A customer stopped me when I was ringing up his wife’s order of foundation because he thought that they’re $16. Since we recently raised the prices on some of our products, I told him, “No, they’re $22, and they were always $22.” He said, “No, look,” and he took me to the makeup section and pointed at the sign that said “BRONZER: $16”.

We don’t have a sign for the price of the foundation because we never got it in any shipments, so we usually just tell customers if they ask. The bronzers on the shelf are right next to the foundation, so like 1/16th of the price sign was next to the foundation. “It says $16 here. I got confused about the product, so I should get it for $16, not $22.”

When I told him, “Um, no, if the sign had said foundation for $16, then it’s our fault and I would gladly override the price for you. But this clearly says bronzer, and what you have is foundation, so…”, he started getting really riled up and his wife kept saying, “It’s okay, it’s not that expensive.”

Then he started counting all the prices and stuff on his phone and demanding I make the price four dollars cheaper than what it actually was because that’s how he’s calculating it, but he kept rounding DOWN the tax fee, no matter what I did on the calculator. His wife finally stopped him by just pushing him out of the way and paying for the foundation and stuff, but seriously. Petty.
