i feel so sure that it's so important to the plot that people who died can be brought back to life in the dark worlds. surely that's something to do with the knight's goal. the knight must be a holiday, we can almost be certain of that... and rudy isnt doing too hot. i wanna believe he'll be fine, but... it never goes that way, does it? people can be revived from death in the dark world... making the world permanent darkness would save someone from death. someone who would die otherwise...

alternatively, maybe someone's already dead. maybe she died a long time ago... maybe she's getting revived from death by the growing darkness. maybe kris is determined to make that happen...

i don't know. but the fact that a dark world can bring someone back from death itself is very auspicious. and feels like it would be a very strong motivator for someone to want to cover the world in darkness.

the london undertale concert was one of the best days of my life and I need to yell about how good it was in excessive detail ❤️

BEFORE THE SHOW:

just getting to see people of all ages in utdr shirts and cosplays everywhere made me so so happy ;_; seeing how many people brought plushies made me wish I'd brought one of mine too aaaa

while queuing and waiting for the doors to open a couple people started playing instruments! sadly I wasn't close enough to hear them too well but I'm pretty sure I heard spider dance and bonetrousle

at one point someone further in the queue held up a plush of the annoying dog sprite and everyone cheered

after we got in I saw a spamton a. spamton cosplayer on the lower audience level. from the upper level their long white nose really stood out in the dark jghdskjf

while the orchestra didn't play any deltarune music, I did hear acid tunnel of love playing before the show! (plus music from minecraft and I think stardew valley?)

they had merch!! not a lot, literally just a bag and a small poster (which unfortunately seems kind of easy to damage 💔) but I was so happy they had anything for the occasion:

ACT 1:

they showed gameplay on the screen above the orchestra, while the lights behind them would change colour to match! purple for the ruins, blue for snowdin etc

I immediately started crying at once upon a time

heartache was so beautiful

the crowd cheered when sans started playing/appeared onscreen

the gameplay skipped around snowdin a lot and at greater dog I think they just straight up played dogsong through the speakers?? dog music too complex to be replicated by human orchestra...

while playing the shop theme the gameplay initially showed QC's snowdin shop, but halfway through changed to show gerson's shop and the crowd cheered specifically for him

we went from snowdin to undyne (the ominous theme) with no papyrus songs. suspicious...

after waterfall they played bird that carries you across a disproportionately small gap and the crowd went wild cheering for the bird not once but Twice, as the gameplay showed it carry frisk back and forth. deserved

the bird was immediately followed by an insane rendition of dummy!! the conductor was practically dancing around, my favourite from act 1 for sure it was SO good

spear of justice was also incredible

another medium!! the 5th anniversary concert (which I also still love forever) didn't include it so I was so glad to hear it here :']

spider dance was amazing

not only was it's raining somewhere else so pretty but some of the crowd were laughing at sans and toriel's jokes onscreen. cute...

I have no idea how I managed to not fully cry at undertale (the song) but I was definitely teary-eyed by the end

act 1 ended with asgore and holy moly the electric guitar went so hard

ACT 2:

beginning with start menu and gradually building up to the full version was so fun!!

they made us wait for papyrus but my god did they deliver. after the much-awaited bonetrousle they played sans' trombone bit, immediately followed by all the date themes and everyone cheered when papyrus' date outfit was onscreen

alphys got some applause too!! (admittedly less but I'm just glad she got some!!!)

mettaton though... biggest applause yet, rainbow lights on the stage to match the gameplay before the quiz, everyone clapping to the beat of it's showtime. incredible

metal crusher and core were amazing but I don't think anything in my life will ever match the experience of hearing the "OHHHH YES" line at a volume so loud you feel it through your feet and the crowd immediately going wild again for mettaton ex's appearance and death by glamour

I don't know how your best nightmare Didn't give me a headache with how fittingly loud it was but the lights going red and the horns as the warning alarms between phases was so cool

fallen down reprise was lovely and the crowd laughing at the dialogue from that scene made my heart feel full

hopes and dreams!! admittedly my one disappointment is that they didn't play the second half and skipped to his theme, which was wonderful too but save the world would've made me sob

also they named the human 'You' and hyperdeath asriel's dialogue onscreen being "I'm so afraid, You..." was probably funny only to me

loved good night playing along with the final scene of toriel bringing frisk a slice of pie

the end...?

they played song that might play when you fight sans!! never heard an orchestra version of it which was so cool, especially loved the bonetrousle section

obviously they had to end on megalovania and OBVIOUSLY they went as hard as possible with it. incredible rendition that only kept getting better, the conductor literally jumped in the air for the big final beat

I so so desperately hope an official recording of the concert is released on youtube someday. the memory will stick with me forever but I wanna listen to it again and again and for everyone else to be able to hear it too :'] this was literally one of my dreams come true 🌟

reading this now ch3 and ch4 are out hits different. when gaster connects with the player and creates the red soul, did he do the exact same thing back in undertale? his experiment was the connection between the player and the world both times?

undertale theory: Red Souls are unnatural, it’s the Angel’s Power. Chara may have had a Golden Soul

Please read my previous theory post on DT not being the red soul if you haven’t already. tldr; the color gold is repeatedly shown as the color for determination, in the saves, the golden flowers, the heart locket. I ended that post with a discussion on what Red could be, since it’s not determination. I had trouble because it’d have to fit both the pacifist and no-mercy endings equally.

My answer is Red = Power, Gold = Determination. Chara had a Gold Soul that turned into a Red Soul.

Ok, how did I get there? So like, here’s my Tea. SAVE points clearly come in two colors at the very least. The Red soul in UT and DR have the colors gold and white respectively. The first is Determination, the second The Angel’s Power. Why did I say the Angel’s power?

The Official Undertale 10th Anniversary concert has been announced!! undertale10thconcert.com

Scheduled to be held in Osaka, Tokyo, and Yokohama in September and October 2025! No details currently on a digital version, but I'm sure it'll be available to watch at some point.

Funniest detail in the new Deltarune chapters is that if you try to play Megalovania on one of the pianos Toby Fox's sona runs you over with a Little Tikes car and when you wake up you can't play it anymore

so i finished chapter 4, absolutely wild lore drops, the knight, etc etc etc...

but the MOST important lore drop of course is...

The funny thing is that despite the many surface-level similarities between Mettaton Undertale and Tenna Deltarune; both being rectangular, charismatic TV Hosts who subject the Player Characters to many TV-Themed Minigames and a ‘score’ based Sparing Mechanic

And they even have a very similar taste is suits!

On a deeper character/thematic level, they’re actually total opposites.

Mettaton is the Underground’s only celebrity and main source of entertainment, he’s highly watched and highly popular (Well, within the standards of the Underground, it's implied they are just not that many Monsters around). Meanwhile Tenna’s whole thing is that he’s been abandoned and ignored by the whole Dreemurr family. Outcompeted and overshadowed by the many other sources of entertainment in the modern Light World.

And while Tenna is motivated by an obsessive desire to not be abandoned ever again, to keep Toriel and the Fun Gang on his shows forever… One of Mettaton’s biggest flaws is his tendency to abandon those he’s close to. He pretty much cut ties with Shyren and Napstablook when he became a star.

And he’s been growing distant from Alphys as well.

And, actually his whole darn motivation is to abandon the Underground in search of even greater fame on the surface.

His Pacifist Ending is all about him confronting that flaw in himself, understanding how important he is to the Monsters of the Underground and deciding that he should stay so he can keep bringing his brand of entertainment, joy and glamour to the people who needs it.

While Tenna’s Happy Ending is about helping him to get over his obsessive neediness to entertain specifically the Dreemurr family, and realizing he can move on to someone else, to someplace else, who will actually watch him.

On a deeper thematic level... I think you can also talk about how Mettaton is driven by his Dreams, while Tenna seeks Hope.

And also, I always saw Mettaton as representing modernity for the Underground.

Due to his human-fanboyism and fascination with the Surface, Mettaton has ended up creating and/or promoting a lot of aspects of modern human culture in the Underground. Mass media entertainment, merchandise, trademarks, fast-food, minimum-wage retail jobs, unions…

All of these things seem to exist in the Underground primarily or entirely due to Mettaton’s influence.

Every other Boss/Main Character has some kind of ‘official position’ in the Kingdom's traditional power-structure; Sentry, Royal Guard Captain, Royal Scientist, King, Queen, Prince… Mettaton is a creation of the Royal Scientist, but on his own he’s just a rich and famous celebrity. That's kind of a modern concept in it and of itself, since it kinda requires the existence of a mass media culture....

Or hell, just the fact that he’s the one Monster in the game who seems to have no real respect/loyalty for the Monarchy, and is actually working against him…

Both out of his individual sense of morality (he cares for the Humans) but also for the sake of the very modern goal of mass fame.

And of course on the most obvious level he’s a technologically-advanced robot whose ‘zone’ is the most tech-themed part in the game. (Zones? if you wanna count Hotland and the CORE as separate areas. Either way it's true of both when compared to the rest of the Underground.)

And Tenna is obviously the exact opposite of this. He and his Dark World are still kinda tech-themed in the sense that he is a Darkner based on a household electronic device, but he’s still clearly supposed to stand as a vast contrast to the much-more advanced techy-themed Darkners of Cyber City. He’s specifically meant to be themed after outdated and old-fashioned technology

And the concept of Nostalgia.

… In a way, despite Undertale being a very 2010’s game and despite the Underground being established to have 2010's technology such as Social Media… Mettaton's being primarily a TV Star with TV Show theming in most of his encounters is a very 20th century sort of concept. To use the Television as a shorthand for the concept of modernity.

Obviously that works within Undertale because that is a very familiar cultural shorthand and also it does make sense within the Very Particular Technological and Cultural Framework of the Underground… But with Deltarune being both a much newer game and taking place in a world much closer to our own, I guess it makes sense to instead use the TV to symbolize the past, outdated technology and nostalgic yearning.
