i’m having a lot of thoughts rn about how the distinction between animated and live action is mostly a mental construction when it comes to cg-heavy blockbusters and how a cg heavy movie isn’t a bad thing but the air of legitimacy given to “live action” stuff that is basically 100% animated is part of devaluing digital artists and animators in the filmmaking process

Scene from the lovely untangled au by @merinathropp. I love this fic wholeheartedly and can’t wait for it to come back. I found it years ago and always hoped it would continue after it stopped being updated at some point. Then it actually did come back and I was ecstatic.
It is on hiatus at the moment, but I would still suggest anyone who enjoys cassunzel to read it. I especially love that it doesn’t get rid of Eugene, or portrays him as a bad person for the sake of the ship. Everyone is very in character, which I am a sucker for.
I got Tumblr literally for the sake of sharing this lol.

alright, whats the deal with elio? the fact that this film is currently in cinemas, and i have seen zero marketing for this film, to the point where i thought it was coming out next year is super suspicious. like, this doesnt read like ‘we dont have any faith in this film so well do bare minimum marketing’ this reads like ‘we actively do not want people to see this film’ to me
so whats disney burying this time? last time they did this it was strange world, which had a queer poc lead, so its pretty self explanatory why they did that, but i cant immediatly spot anything with elio, so whats the deal? is it one big immigration metaphor? is it secretly super queer? why does it feel like disney doesnt want people watching it?
am i just overthinking everything? probably. but its still feels super suspicious that ive seen less about elio than even strange world, a film disney were actively burying.

LIFE ADVICE FOR YOUR TEENS AND EARLY TWENTIES (and probably beyond but I haven't made it much farther than that so far):
GO OUT BY YOURSELF
LEARN HOW TO NAVIGATE PUBLIC TRANSIT WITH NO SMART PHONE
TAKE ONLINE CLASSES
MAKE PEACE WITH DISAPPOINTING YOUR PARENTS
GO TO THERAPY IF POSSIBLE
FOLLOW AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS FOR NEW TATTOOS AND PIERCINGS
EAT A MEAL BEFORE DRINKING
DON'T MIX DRUGS
IT'S HARD TO BE YOURSELF WHEN YOU DON'T KNOW YOURSELF SO JUST KEEP TRYING NEW THINGS
THROW EVERYTHING AT THE WALL LIKE SPAGHETTI TO SEE WHAT STICKS
YOU WILL DISCOVER YOURSELF THE SAME WAY YOU DISCOVER NEW COFFEE SHOPS AND NEW BANDS
YOU WILL GET THERE
DON'T MAKE A LONG POST IN ALL CAPS BECAUSE YOUR VOICE WILL START TO HURT FROM SHOUTING

i’m so appreciative to suzanne for reframing the rebellion from the original trilogy as a “they saw their moment and took it” type situation and showing us that they’ve been trying, over and over, with so many failed attempts, to break the arena and incite a rebellion for decades. in this current political climate never giving up hope is so essential. haymitch wasn’t the first nor the last, and they kept going even when it seemed completely futile, and that’s what counts, and what ultimately saves them all.

People in the Les Mis fandom being apolitical/centrist is so crazy to me. This story is the reason that I participate in real life activism, it’s what gives me the motivation to keep doing the right thing.
I haven’t read Les Mis fanfiction in years, and a huge reason for that is because of the vagueness of the actual activism in the writing. It’s so easy to tell when the person writing it has no idea what organizing is.
Now is the perfect time to get involved in not just efforts like fighting for immigrant rights in the US or Palestine, but getting involved in your community. The same activist groups in my city that hold protests and critique politicians are also having community potlucks and mutual aid fundraisers. I would LOVE to see that kind of thing in Les Mis fan works, not just Les Amis at some mysterious protest for an unknown cause. Protest is not the only way for revolution.
If anything, getting involved in real life should inspire your writing/creativity and give you more insight on how to write for these characters. You can start at any time.

The American consumer doesn’t actually want trucks and cars that are huge enough that you can’t see a six foot tall person over the hood. They make vehicles that big now to avoid environmental regulations related to engine efficiency
