved too deeply.
" Yes, I would rather!" Gil shakes their head." I thought you knew better than this Warren, after all we have been through but I see now that is not the case." " This one thing? It is never the one thing, you always want more, you desire passion and so you look for it. It's Maya now but it was Barachiel before, who you proclaimed to love so dearly." Gilmore breaths in, this was not how they expected the evening to go." I do not care. You will do as you please as you always have and I'll be there to pick up the pieces of what is left. If you want then do call Pestilence, I'm not sure what they can bring to the table."
Warren was proud of himself for not losing his temper like he usually did. He would have yelled and destroyed things when feeling this cornered and offended but not this time. Not here in their home so he shook his head, taking a deep breath, "Me being a constant in your life doesn't mean it was a good one. We're bonded by our creation and destiny but I'm tired to live like that's all I am. Aren't you?" He asked tiredly, "we can't change what we are or run for it, but at least we can escape it for a little while. I'm sorry. I really am sorry you lost the one thing you ever wanted. I wish you have never had to experience that loss and pain but it was not my fault and you can be angry at the work and at me if you want but you have no right to deny me the one thing that had made me less of a monster. And you can't deny me either to leave this world under my own circumstances, Gilmore. I love you but I'm not changing my mind on this," he said in a final tone. "Are you even listening to yourself? You prefer to have a slaughter to clean up after my rage than letting me go? So all those lives don't matter? Weren't you the one asking me to stop killing indiscriminately millenia ago? Why can you change and not me?" He asked shaking his head because even with his job, Gilmore wasn't really vicious like he and pestilence were. This came out as a big bitter surprise now. Warren huffed and raised his voice this time, "exactly you idiot! Exactly! I don't want you to have to pick up the pieces of anything! I don't want more of yours and the other resentment. I know I'm not gonna be with Maya after we pass but at least I won't be here making everyone's life a hell," he said with a broken tone.
Gilmore stares ahead, they often tried not to think too much about their existence, what they were, an anomaly of sorts and while they could understand where Warren was coming from they could not deal with the truth of the matter." Is that how you see us? Monsters?" Death steps back, hands turning into fists. "You are right, I cannot. You have always made up your mind with little care for others opinions and this will be no different, you are set in your ways." Gil closes their eyes, trying to hold themselves. " That is not what I meant, but you are capable of staying without achieving those things and between the two of us who is the one that has changed. Warren you have allowed yourself to feel things, to live your life with the pain that comes with it and in the end you will do as you please!" Finally Death stares back, they want to tell him there is no resentment from their part but they can't, because there is. " You carry yourself too high Warren."
Warren stood up, holding their glance in challenge, "not you. Me. I am a monster. The things that I've done, the people I've hurt. The pain I've unleash is not short of what a monster would do," he admitted looking uncommonly guilty. It stung that Gilmore threw to his face that he never cared for others and always did as he wanted, "I never thought the price to live this life your so high. Even back with Barachiel. I really tried not to feel things and spent long centuries without feeling anything for anyone until her. Maybe this is how it was supposed to be. Maybe that's why you spare her life," he said with a little hope in his voice, not wanting them to have such a negative conversation when they had managed to be so civil with each other for so long. It hurts to see their sibling so mad at him, "it was never my intention to hurt any of you when I decide to live my own life. Even less when I fell in love," he said apologetically, "life as we had it before playing human wasn't a life at all. I don't want to go back to that. I don't want you to go back to that either. Numb, emotionless, empty. You deserve better, Gil."
Gilmore relaxes for a moment, features softening." You are not a monster Warren. Yes, you have caused a lot of hurt in your path but that, it was then, you feel remorse and that shows change." They grow quiet, Death was still not sure why they had helped Maya on that awful night, they remembered that it would not cause too much of a problem to lend her a hand. They weren't sure if they believed in faith. " I'm not asking you to return to it, I wouldn't ask that of you." Gil confesses." But that is not the case for myself Warren, there is no better for me." And they truly thought it was the case, Uriel had been an expected surprise one that would not come again.
Warren's expression softened when Gilmore said he wasn't a monster, "someone once told me I wasn't able to change. That I have a lot of red in my ledge and that won't ever change," he said with a sigh. "I know you might think this is a whim, but it's different than it was with Barachiel. Maya is just too good even with all the bad things she has gone through," he said with a small smile, "I just want to make her happy," he admitted. He moved closer and placed a hand over his sibling's shoulder, "you don't know that. I know it feels like that but you already learned there is something good and some positive things to feel," he said seriously, "I'm still here for you," he assured.
Gilmore gives in, a sigh escaping their lips." I know." They say, deep down they knew the reason for their outburst, they were jealous of Warren to be able to love as he did and to be loved in return." She makes you happy and as much as I hate the thought of you leaving eventually, I know that there is a good reason for it."
Death shakes their head." No, there is not nor do I wish it to be. " But at least they weren't alone, Warren and Freddie were here as well as Trevor." I know that you are, I do appreciate it Warren. I apologize for... My strong reaction."
Warren relaxed a little when Gilmore sounded more understanding of his reasons, “Thank you, Gil. I know I’m stubborn and normally a huge idiot, but I promise this time it’s more than just that,” he assured.
He sighed, “and you dare to call me stubborn uh?” he shook his head, “just try not to close yourself completely,” he almost pleaded. Warren smiled a bit, “No need to apologize, I understand where that came from, I just wanted to explain…” he sighed, “have you considered adopting a pet?” he asked suddenly, wondering if maybe something like that could help his sibling’s heart not to freeze entirely, “Maya adopted a dog before we moved in together and then I adopted two kittens, they’re the cutest thing,” he smiled uncharacteristically, “I realized those little creatures are good incentives.”
" You are stubborn." Gilmore agreed with his statement." As long as you speak to the others as well about your plan, that is all that I ask." They wouldn't want to be the one to deliver the news once the time came, having to deal with whatever questions the other horsemen might have. Gilmore rolls their eyes." Yes and I will make no such promises." Death raises and eyebrow at the question." A pet?" They hadn't really consider it, usually they were satisfied with the ducks but they would never take them from their home. " I see, I'm not sure about myself but I will take it into consideration."
Warren grinned, "I know. It's part of the charm. Sometimes at least," he joked. "Hell no! I'm not telling Pest about it. I don't want to talk to them if I can avoid it. Freddie can deliver the news," he said with a grin knowing Gilmore didn't want to be the one telling them. "fine, make no promises but just remember you're capable to feel more than you allow yourself," he asked softly. He smiled, "If you ever consider it, I can help you pick a pet. I also have a horse cause we have a stable at home so if you like to have one we have the space for it," he offered.
Gilmore sighs." But of course you wouldn't tell them of the news. I'm not sure why you and Freddie avoid Pestilence so much, they can be good company." They joke lightly. " You have a stable?" Gilmore almost wants to sigh again, what didn't Warren have." I will consider it and if needed I will go to you for help but for now I am content with the ducks by the lake."
Warren rolled his eyes, “Cause they’re annoying as fuck. I don’t think Freddie is avoiding them, I think he’s hurt he was sent away,” he shrugged, “only you think Pestilence is a good company,” he huffed. “I do. When I got the house Maya and I live at now, I made sure I had a space for my horse and Freddie’s horse is there too now,” he grinned, “ok, as you want, the ducks do seem to like you a lot,” he smiled.

False confidence
TIME: September 26th, 2024 PLACE: The Union Bluff Hotel BETWEEN: Fredrick ( @frederickkatz ) & Warren NOTES: Written on Discord. Very short para.
Freddie was fuming. He just couldn’t believe Warren could be such an asshole. “why the fuck was he here? If you were really talking business with him you would’ve told me, so I came in later. You did it on purpose! You wanted me to see you talking to him! What is this fucking game?” he asked losing his patience as he stood in front of his brother with a challenging look in his eyes.
Warren wasn’t really impressed or intimidated by his brother’s outburst. It was even a little amusing, “Don’t yell at me, Fredrick and calm the fuck down. We’re supposed to be acting like civilized creatures,” he said with a smirk as he went back to sit on the couch while the younger horseman stayed on his feet. “I didn’t care if you saw me talking to him or not. And I’m not playing any games. You can either believe me or have a tantrum, it still doesn’t change the fact that you’re acting like an idiot right now,” he sighed and leaned back, “now sit down and let’s move on,” he pointed.
Freddie really hated when Warren talked to him like that. As if just because he was older he was the boss of him. “You’re not being very civilizer ambushing my friend when he was leaving,” he pointed crossing his arms and sitting down with an expression of anger and frustration in his face. “I’m not acting like an idiot. You wouldn’t like it if one day you find me talking to Maya just like that.”
The last argument made Warren smirk, “I don’t mind that you talk to Maya. I have nothing to hide and I know there’s nothing you can say that could affect our relationship and I know you wouldn’t hurt her… but you know what’s funny?” he asked leaning to the front with a devilish gleam in his eyes, “you just compared her and Cameron in importance… which makes me think that you care about him more than what you want to let it show,” he said confidently, “you’re developing feelings… I honestly thought it would take you longer,” he admitted.
Freddie could feel that stupid reaction of a blush spread on his face, so he looked away, “I didn’t compare them! It’s not the same at all! I’m only saying that you should respect my business like I promise to respect yours. Besides, I can’t be sure with you, you’ve never been exactly safe to be around,” he pointed seriously. At the mention of feelings he growled, “Gilmore was right, you’re not the same anymore. You talking about feelings? And assuming you know when something like us is developing them? Come on! I always thought you smarter than that, Warren,” he said with a murderous look on his face, “I’m not developing any feelings,” he denied as if he believed it.
Warren laughed, “Yes you did, and I get it. It happens, sometimes you just start getting attached and all. No judging you at all, Fred. Though you’re right, I should’ve asked first out of respect. But now you know I’m planning to work with him so get over it,” he rolled his eyes and then he laughed again at the pointless denial, “Really? Then what is this? This idiotic display of feelings you’re showing right now?” he asked amused, “you care about that fae. And a lot more than you’re willing to admit and that’s ok. I’m not gonna push you to have all the answers right now, but it’s very obvious, Freddie,” he pointed simply, “you sleep with a lot of people and yet, his energy is the one that lingers. Not only in my hotel but in you,” he said as if it was obvious, “you decided to buy from me a stupid couch just cause he left his handprints on it… and he fucking stays the night! You really want to keep pretending you feel nothing for him?” he asked with a sarcastic expression.
Everything Warren was saying was technically true, but it wasn’t the way he was saying it. At least that was what Freddie had been trying to convince himself of, so he stood up and started pacing, “It’s not anything like that. Stop projecting on me! Just because you have stupid feeling and had convinced yourself you’re a stupid human doesn’t’ mean it’s happening to me,” he said as he loosen his tie. “Cameron and I have an arrangement. It’s no strings attached, we’re just having fun and yeah he's coming over more often because it’s convenient for both of us,” he said even if he knew it was a lie. That it had been him the one bringing Cameron back with him.
Warren hummed when his brother caved in just a little. He could see the moment when Freddie started to make up excuses to overexplain whatever he and Cameron had, “sure, of course it’s convenient. It always is… I noticed the marks on his wrists. That at least means that you care enough about him lo let him stay and it means he trusts you enough to let you do that to him,” he pointed, “look at me in the eyes and tell me you really don’t feel anything for him, and I’ll stop being a pain in your life,” he challenged.
Freddie clenched his jaw and squared his shoulders, holding Warren’s gaze. He swallowed hard and huffed, “You know what? Fuck you! Fuck you and your hotel and your business and your feelings and your stupid human-like life! I have nothing to prove to you, and I’m done. I’m not like you. I don’t want to be like you,” he spat with as much venom as he could, even if it wasn’t anger what his eyes showed. “I don’t wanna keep working with you, and I’m leaving your fucking hotel as soon as I can. All of this was a stupid idea,” he huffed and turned around to leave the office, not caring if his brother was calling him. He just didn’t want to deal with any of that bullshit about feelings.

Word to the wise
TIME: September 26th, 2024 PLACE: The Union Bluff Hotel BETWEEN: Cameron ( @cameronslaw ), Warren & Freddie ( @frederickkatz ) NOTES: Written on Discord.
Warren wasn’t unaware of the energy of certain fae who had been coming and going into his hotel. Or how said fae had ruined one of his very expensive couches his little brother had already paid for. But he had figured it was a very casual thing. Something like what he used to have with Maya at first. That’s why he was surprised to find the fae in front of him when the elevator opened. He arched a brow and huffed, “Are you just leaving Freddie’s suite?” he asked with a serious and confused tone, not moving aside to give the other space to walk out.
Cameron was happy but annoyed. Happy because, yes, his legs are still a bit wobbly if he doesn't focus on them, and yes, his wrists still have some bruises, which all in all means last night was great, but he wasn't where he wanted to be. No, because he had very clear plans on wrapping himself like a vine around Freddie's frame, maybe let him leave to get them breakfast and then sneak a second (third?) round before he got ready to leave, but Freddie had other plans. An important meeting or something, he said when he rushed Cam out of the door. The joke was on him, though; his shirt was inside Cameron's overnight bag.
He was caught off guard, though, when a wall of a man radiating power talked to him without even a greeting. "Uh... Yes?" Cam tried to step out of the elevator but was unable to do so. "I don't know? Was I not supposed to be?"
Warren didn't change his serious expression as the fae made the question, "Probably not because that means that idiot is gonna be late for our meeting," he said, rolling his eyes, "so you are the fae who's risking to setting my hotel on fired for my little brother's whim uh?" He asked with a little smirk as he offered his hand, "I'm Warren," he said, still not letting the fae out of the elevator, "Are you in a hurry? Cause since you made my brother late, the least you could do would be join me for a cup of coffee," he pointed.
"Oh, so you're the one he's meeting, huh. I think he might've... lost track of time." he shrugged with a tiny smirk, though his smile fell as the man introduced himself. "You're his brother?!" Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit. "I'm Cameron," the fae said, swallowing and shaking his hand. It wasn't like he could just say no when the embodiment of war invited him for coffee, especially when he was cornering him inside of an elevator in the very fancy hotel he fucking owned, so the fae nodded. "Yeah. Sure. Coffee sounds great."
The horseman nodded as if it was the most obvious thing, “I am. I know, no resemblance, I’m taller and more handsome,” he joked without a smile, which probably didn’t help the joke to land correctly. “Cameron. Nice to meet you,” he said with a dangerous smirk because now he had a name. One Freddie had refused to give him. “Good, step back, please,” he said so he could get in the elevator and used his card to be able to reach the penthouse where his office was, “How long have you known Freddie?” he asked, curious to know how long this has been going on.
Cameron actually huffed a chuckle at that; it's the kind of joke he'd make. That smirk made him a little uneasy, but then again, the whole interaction was leaving him on his toes. He stepped back, allowing the man inside the elevator, swallowing again when the doors were closed. Why did he feel like he should text Freddie to let him know where he was? Or maybe ask for help? Wait, he was asking something. "Uh, a couple of months, I think. Three, maybe? Not that long of a time," he said, then added, "Though for you guys, I think years would also not be a long time."
He smiled when the fae laughed at his joke. At least he had a sense of humor. Warren could practically feel the nervousness radiating from the other, “Relax. I’m not gonna hurt you,” he said, shaking his head and still smirking, “so you met him almost as soon as he arrived, uh? That’s interesting,” he said when the doors of the elevator opened, “You’re the fae who works at the legal firm? Or is that your brother?” he asked remembering Erik had mentioned a fae and Uriel’s son looking for sponsors. He got out and opened the door to his office, inviting the shorter man inside, “take a seat, I’ll order the coffee,” he said as he reached for the intercom and asked for coffee for three.
Cam nodded along, scratching his head. "Sorry, you both just have... very different vibes," he said in a way of mentioning their energies. Freddie was intense but soothing to him now, Warren was... electric. And not the good kind. "I think so, yeah. He mentioned he had just gotten corporeal." Cam said, then added, "From what I gathered, that's a he thing, right? Being without a body. You guys like having vessels more?" He said, unsure of what he was supposed to talk about or what kinds of subjects were delicate. Cam was surprised at the question about the firm. "Oh wow, you really have an ear everywhere in town, huh? That's me, yeah. My brother is the artistic one," Cam said, not mentioning Devon's name of where he worked, unsure if it was safe. "I work at the firm with the supernatural cases." He said, then took a seat, confused as for the three coffees. Was he expecting Cameron to stay here during the meeting?!
Warren laughed at the, "I know. We're supposed to. Bet you haven't met Gilmore yet," he teased. "That was like two hundred years ago, but yeah, that's pretty recent for us," he smiled, amused, "I meant as soon as he arrived to town, but I'm assuming the answer to that is yes too," he teased, sitting down, in one of the luxury couches, nodding to the one in front for the fae to sit. He frowned, confused at the question, "Freddie is complicated," he said, scratching his chin, "they didn't like much being on vessels. I guess it's more a thing you grow fond of," he explained. "As a businessman, you have to," he explained as the service arrived with the coffee and some pastries, setting everything on the coffee table and then Warren thanked them. "That's right. The musician. Forgot his name, but he's Maya's friend," he smiled a little more openly when he mentioned her. "Right! So you're the one who's supposed to be on our side when something happens involving humans?" He asked, reaching for his coffee.
Cam frowned a bit. "I haven't, no. That's death, right?" He asked, relaxing a bit. Watching Warren talk about his brother was amusing in a way that was almost relatable. "Brothers often are." he shrugged when he said Freddie was complicated. It was an understatement, but Warren didn't have to know that. "Oh my god, that's right, you're Maya's guy! I mean, boyfriend. I've never actually met her, but Dev likes her a lot, they're great friends," Cam said with a smile, it was almost as if that information humanized Warren a bit. "Precisely, yeah. My job is to find legal loopholes so they don't have to know what we are. Or that we exist."
Warren nodded, "yes, that's them, so he you think I'm not the fun sibling, waiting till you met them," he smirked, knowing most creatures feared his younger sibling. He shook his head, "I'm not saying it as my brother. What he is is that it's more complicated than the rest of us," he said, not going into details about the purpose of their creation. At the mention of Maya, Warren smiled brightly, "that's me, yes, the luckiest guy in town for sure," he assured, "they are. Maya has made good friends here," he said with a nod, taking a sip of his coffee. He hummed at the fae's answer, "I would benefit a lot from having someone like you in my legal team," he said thoughtfully, "I'm afraid my little brother wouldn't be amused about that," he sighed, guessing Freddie would be against it, "so you two are dating?" He asked out of the blue.
"Oh, I can imagine. Death must be really scary," he said almost seriously, politely taking his cup of coffee. The answer got him frowning. "What do you mean by that? If you don't mind me asking," He couldn't help but smile at Warren's sheer brightness when he spoke about Maya. "I'd be super up for that." Cam perked up at the mention of being a part of Warren's legal team, then chuckled. "If you do what Freddie says, no one would ever get close to me with a ten foot pole." Cam said rolling his eyes, thinking bitterly about his stupid ban on the fae being at the Red Door. He was sipping his coffee when that last question hit, and Cameron choked on it, coughing a bit and placing the cup on the tray. "What? Where- Did he say that?!"
Warren smirked, "you have no idea," he said, amused. He took a deep breath at the question, "Famine has always been very set on fulfilling their duties, but when we were put on standby," he clicked his tongue, "it's been complicated for them to find a new calling," he said vaguely. It was interesting to see the fae had ambitions related to his career, but then he frowned, "I don't do what my brother says. I just don't mess with their acquaintances," he said with a shrug. Warren reached to offer a napkin to the fae when he started coughing, "Does it looks like he would tell me something like that?" He asked, arching a brow, "I'm just curious as of why you've been at his suite so often and why I'm finding you leaving in the morning when most of his friends don't spend the night," he said simply.
That sounded ominous, but Cam had nothing to say, so he just listened. It was weird to hear someone calling Freddie Famine. It sounded... cold. "He seems very set on... rules," Cam mused, rubbing his bruised wrists unconsciously. He laughed when Warren asked if Freddie would tell him if they were dating, Cam doubted Freddie would even tell CAM that. The fae had opened his mouth to deny that they were dating but paused when he understood what the horseman had just said. "Wait, they don't? But I thought..."
Warren laughed at that, "You have no idea. Our first hundred years were a fucking nightmare with him reminding us about the rules," he said, amused. He noticed the bruises and smirked, "I feel like I should be surprised about that, but I guess it was expected..." he said casually. He clicked his tongue, "exactly. Which leads me to my original question, but going by your reaction, I have the feeling you're not dating. Just be careful. Getting attached to us is dangerous," he warned.
Cam laughed at that, imagining a baby Freddie hitting the others with a stick and talking about how they were supposed to be doing stuff instead of having fun. He hid his wrists by crossing his arms, swallowing when he saw Warren had noticed them. "Expected?" He asked, then rolled his eyes at the warning. "No offense, but aren't you dating a human?"
Warren wasn't sure what was so funny about Freddie being strict about rules, but he only smiled, guessing the fae hadn't seen the bad side yet. "Let's just say that the rule thing goes deeper than you imagine," he shrugged. He sat straight and looked at Cameron in the eyes with a serious expression, "she's not a human," he corrected, even if technically she was just a little step above humans. "Doesn't that makes me an expert on the matter?" He asked seriously, "you need to be specially careful with Freddie. He hasn't been in human form long enough to learn emotions. The best you can do for your own good is not get attached," he said and then leaned back, "take that as a friendly advice. He's still too unpredictable, and it's not a joke we can be really dangerous."
Cam shivered when he sensed a wave of anger coming off of Warren. "Sorry," he said right away. "You don't have to worry about it. I'm not here expecting him to fall in love with me or anything." He said, arms wrapped around his own waist protectively. "So, no need to worry about my feelings. And Freddie wouldn't hurt me, I know that."
Warren felt a little bad when the fae apologized. He didn't mean to sound so upset, but sometimes it just came naturally. "That's the problem, Cameron. We can't help to hurt others. Even those we love and trust me, we don't do it on purpose, but it happens, and it gets bad," he said remembering how Maya had gotten caught in the middle more than once, "we also have a lot of enemies, and since they can't hurt us, they go after the ones we care about. I'm not trying to warn you off of my brother, but I'm letting you know what dangerous territory you're getting into," he said, putting his empty mug on the table.
Cameron paused, thinking over what he said. "I... will think about it" he said, wondering how bad it got for Maya, but he wouldn't ask. The fae frowned when he mentioned the enemies: "Thanks for the warning, but... I don't think you have to worry about it. Freddie... doesn't seem like the kind of guy who gets attached to people."
Warren sighed when Cameron hit the nail on the head, "exactly. Sometimes that hurts more than anything else. And just because he doesn't get attached doesn't mean you won't either," he said, simply, hoping now Cameron knew what he had meant.
Cameron had a frown on his face when he spoke again, almost confused. "So you didn't bring me to give me a shovel talk, you hurt his feelings, I hurt your face kinda talk? You were just warning me not to catch feelings?"
Warren hummed, "I'm more worried about his lack of feelings and how that would affect you," he said honestly, "he'd need to develop feelings first so I can worry about you hurting those," he said honestly.
The fae frowned for a second. "You're upset because he doesn't feel things... is that it? You wish he did," Cam said with an empathetic smile. "You know, since we started... seeing each other, I see him developing those. Nothing too big or- or earth shattering, but he cares, you know?" He paused. "He brought me ice cream when I was sad. Do I think he googled what to do? Possibly. But still."
"I know everyone here would be safer if he had feelings, so you can blame me for expecting him to do that. But I'm also aware how long that takes," he sighed and looked towards the door when he felt his brother's energy approaching just as Cameron sounded almost moved about Freddie bringing him ice-cream. He looked at the fae and pointed to his lips to make him stop talking. "I'll wait for those documents then. Thank you for all the information, Cameron," he changed the subject abruptly just as the door opened.
Freddie knew Warren was gonna be upset, but he could deal with that. As soon as Cameron left, he hurried to get ready, putting on a suit like every time he was supposed to talk business with his brother, but he frowned as soon as the elevator stopped at the penthouse, and he felt Cameron's energy there. He opened the door without knocking, "what the fuck do you think you're doing, Warren?" He asked seriously, glaring at his brother, wondering why the fae was even there.
Cameron stopped himself from continuing his defense of Freddie when Warren motioned for him to stop talking. He then caught up on the warning when he heard the door open, still too shit at reading energies to figure out he was coming over. Cam turned to look at the door when he heard it open and then felt himself shrink on the couch at the glare he saw on Freddie's eyes. Was he angry at him?
Warren expression remained neutral even with his brother's reaction, "what does it look like? I'm working. Since you decided to come late to the meeting, I'm taking advantage of the time to talk business with Cameron. He's a very competent lawyer, and you know I like working with the best," he said seriously as he pointed to the couch, "I ordered your coffee," he waved his hand towards the table and returned his attention to Cameron, "I'm sorry for taking some of your time when you were in a rush, but I'd like to talk about the project you mentioned more in detail," he smiled, "I'll call your office to schedule a proper meeting," he said as if they hadn't been talking about the other man in the office just a minute ago.
Freddie hated how Warren was talking to him so condescendingly, especially in front of Cameron. He took a deep breath and turned to look at the fae, who seemed scared? Had he scared Cameron with his little outburst? He sighed and looked at Warren talk to Cameron about a project, still unsure if he believed him, but he still sat down, stealing some glances towards the fae to make sure he was ok.
The fae's eyes met Freddie's once he sat down, for just a moment, before he turned back to Warren, who had just talked to him. "Of course, yeah, no worries." He said, getting to his feet, since apparently, this was Warren's way to send him away. What was with horsemen and sending him away that morning?! Stepping towards the door, though, he reached to press his hand over Freddie's shoulder, his wrist visible only to him. He didn't say anything, but he hoped Freddie understood that squeeze as he was saying he was okay. "I'll be waiting on your call, thanks for hearing me, Warren," Cam said with a nod because, in the end, he did need to be on Warren's good side of the good of their project.
Warren stood up when Cameron did and smiled politely as he pretended he hadn't seen the fae reach to touch his brother and then his reaction. That was precisely what he was warning Cameron about. "Thank you for including me on this. I'll call later today," he assured as he walked Cameron towards the door. Ignoring the murderous glare of his younger brother.
Freddie squinted his eyes at Cameron's words, but as soon as the fae touched him, he visibly relaxed. He might have even smiled when he noticed the bruise on the wrist, and he nodded almost imperceptibly to Cameron as he walked to the door, followed by his brother, with whom he was about to have some serious words.
Cam relaxed too when he saw that smile, letting go of his shoulder to be walked out, saying his goodbyes to them both and hoping he hadn't said too much. His mind, however, kept replaying Warren's warning on the way home. Was there something he was missing?

Texts: Erik & Warren
@erikdragon
Erik: Warren
Erik: Warry
Erik: Worrywart
Erik: Guess who has two thumbs and is getting the festival in his honor back after a good 300 years?
Warren: don't talk to me you treacherous fuck
Warren: I can't believe you chose a disgusting mutt to be your best man!
Warren: and even worse, I had to hear it from Maya cause you couldn't even tell me
Warren: for fuck sake's we've know each other for centuries and not chose a stupid wolf over me 😠
Erik: Ouchie
Erik: Seth was right then, you are upset about that
Erik: But it's not what you're thinking, Worrywart
Erik: And besides, Jason is a pretty cool guy, I'm sure you'd like him if you knew him
Warren: don't talk to me
Warren: you're lucky I like and respect your angel, otherwise you'll have my sword in the middle of the chest
Warren: I don't care if he's a fucking saint
Warren: I thought our friendship meant something
Erik: Warren
Erik: I know you enjoy these anger outbursts, but would you shut up for a second
Erik: Best men is a thing of this century, I met Jason this century
Erik: Your role in my wedding was supposed to reflect our story
Erik: So I was gonna ask you to do our fucking handfasting, you absolute dickhead
Warren: oh
Warren: you want me to make your wedding official?
Warren: ok
Warren: I'm sorry 👉🏻👈🏻
Warren: it was just really upsetting to think you hadn't consider me to be part of such an important day in your life
Warren: especially because both Maya and I consider you family
Warren: I'm sorry for been such a dick
Erik: I mean
Erik: Seth's god doesn't deserve to bless our wedding, so we agreed to do this by the old gods
Erik: And you're one of the last people in this world who understands what it means to be blessed by nature in a promise like that
Erik: Oh wow you're apologizing, is that my wedding gift already? 😮
Erik: You big baby
Erik: You really thought I'd let some nobody marry me and Seth when I have a brother who fought alongside me still walking this Earth?
Warren: that's true. They don't deserve to be part of your wedding. Is he really ok with that? Not having his father's blessing?
Warren: I do. Long time ago I even considered a wedding too and that's exactly how it would have gone. With the blessing of the true gods
Warren: no. It's just part of your present
Warren: that really means a lot. Thank you Erik
Erik: It's a sore topic, of course, but he said he's fine as long as we're together. So I promised him every time we renew our vows we can do it with a different creed, so we get the blessing of every entity I the fucking universe to prove his god's wrong.
Erik: I knew you'd get it
Erik: Hey, don't get soft on me now. I'm counting on you to run the ceremony, so keep it together man
Erik: 🫂
Erik: We're going to have the wedding during the Golden Festival's celebration, I'm thinking of a small hand fasting by the beach at sunset and then we do the dances and offerings in a village wide party at night
Warren: that's very thoughtful of you. I'm glad you two found each other
Warren: don't worry about it. This is a one in a century emotional outburst
Warren: sounds like a great way to reset the Dragon's reign 😉
Warren: we should meet up to settle everything, so it goes as planned
Erik: Thanks. It seemed to cheer him up, so I'm planning the 20 year as an Indian wedding, or maybe Greek? The chair thingy sounds fun
Erik: lmao duly noted, I'll appreciate it while it lasts then 😛
Erik: Right? I'm actually super excited about the whole thing!
Erik: Well, I was going to invite you over for drinks to ACTUALLY ask you to do the handfasting, before you went and cried your crocodile tears all over my plans
Erik: So wanna come over? I'll pop one of the truly OLD bourbons to celebrate
Warren: make it Greek! It's always fun to smash things 😋 maybe your angel will be less shy then
Warren: don't enjoy it too much
Warren: I am too. It's been a long time since I've seen a real ceremony like that. Too bad orgies are frowned upon now and that I'm in a committed relationship
Warren: I already apologized but since it was my mistake it's only fair I invite you over for dinner at least. Both of you
Warren: that's sounds fantastic actually. Should I bring something?
Erik: True 💯 Oh you haven't seen Seth in a while, he's not that shy, believe me (;
Erik: Well, since we're both into monogamy these days, I'd say it's the best time to have an orgy-less festival lmao
Erik: We graciously accept (: maybe on the weekend? I think by then the actual invitations will be ready and Seth and I can go there to deliver them
Erik: Just bring that tight ass of yours 😉 If you get here before I reach the lair, you get to pick which one we open
Warren: I've seen him at his store. Even though I have a baker at home, I enjoy his sweets on my way to work sometimes. He's still very calmed and soft spoken
Warren: that's a good point. Who would've thought we would be ok with a celibate celebration?
Warren: that's sounds like a great plan. We'll be happy to have you over
Warren: was that a challenge? I'll be there literally in the blink of an eye unless you're cheating and put on wards in the castle
Erik: Oh, that he is, calm and soft-spoken, but don't mistake it for shyness, my friend 😉
Erik: I'm still trying to absorb it myself, it's crazy to think of us as monogamous.
Erik: Not a castle, just a mansion, and nope, no wards, but I'm moving downstairs as we speak 😉
Warren: I very much rather mistake it for kindness, thank you
Warren: we wouldn't have believe it if someone had told us that before
Warren: fine. I'll wait for you there

Warren knew the exact moment when he fucked up but he had already said it and there was no backing out for him so he remained sitting and held Gilmore's gaze, "Honestly I thought you all would be relief not having to deal with me anymore. I've heard more than enough time that all the mess I leave behind has to be cleared up by you," he said bitterly.
"And that's surprising how? You already lectured me when I lost Barachiel and I slaughtered half of the continent. Do you want me to go at it again when I lose her? You rather deal with me losing my temper than letting me go?" he asked standing up to look Gilmore in the eyes. "Isn't that what we've been doing? Why not? We've already been punished enough for doing what we were created for! why can't we just have this one thing uh?" he asked angrily remembering the cost it came with them being what they were.
Warren clenched his fist and shook his head, "Sure, so what? Should we go start a war so I lead the way like the older brother? should we call Pestilence then? they're the eldest... that's what you want?"
Gilmore gets up, their features severe at their brothers honest confession. " What about us Warren? You would leave us without any thought?" Death had always been good at holding unto their emotions but since Uriel's passing they found it hard not speak, not feel.
" You are selfish. I know that you love her and maybe if things had been different I would be open to your idea but in truth you are seeing no one but yourself." Gil takes a deep breath." And what do you suggest then? That we stop what we are doing? That we play this game as if we are human and have always been? Well, it does not work that way and I'm sure Freddie will have no trouble in finding his footing in this town." Death looks away, did it even matter clearly their brothers didn't care for what they did and would rather be left to their own devices.
" You are my older brother are you not?" Gil stares back at him." I would like to ask that you start acting like one."

"Come on, Gul, you better than anyone knows that nothing is really immortal. Not even us," he sighed and rubbed his bearded cheek, "I haven't thought about the cost, but the truth is, I don't care. The moment Maya steps out of this world, I'll follow her and I don't give a flying fuck about what happens next," he said seriously.
Warren shrugged, "It won't be my problem anymore. I already did more than enough for whatever I was made for, I'm making a life for me now. Do you really think God thought that ahead of what will be of us?" he asked with an annoyed expression, "no wonder why Freddie was feeling lost and wanted to try something else and I wouldn't be surprised if Pestilence had already lost their mind. They took too long to free of the shackles we were created with."
Gilmore frowns, not enjoying where the conversation was going." I'm not sure what you are implying Warren, I wasn't aware that there was a way and even if there is one there is surely to be a cost." Death gives him a serious look, was their brother aware that if he had any intentions of dying that they would be the one there to guide his soul? Was that even a possibility for them?
" We were made Warren and if we part, others will come along. What then? What sort of existence have we led until now if that is all we are good for? It makes us meaningless" Gilmore shakes their head." We were not even meant to be here as we are now, pretending that we fit in this narrative."

Maybe it had been insensitive to say that but Warren wanted Gilmore to know that he hurt for him too. For the chances that he lost when he lost Uriel. It was hard to express it cause they weren't even made to feel any of those things, let alone mourn a loss, "I still want you to know that I'm sorry," he said simply.
The tone in his sibling's words made it clear they didn't want to talk about it anymore so Warren didn't push, he only nodded.
He shrugged, "not really... None of us deserve that and we can't undo what we've done, but I'm trying to do better," not for himself but for Maya, because he knew he didn't deserve her or what they had. Even if that change came before he met her. "But what if we ended it before we were even summoned?" he asked wondering if there was a turnaround or a way out, "you know there is a way right? We aren't immortal after all," he pointed.
Gilmore presses their lips tighter, keeping their emotions in check." You are right, you can only imagine." They take a sip of their drink, they were aware that someday Maya would pass and what it would cause their brother, but that was different, both had a life ahead of them, one they could enjoy together until then, unlike them which had been taken away whatever thoughts of a future gone and now here they were, alone again left with the pain of what had happen to Uriel.
"There was nothing to be done." Gil sets the glass down wanting to change the subject, before the bitterness over took them.
The edge of their lips curve up." Oh?" They hum as they hear Warren." Such a hard worker Warren, would you like a golden star?" Gilmore teases lightly before sighing." No, I do not think that we could. It's what we were made for, our purpose. Burden to carry even if we would like to aspire for something new."

Warren handed the glass and grabbed his own, taking a small sip as he listened. It made sense. His grief hadn't been as terrible as Gilmore's so in truth, he didn't fully understood how his sibling felt, "I can only imagine. I don't know what I would do if... when I lose Maya," he said with a bitter taste in his mouth at the words. He already knew what he'd do but his sibling didn't need to know his darkest plans. "I wish there was something I could've done for you to help things from going like this...," he said honestly because now it felt unfair he could have some sort of happiness when Gilmore couldn't.
He snorted, "Of course. Freddie probably is seeing this like vacations or something," he smiled before getting a bit serious, "I know you might not believe it but I do work sometimes," he teased, "not as in the war suit but in different ways. Trying to balance the scale a bit," he sighed knowing that it didn't matter all the good he tried to do now. It wouldn't never be enough to make it up for the horrors he had caused. "Do you think we could just get away with not fulfilling the reason of our creation?" he asked before taking a longed gulp of his drink.
Gilmore nods at the offer of a drink." I'm not sure if either thing would help. There is too much pain there, I wish to not relive it be it good or less pleasant memories." In truth Death couldn't bear it, to finally know what it was like to love and be loved only to have it taken away in such a cruel manner it was almost as if it was a punishment for what they were.
" And I have far too much work, unlike some." Gilmore glances up at their brother with a small smile." I mean Freddie of course." They joke light heartedly.
