With sincere sadness WOTB mournes the passing of Benchmade CEO and industry pioneer Les DeAsis. Les was an icon of the blade industry and was the bonifide pillar to the Balisong's success and popularity throughout the U.S. and the world. Through much strife and setbacks Les was able to overcome adversity and succeed the Benchmade brand to the top of the industry. We feel truly blessed that we were able to capture a candid piece of his life. TRIP TWO It’s been a tough but worthwhile week. We were able to raise enough funds and gather donations to fill up TWO Shuttle Vans!!! Too many things to talk about, so many pics and stories. Bottom line is your donations went DIRECTLY to those people who were evacuated, displaced and homeless. No politics, no long holdups, no missing funds or supplies and all in a matter days. Our first drop last week were to the main Evac Center in Santo Tomas and also to visit and help friends from Barangay Balisong. Mang Dado Ona in Ibaan, Mang Teddy in San Juan Alaminos and the Bautista family in Mabini. This week we wanted to target the specific Evac centers throughout Batangas who were low on supplies due to being so remote or close to the crater. As well as some displaced families who were taken into other households which now have to provide to multiple families under one roof. Incredible Thanks and appreciation must go to Maam Liza Atienza Aseron of the Taal school district who has been bravely trekking throughout ground zero every day all her own to identify families and evac centers who were most in need. We specifically targeted those places. Special thanks to our team lead by the tireless Chen Collado and the head of our supply depot Marco Tonio MaLiga and his living room. Ron Carino of Soulciety.org for doubling our contributions, Erika Fern Of Modern Combatives Systems. Alvin Catacutan, Jaren Barredo and Pamana Kali for coming through with 300 much needed N95 masks. Kuya Eder for flying them over. Noriel Botchok Patio and Lito the Old Man for transpo services. Justin Jaso, Leonard Espera and Henry Ching for videography skills and being crazy. Joey Anjao, Ynego Antiporda, the Collado family and Kuya Eddie for putting in work to get these out to Batangas. Day 2 - Shopping and Packing. Whew what a long day but totally worth it. EVAC Center was asking for: Toilet Paper, Sanitary Napkins, Toothpaste, QTips, Soaps, Wet Wipes, Instant Coffee, Noodles and a few basic med supplies. Got em all!!! Organized and repackaged into care packages for families & women. Along with yesterdays items of chips, crackers, noodles, canned goods and WATER, lots & lots of WATER. Much thanks for the hard work Chen Collado, Ate Linda , Kuya Eddie and Nephew Ynigo for the good work. Tomorrow we drive to an EVAC Center in Sto. Tomas, Batangas to link up with a respected contact there for proper distribution. Then we're going to visit Mr. Diosdao Ona, Teddy Agojo, and the Baustita family at their respective evacuation places. This is just the first trip of 3. We got about $1900 in donations and all this was with about $600. Gonna get an assessment while we're in Batangas to prepare for our delivery next week. In the passed 6 years, the Way of the Balisong project has been witness to many fantastic events and people but this one stands out for sure.
