This is the 4D output for this project! I wanted to emulate the feeling of being stuck travelling through interstitial spaces, with the ending looping back to the beginning, which is supposed to show that the entire video itself is interstitial, with no end or destination to be found. I wanted audiences to be sort of forced to confront these spaces, to appreciate the things that we often pass by absent mindedly.

Final Submission for 2D!! I decided to create this form of presentation over the continuous strip, as this is easier to digest and display digitally and physically, as it also upscales the images to make them a bit easier to see. I had the images cover up the background, which is a clearer image of one of the interstitial spaces, showing how the clarity does not matter, and the feeling of remembering the fuzzy recollection of the place itself is moreso interstitial and true to memory.

Final Reflective output! The piece is meant to show the process of making all of the assignments, but in this case out of sequence to showcase that the order in which things happen and the final outcome are not as important as the act of creating, and the joy that comes from being someone who creates.

After showing my drawings and minecraft concepts to my girlfriend who happens to be an environmental design student, she offered to help me learn 3d modelling software in order to make the structure properly. We used Rhino software to create it, and experimented with different materials, colours, and backgrounds. much like the last minecraft model, the structure only works from a certain perspective, but I think that also represents the idea that interstitial architecture should highlight the journey instead of the destination, as there is not set destination in this structure. There is only the journey.

Since I do not know how to use 3d modelling software YET, i wanted to try creating the structure in minecraft to see if its possible to make in a 3d space. I made an initial version that had all the stairs connecting, but it looked almost nothing like the drawing. In order to create a model that was more like the concept, I made a version that only looked similar to the concept from a certain angle, mimicking 3d representations of other impossible structures such as the impossible triangle.

Sketches for 3d project, trying to combine elements from monument valley and the works of M.C. Escher while not being straight copies of either. The tough part about making these impossible structures is that the perspective has to be exactly perfect, otherwise they won't work, which is why it took me so long to get the sketch correctly. Need to find out how this will exist in a 3d space.

M.C. Escher's "Relativity" piece shows no destination as well, and highlights the way interstitial spaces are designed to make people not notice them, despite the abnormality of the space itself.

Inspired by monument valley and its use of interstitial spaces to create impossible structures

Scan of the receipt version, the haziness of the quality and the black and white colour remind me of how people have a fuzzy memory of these places that were designed not to be remembered, but in fact the opposite.

Image straight from receipt paper camera, has a sort of eerie quality which I think adds to the surreal nature of interstitial spaces sometimes.

Reciept paper camera, was given the idea to use this to document interstitial spaces, will test.
