tbh it bothers me when people reduce watchmen to just "what if superheroes are bad?" like that's obviously part of it but i think it's more pointedly a meditation on nihilism that happens to be about superheroes
#rb#it also. is to some extent. a commentary on the US’ treatment of war as a whole#as well as abt technological innovations and how far being too far#a lot of ppl forget that in watchmen. the US won the vietnam war#and vietnam is an official american state#also that comedian killed the two journalists that would leak watergate#altho i wouldn’t trust alan moore to be able to handle the heavier applications of an alternate history#i still think its like an important part of the comic#its not just ‘what if superheroes were bad’#its ‘what use are superheroes in a society where america gets everything it wants?’#superhero comics do not Exist in the watchmen universe. america has no propaganda to spread#because they Won.
