rekant:
‘ That, ’ they could be a statue carved into the rock of the cave wall, but when the eyes open, it is clear that is not so. ‘ — Is not very nice. ’
The mess of vines that climbs the cave walls covers them too, growing over Moss as though they are part of the environment they’ve chosen to take respite in. Perhaps they are, now. It must have been months since they were last awake — years, even. The sun doesn’t creep so deep, and Moss couldn’t keep time if it did.
A bug crawls down their face, they pluck it off their own cheek and crush it between their teeth.
‘ Not everything is for you. ’
Luke’s face crinkles into disgust when they eat the bug. Then:
“I know that!”
He kicks idly at a vine curled along the floor and the tip of his shoe gets caught under it and he trips, falling into a rocky seat next to them. He rubs at the spot on his lower back that took the brunt of the fall.
Anger is something he misplaces in the same way his aunt always misplaced his wrenches on shelves and sinks. It came from somewhere else--is meant for somewhere else--but here it is now, and here he will pick it up.
“Well, can you be quiet, then? I’ve got to find something here.”

@rekant for moss!
Luke is meant to find something here in this cave. He can feel it. After all that lecturing from master Yoda about the importance of all things, it’s hard to say what it is he’s meant to be looking for. For all he knows, it could be a rock or an old artifact or something not real at all! He feels cold and lost. The jedi path has a whole lot more mud than he thought it would. When Luke sees a figure in the cave, of course he calls out.
“Are you here for me?”
A few steps closer and he can see their body, or what is left of it. Exuberant but grousing:
“What can you show me?! You’re a rotting relic!”

And what would we do, you and I, if we could know for sure that someone was there squinting through the dust, saying nothing is lost, that everything lives on waiting only to be wanted back badly enough?

Luke ducks his head away when Han ruffles his hair, but he puts in no real effort to stop it. You won’t hear him admitting it any time soon, but he likes it when Han’s like this--his rough fooling around. Well, in most cases he likes it. When those cases are with him.
“Alright.”
That appears to be an encouraging enough response if Luke’s big smile is anything to go by. But, he’s not so sure why it is he’s smiling this excitedly. Luke hadn’t known he wanted there to be something for Han to share until right now, now that the possibility exists. He doesn’t know what it is he wants to hear either. All he knows is there’s something, and he’s full of energy at the thought of it.
He latches onto Han’s arm--the one that wasn’t slung around him--and spins around to face him; he walks backwards to keep their pace. He’s leaning in towards Han, head tilted all the way back to talk straight up at him. Quick and earnest and rousing and totally unaware of how loud he is:
“I’ll tell you anything. I’m as open as all that space out there.” He swings an arm to a nearby ship window. “Just look! You could ask me anything and I’ll answer it.”
@warstar, cont.

he can’t say it, the words he’d need are too unfamiliar, but what difference would it make if he could? really? he’s not withholding the death star plans, nothing changes between luke knowing or not, so it’s a waste to spin a guilt trip over. what’s a little more debt to the mantra of “no harm, no foul?”
you’d think he’d have picked up on it already, just by looking and without having to hear it formally announced. they’ve been together long enough that han’s one poker face has worn thin, luke should have more of a clue, that’d be a shove in the right direction. he slings his arm around luke, pulls him flush to his side and musses with his hair. ‘ sure kid, but later. i’ll tell you later. believe it or not, it’s too early to hear the sound of my own voice- i’m still running on reserve power. ’
#ic#ic: younger luke.#gnkdroids#gnkdroids: han solo.#gnkdroids. 002#this is the exact kind of special treatment i and luke want thank you#( in case it's not obvious or apparent to you: i love your han!!!! he is! very good!!! the narration is so fun! so him! im living! )

“You sure there’s no way I can talk you out of this?” from han for the OLD man
send a sentence.
There is a faint smile that can be seen less in Luke’s lips and more in the wrinkled skin stretching around it. His eyes are warm. He shakes his head fondly.
“I wish you wouldn’t.”
It is an unspoken admission Luke is too weary to talk around: there is a way, in fact, there are many ways, and I ask that you do not start us down a single one.
When he is alone, Luke counts within him every failing like he’s counting each speck of ash of every fallen padawan. He will never finish. But he must try anyway.
Luke will find a planet empty of intelligent life. He will land there. He will sink his ship in the closest body of liquid. He will build a hut. He will walk a path and count every boulder he sees and take comfort in the static amount. He will eat what he can catch. He will glower at what he can’t. He will meditate twice a day while counting his repleting failings. He will let his hair grow long, longer than Leia’s. He will not use the Force. He will be alone. He will remain. He will do no harm. He will do this every day.
How might the days go if Han convinced him to stay? Luke’s eyelids flutter shut for a moment. He does not let himself imagine. He does not deserve even the abstract idea of it. Low and plainly:
“I have to go. I can do no good here.”

“Don’t you know by now? Don’t you know the truth?” from han for young luke :^)
send a sentence.
There are many truths that have been kept from Luke. Had he known them all sooner, how much could he have saved?
His gaze grazes along Han’s shoulder, a shy hunger. His head tugs away. Softly:
“I don’t.” Luke’s eyes flit up to Han’s. “Won’t you tell me? You’d tell me, wouldn’t you? If there’s something you know, share it with me.”

THE MIST (2007) SENTENCE STARTERS modify as necessary! trigger warnings for violence, death, threatening language
“All the food’s gonna go bad.”
“I’ve gotta start over from scratch.”
“Well, sweetie, you couldn’t exactly know that a tree was gonna come flying through the window.”
“It’s just stuff.”
“We’re safe. That’s all that counts.”
“I really don’t want you running all over the place.”
“You have incredibly low standards.”
“Don’t worry, I’m not gonna punch him in the nose.”
“I’m sorry. I mean it. Sincerely.”
“You’re not heading into town today by any chance, are you?”
“‘Friends’ might be stretching it a little.”
“There’s something in the mist.”
“It’s death out there. It’s the end of days.”
“Stop it, okay? Stop it.”
“Let’s just stay cool. Let’s just try to figure out what happened.”
“I hope you all rot in hell.”
“If you need anything, just holler.”
“First thing we need to do is keep our wits about us and find out what’s happened.”
“It’s Judgment Day and it’s come round at last.”
“You’ve done that to yourself by a life of sin and dissolution.”
“You don’t seem to understand, or you’re trying real hard not to.”
“Would you just shut the fuck up already?”
“The next time you’ve got something to say, you count your teeth, because I’m sick to death of your bullshit.”
“You should’ve said what you meant better.”
“What we saw was impossible. You know that, don’t you?”
“It’s not my blood. I’m fine.”
“We’re in the deep shit here. People need to know.”
“I’m just not that stupid. I mean, what do you take me for?”
“We’ve got real problems to deal with here, and this pathetic attempt at a joke has gone far enough.”
“Well, don’t I feel foolish?”
“I actually thought you were being kind to me today, so thanks for setting me straight.”
“It appears we may have a problem of some magnitude here.”
“They’re not all bad. They can’t all be bad.”
“The day I need a friend like you, I’ll just have myself a little squat and shit one out.”
“You can’t convince some people there’s a fire even when their hair is burning. Denial is a powerful thing.”
“There’s none so blind as those who will not see.”
“Open your eyes. Let the scales fall away.”
“Your tongue must be hung in the middle so that it can waggle at both ends.”
“You’ll have to stop now. You’re scaring the children.”
“The bill is due. It must be paid.”
“Kid, you got brass balls.”
“You sure there’s no way I can talk you out of this?”
“Hey, how come you never asked me out?”
“Can we just stay in here a while? Just you and me?”
“My life for you.”
“Just sleep. Everything’ll be better in the morning.”
“You can’t fuck with me on this. Not like this.”
“We have to get out of here. I mean permanently.”
“You don’t have much faith in humanity, do you?”
“People are basically good as long as the machines are working and you can dial 9-1-1, but you take those things away, you throw people in the dark, you scare the shit out of them, you’ll see how primitive they get.”
“If you scare people badly enough, you can get them to do anything.”
“As a species, we’re fundamentally insane. If you put more than two of us in a room, we pick sides and start dreaming up reasons to kill one another. Why do you think we invented politics and religion?”
“Oh, Jesus, that’s just wrong.”
“Why can’t you just leave well enough alone?”
“Welcome to Sesame Street, today’s word is ‘expiation’.”
“I’m not spending the rest of my life here.”
“I’d rather die out there trying than in here waiting.”
“You stop your chickenshit whining or I will cut your puling tongue out.”
“I heard stuff. We all heard stuff.”
“Don’t you know by now? Don’t you know the truth?”
“Let’s see how far this fuel takes us.”
“Well, we gave it a good shot. Nobody can say we didn’t.”
