📎 Family: Unexpected – Chapter Fifteen
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Reader
Rating: G
Warnings: Postpartum tenderness, baby’s energy surge (gentle), emotional family bonding
Summary: You name him. Tony and Pepper become godparents. And Nathan Barnes makes his first impression on the world.
---
Chapter Fifteen
You named him Nathan Grant Barnes.
“Nathan,” for Natasha. For the sisterhood. For the strength she gave you when yours nearly broke.
And “Grant,” for Steve — who had always been more than just Bucky’s best friend. Who had shown up, again and again, for the people he loved.
Bucky held him that morning while you rested, your hand never leaving the blanket at Nathan’s side.
“He looks like you,” you whispered, eyelids heavy.
Bucky smiled. “He’s got your heartbeat. That’s what matters.”
Tony and Pepper arrived later that day.
Pepper barely made it through the doorway before her eyes filled with tears. “He’s beautiful,” she whispered, brushing a soft hand across Nathan’s cheek.
Tony stood frozen. His voice — when it came — was quieter than you’d ever heard it.
“This is… real,” he said. “A super soldier baby. In Wakanda. With your face.”
Bucky smirked. “Jealous?”
“Terrified,” Tony replied honestly. “And proud. Mostly that second one.”
You handed Nathan over gently.
Tony cradled him like he was holding the future itself.
And then —
The room flickered.
Just slightly. The light behind Tony pulsed. A soft whine came from the Stark scanner in his jacket pocket.
Wanda’s eyes narrowed — sensing it instantly.
The baby blinked up at Tony with huge, curious eyes.
“He’s syncing,” Wanda murmured. “Energy recognition. Same as with Y/N.”
Tony didn’t flinch. Just held him closer.
“Well,” he said, voice dry, “guess I’ve officially imprinted.”
You laughed, wiping a tear from your cheek. “That settles it.”
Bucky raised a brow. “Settles what?”
You looked at Pepper, who already knew.
“We want you two to be his godparents,” you said. “If you’ll say yes.”
Pepper nodded instantly.
Tony swallowed hard. “Yeah,” he said quietly. “Of course.”
“Godfather Iron Man,” Clint said from the hallway. “There’s a comic book I’d read.”
Tony rolled his eyes. “Just wait until he breaks your car. Or the moon.”
Later that evening, you sat on the porch with Nathan resting against your chest, his small breaths warm through the fabric of your shirt.
Bucky leaned beside you, one arm around your shoulder, the other resting lightly on the baby’s back.
You didn’t say much.
You didn’t need to.
Because this?
This was everything.

📎 Family: Unexpected – Chapter Fourteen
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Reader
Rating: T
Warnings: Labor (non-graphic), emotional intensity, found-family support
Summary: After everything, it begins. With Wanda at your side and the team just outside the door, your son finally comes into the world.
---
Chapter Fourteen
You were almost asleep when it started.
Just a small wave of pressure — lower than usual. Gentle, at first. Rhythmic.
Bucky stirred beside you. “You okay?”
You nodded. “I think… it’s happening.”
He sat up slowly, rubbing sleep from his eyes.
“You sure?”
Another wave rolled through you, deeper this time. And your hand flew to your stomach as the baby shifted low.
“Yeah,” you breathed. “He’s ready.”
Within an hour, the house had quietly filled with the people who mattered most.
Wanda arrived first, barefoot and calm, dressed in a soft wrap robe and carrying a satchel of herbs and tools. She pressed her forehead gently to yours and said, “He’s strong. You’ll both be alright.”
Shuri came in next — all sharp intellect and graceful movement, guiding the midwives from the Wakandan medical unit like it was second nature.
Natasha stood outside your bedroom door with Steve and Clint. Tony paced the hallway with his tablet, running diagnostics on the med tech Shuri had set up, even though no one asked him to.
But you knew it was his way of being there — his hands busy while his heart stayed close.
Early labor lasted through the morning.
Bucky never left your side. Not even once.
He held your hand, whispered calm encouragements, and helped you breathe through each contraction.
“You’re doing perfect,” he murmured.
Every time you felt like giving in, he reminded you that you were safe. That he was here. That your son was almost home.
Hours blurred together.
You labored in bed, on your feet, leaning against Bucky’s chest, your arms locked around his neck while Wanda whispered steady spells of warmth and relief through trembling fingers.
You felt every push like thunder in your bones.
Bucky kissed your forehead between them.
“Almost there,” he whispered. “Just a little more.”
And then — a final rush.
The world narrowed.
Shuri’s voice was calm: “One more.”
You pushed.
And everything stopped.
Then — a cry.
Sharp. New. Alive.
You collapsed back against the pillows, gasping, tears streaming down your face as Bucky pressed a kiss to your damp temple.
Wanda caught him in her arms first, the baby slick and strong, already wiggling with more energy than expected. She wrapped him in a dark cloth and placed him gently against your chest.
Your son.
Tiny fists. Soft whimpering breaths.
A life that had changed everything.
Bucky cupped the back of his head, voice thick.
“Hey, little guy,” he whispered. “You made it.”
Outside, the team stood waiting.
Steve wiped at his eyes before anyone could see. Natasha didn’t even try to hide the tear that slipped down her cheek.
Clint smiled like he was seeing something holy.
Next up, in Chapter Fifteen, we can name the baby (Nathan Grant?), and show his first signs of enhanced energy again — maybe something sparks when someone touches him, or he syncs with Y/N emotionally. Want to go there next?
And Tony?
Tony grinned and whispered, “I hope he breaks everything I ever build.”

📎 Family: Unexpected – Chapter Thirteen
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Reader
Rating: G
Warnings: None — this chapter is pure softness and healing
Summary: In a quiet corner of the world, surrounded by peace, you and Bucky take a vow before your child arrives.
---
Chapter Thirteen
Time slowed down in Wakanda.
The compound was quiet, tucked against a hillside overlooking a lush green valley. Some mornings, you woke to birdsong. Other mornings, it was Bucky humming to himself in the kitchen, trying to make tea without burning the kettle.
You were safe.
And that alone made every breath feel lighter.
One evening, you found him sitting on the porch steps with a small box in his hands.
He opened it without a word — and inside, nestled in soft cloth, was a simple gold ring. Worn with age. Beautiful in its simplicity.
“This was my mother’s,” he said softly. “I’ve kept it all this time. I want you to have it.”
Your heart stopped for a beat.
“You’re asking me to—”
“Marry me?” he finished, finally looking up. “Yeah. If you want to.”
You laughed through your tears. “Of course I do.”
They kept the ceremony small.
Just Steve — flown in for one day, a quiet smile on his face and a folded certificate in his jacket. Shuri stood witness. And so did Wanda, who arrived at sunrise, barefoot and grinning.
You wore a soft cream dress. Bucky wore a clean button-down and his dog tags.
They married you at dusk, beneath a sliver of moonlight, with your hands clasped over your belly and Bucky’s vows whispered like a promise only you were meant to hear.
“I lost everything once,” he said, voice quiet. “And then I found you. You and this baby… you're my future. You’re my family.”
The ring slipped perfectly onto your finger.
And in the stillness that followed, the baby kicked again — a soft nudge that made everyone smile.
Even in silence, he was a part of it.
Your son.
Your husband.
Your home.
And for the first time in a long time, you believed you were going to be okay.

📎 Family: Unexpected – Chapter Twelve
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Reader
Rating: T
Warnings: Escaping surveillance, quiet tension, transition to safe haven
Summary: SHIELD wants control. The team won’t let that happen. And there’s only one place left where you can be truly safe.
---
Chapter Twelve
It happened fast.
One moment, you were in the medbay with Bucky’s arms around you and Wanda shielding the room with a trembling red pulse.
The next, Tony had rerouted every SHIELD camera, Clint was faking exit logs, and Steve was slipping a duffel bag into Bucky’s hands.
“You need to disappear,” Steve said, eyes sharp. “Now.”
Tony didn’t even argue. “There’s only one place off-grid enough for this.”
Wakanda.
You left that night.
Natasha drove you to a secondary jet hangar. Bruce handed over sealed vials of prenatal stabilizers. Wanda kissed your forehead before slipping a protective charm into your jacket pocket.
And then you were airborne.
The jet flew low. Silent. Blacked-out systems.
Bucky held your hand the entire way.
Not as a soldier. Not as an obligation.
As a man who’d already decided he’d go anywhere to keep you safe.
Wakanda welcomed you quietly.
Shuri met the jet with no fanfare, no questions. Just a kind smile and a soft, “You’re safe here.”
The room she gave you was beautiful — wide windows, quiet earth tones, a view of the trees and distant mountains. Bucky didn’t speak for a long time after you arrived.
He just stood at the edge of the room, looking out at the land that had given him back to himself.
And then he turned back to you.
“You’re safe now,” he said.
You nodded. “And him?”
His hand moved gently over your belly. The baby kicked — strong and solid, almost like he knew you were somewhere new.
Somewhere safe.
You didn’t say it out loud, but you both knew…
This would be his home.
This is where he’d be born.

📎 Family: Unexpected – Chapter Eleven
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Reader
Rating: T
Warnings: Interrogation, enhanced energy spike, Braxton Hicks contractions, SHIELD threats
Summary: Sharon gets cornered, the baby’s powers grow stronger, and SHIELD starts making dangerous suggestions.
---
Chapter Eleven
Sharon didn’t flinch.
Not even when Steve shut the conference room door behind her with a heavy click.
Clint leaned back in his chair, arms crossed. “So. Who you working for?”
“Still SHIELD,” Sharon said coolly.
Tony wasn’t buying it. “SHIELD doesn’t plant bugs in medical rooms. Especially not without clearance.”
“I was told to monitor all unusual activity connected to Barnes and the fetus,” she replied smoothly. “That came from high up.”
“Who?” Steve asked, stepping closer. “Give us a name.”
She hesitated — just a blink.
Tony saw it. “She’s hiding something.”
“I’m following orders,” Sharon said, still too calm. “This baby’s power output during the blackout triggered multiple flags. Command wants contingencies in place.”
Clint’s face darkened. “Contingencies like what?”
Silence.
And that was enough of an answer.
---
Meanwhile, in the kitchen, you were gripping the counter with white knuckles, trying to breathe through the sudden tightening across your abdomen.
Bucky was at your side instantly. “What’s wrong?”
“I think…” You gasped, wincing. “Braxton Hicks. It’s like… a test run. They’re not supposed to hurt, but—”
Your knees buckled.
And then it happened.
The lights dimmed. Your phone vibrated off the counter. Every electronic device within six feet surged and popped with a spark.
Wanda came running in first, followed by Bruce and Natasha.
“He’s responding again,” Wanda said, already reaching for your wrist. “He’s amplifying your pain.”
You were crying now, trying to stay upright.
Bucky lifted you carefully into his arms. “She needs rest. Not more tests. Not containment.”
Too late.
Fury was already on the comms.
“I want them isolated,” he said coldly. “That child is a threat until proven otherwise.”
Tony snapped back over the line. “You try isolating her and we’ll all walk.”
Clint added dryly, “Try locking them down and see how far you get with Barnes.”
Steve’s voice cut through like steel. “You’re not taking her.”
Outside the medbay, SHIELD agents had already started assembling.
Inside, the Avengers had formed a wall.
And behind them, you were gripping Bucky’s shirt like your life depended on it.
Because now, it just might.

📎 Family: Unexpected – Chapter Ten
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Reader
Rating: T
Warnings: Surveillance, mild medical anxiety, implied betrayal
Summary: SHIELD wants answers. So does Sharon. And someone’s been listening in where they shouldn’t.
---
Chapter Ten
After the blackout, everything changed.
Security at the compound tightened. More eyes. More questions. More SHIELD agents in places they didn’t belong.
They said it was just protocol.
Tony said it was bullshit.
“Someone’s poking around,” he muttered, scanning the common room with a handheld device. “And they’re not doing it subtly.”
Bucky didn’t let you out of his sight after that.
When Dr. Cho asked you to come in for another scan, you agreed — reluctantly. You trusted her. But the second you stepped into the room, something felt wrong.
She smiled too quickly. Didn’t ask the usual small talk questions. Moved faster than normal.
And every time she looked at you, her eyes flicked toward the far wall.
Bucky noticed.
So did Natasha, who insisted on coming along this time. “Just backup,” she’d said. “In case someone tries anything stupid.”
Halfway through the scan, Tony’s voice buzzed through her comm. Low. Controlled.
“Red Room is compromised.”
Dr. Cho’s hands froze.
You blinked. “What?”
“There’s a listening device in the panel above the vitals monitor,” Tony said. “Sharon Carter’s tech signature. Not SHIELD-issued.”
Bucky moved first.
He was across the room in two strides, grabbing the wall panel and ripping it open with a single, brutal jerk of his metal arm.
Inside: a sleek, unmarked bug. Still active.
Natasha crushed it under her boot without hesitation.
Cho exhaled shakily and sat back. “They told me this room was secure.”
“They lied,” Natasha said flatly.
When you walked out of the medical wing, Sharon was in the hallway.
Leaning against the wall. Arms crossed.
She gave you a pleasant smile. “Good appointment?”
Bucky stepped between you and her without a word.
You didn’t stop him.
Because you weren’t sure what was more terrifying — the fact that she’d been spying on you…
Or the possibility that she wasn’t working alone.

📎 Family: Unexpected – Chapter Nine
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Reader
Rating: T
Warnings: Power surge, mild panic, anxiety spike, implied surveillance
Summary: When your anxiety flares, so does the baby’s power — and the entire compound goes dark.
---
Chapter Nine
You didn’t mean to panic.
It started small — tightness in your chest, a wave of heat up your spine, the familiar tingle of dizziness crawling in.
You were standing in the kitchen with Natasha and Wanda. Bucky had stepped out for a call. And Sharon Carter was just there again, leaning against the counter like she belonged.
You were trying to breathe through it, but your heart was racing. The room felt too loud. Too crowded.
Wanda tilted her head suddenly, her expression going still.
“Something’s—”
The lights went out.
All of them.
The compound went black in a single, synchronized pulse.
Then: silence.
Every monitor. Every scanner. Every hidden surveillance unit tucked into the walls — down.
A second later, emergency backup lighting hummed to life.
Tony’s voice came over the comms. “Okay, who shorted my entire building?”
No one answered.
Because in that moment, every eye turned to you.
Your hands were on your belly. The baby was moving — not just fluttering this time, but shifting with force. Like he was pushing energy out.
Wanda stepped closer, voice calm but urgent. “Y/N, you need to breathe. You’re flooding him with adrenaline.”
“I didn’t mean to—” You gasped, tears rising instantly. “I didn’t do anything.”
Natasha was already moving — securing the doors, making sure no one outside the team got close.
And Bucky?
He burst into the room seconds later, eyes wide, hair windblown from running.
He went straight to you, hands on your arms, grounding you. “Are you okay? Is he—?”
You nodded, breath shaky. “He’s… he’s reacting. I couldn’t stop it.”
“He’s protecting you,” Wanda whispered, eyes glowing faintly. “Even now.”
In the hallway outside, you caught the briefest glimpse of Sharon Carter.
She wasn’t shocked.
She wasn’t scared.
She looked interested.
And that was worse.

📎 Family: Unexpected – Chapter Eight
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Reader
Rating: T
Warnings: Mild tension, early signs of enhancement, SHIELD surveillance, protective team
Summary: The baby’s movements grow stronger — and stranger. Meanwhile, SHIELD tightens their hold, and an old face returns.
Chapter Eight
It started with rhythm.
The baby didn’t just move now — he responded. To music. To voices. To Bucky’s hand when it rested on your stomach at night, still and warm and steady.
“He kicks when you walk into the room,” you said one evening.
Bucky glanced at you over his shoulder. “He does?”
You nodded. “Like he knows.”
The flutters had become stronger, more coordinated. He kicked directly beneath Bucky’s hand, almost like he could feel who was touching him.
Dr. Cho had noticed too.
“The muscle response is weeks ahead,” she murmured during your scan. “And the heartbeat — it syncs. When you’re calm, he’s calm. When you panic—”
She didn’t finish the sentence.
But you already knew.
The baby had started reacting when you were scared. Or upset. Or overwhelmed. Like he could feel it.
And then there was the morning everything in the kitchen short-circuited after you stubbed your toe and let out a curse.
The lights flickered. The coffee maker exploded.
Tony showed up ten minutes later with four portable scanners and a not-so-casual, “Hey, can I borrow your belly for a quick power signature reading?”
You refused.
Bucky glared him out of the room.
That afternoon, the hallway outside your room got suddenly very quiet.
You stepped out and found Steve, Clint, and Natasha standing in a loose triangle — facing Sharon Carter.
“Didn’t know you were back,” Steve said stiffly.
Sharon gave a casual shrug. “Just a short-term reassignment. SHIELD wants more eyes on the compound. Nothing personal.”
But the way her gaze slid to you — then down to your stomach — didn’t feel casual at all.
Bucky appeared at your side a second later, hand brushing the small of your back.
Sharon smiled politely.
Too politely.
Something in your gut twisted.
She didn’t belong here.
And you had the sinking feeling… she knew exactly what she was looking for.

📎 Family: Unexpected – Chapter Seven
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Reader
Rating: G
Warnings: None — soft moment, found family, emotional comfort
Summary: After everything, you finally get a moment to breathe. And the baby makes their presence known.
---
Chapter Seven
The compound had quieted down.
No more medical scans today. No new updates from SHIELD. No looming meetings or whispered conversations about “anomalies.”
Just soft sunlight through the common room windows. A blanket over your legs. And the gentle sound of Wanda turning the pages of a book beside you.
Bucky was in the kitchen with Natasha and Bruce — something about protein shakes and nutrition for enhanced pregnancies. You could hear Tony arguing faintly in the background about sugar content.
It was peaceful. For once.
You closed your eyes and leaned your head back, breathing slow.
And then —
You felt it.
A flutter. Like a bubble rising inside your stomach. Gentle, barely there, but unmistakable.
Your eyes flew open.
Wanda looked up at you instantly, her hand already reaching for your wrist.
“Did you feel it?” she whispered.
“I—” You blinked. “I think that was him. I think he just moved.”
You both stared at your belly in stunned silence.
Then Wanda smiled. “He’s getting stronger.”
A few moments later, Bucky walked back into the room with a cup of tea for you. He glanced between you and Wanda, picking up on the shift instantly.
“What happened?”
You took his hand, placed it low on your stomach.
“Feel.”
He waited, still and patient — and then his fingers twitched when the next little flutter passed beneath them.
Bucky’s eyes widened.
“Was that—?”
You nodded, smiling through the tears you didn’t realize were forming. “Yeah. That was him.”
He didn’t speak. Just leaned forward, resting his forehead gently against yours, and stayed there for a long, quiet minute.
Natasha walked in, paused in the doorway — then turned around and walked back out without a word.
Some moments deserved to stay uninterrupted.

📎 Family: Unexpected – Chapter Six
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Reader
Rating: T
Warnings: Emotional vulnerability, SHIELD involvement, early foreshadowing of enhanced abilities
Summary: The team starts stepping in — some to comfort, some to protect, and some to quiet investigating.
---
Chapter Six
The compound wasn’t quiet anymore.
It seemed like everywhere you turned, someone from the team was watching you — in the way that meant they were trying not to watch you. Natasha started showing up at random times with snacks or tea, sliding onto the couch beside you like it was normal.
“You’re glowing,” she said flatly one afternoon, handing you a glass of cold water.
“I’m sweating,” you replied, resting your head back against the cushions.
“Same thing,” she muttered.
She didn’t ask a lot of questions. Just stayed nearby — sharp eyes flicking toward the door every time someone walked past.
And you knew what that meant.
She was watching for threats.
Even inside the compound.
Wanda dropped by too — sometimes just to sit and read in the same room. She didn’t say much at first, but her presence was oddly calming. Like she was shielding you from something you couldn’t see.
“I can feel him,” she murmured one evening, eyes still on the page in her hands.
You glanced over. “Who?”
“The baby,” she said. “His energy is… strange. Quiet. But bright.”
You weren’t sure how to respond to that.
She looked up and offered a small smile. “It’s not bad. Just different.”
Meanwhile, across the compound, Bucky was pacing.
“I don’t know what to do,” he said, stopping in front of Steve in the training room. “What if something happens to her? What if the serum passed down? What if—”
Steve held up a hand. “Breathe.”
Bucky stopped pacing, jaw tight.
Clint leaned against the wall, arms crossed. “You mean to tell me you’re worried this baby’s gonna be enhanced?”
Bucky shot him a look. “You heard Cho. She said his heartbeat was fast. Too fast. His muscles are—”
“Yeah, yeah,” Tony cut in, sipping a green smoothie that looked like it belonged in a swamp. “But we don’t even know what’s possible. We don’t have a rulebook for what happens when a super soldier knocks someone up.”
Steve gave Tony a look.
Tony shrugged. “What? It’s true.”
“I’m not worried about his powers,” Bucky muttered. “I’m worried about SHIELD.”
That shut them all up.
Because it wasn’t just paranoia.
They’d already started asking questions.
Scans. Bloodwork. Security clearances.
Y/N had noticed the tension, even if no one had said it out loud yet.
And Bucky was starting to realize…
They weren’t going to get through this without a fight.

Family: Unexpected – Chapter Five
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Reader
Rating: T
Warnings: Pregnancy complications (light nausea), emotional distress, foreshadowing
Summary: Bucky shows up for your next appointment — and something unexpected happens during the tests.
---
Chapter Five
You really thought you'd be okay.
The nausea had eased a little that morning. You'd actually managed to eat half a piece of toast, which felt like a miracle, and Bucky had driven you to the appointment in mostly comfortable silence. He even carried your bag, held the elevator, opened the door like none of this was strange.
But now, sitting in the exam room with the lights low and wires hooked up for monitoring, your stomach was twisting again.
"You doing okay?" Bucky asked softly, glancing at you from the chair by the table.
You nodded, but it was a lie.
One of the machines beeped sharply, and Dr. Cho looked up from the monitor.
“Heartbeat looks strong,” she said, frowning just slightly. “But fast. A little faster than I’d expect at this stage.”
You shifted uncomfortably, and then—
You gagged.
Hard.
“Oh no—” you gasped, hand flying to your mouth.
Bucky was on his feet in an instant, grabbing the small basin the nurse had set out just in case. You barely managed to reach it before the wave hit you.
Dr. Cho signaled for the monitor to be paused, her calm expression unchanged.
“Okay,” she said gently. “That’s alright. Let’s take a minute.”
You leaned back on the table after, flushed and shaky.
“Sorry,” you mumbled, voice raw.
“It happens,” she said. “But I want to do another scan next week. Just to be cautious.”
Bucky hadn’t sat back down. He stood at your side, tense, jaw set tight.
“What does that mean?” he asked. “Is something wrong?”
Dr. Cho hesitated.
“Not wrong,” she said slowly. “Just… unusual.”
You and Bucky shared a glance.
She didn’t elaborate. Not yet.
But the look on her face said she was holding something back.
Something big.
---
Let me know when you're ready for Chapter Six — we can move into the heartbeat anomaly, and maybe Natasha or Steve noticing something feels… off.

Family: Unexpected – Chapter Four
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Reader
Rating: T
Warnings: Morning sickness, soft domestic Bucky, emotional vulnerability
Summary: The morning sickness gets worse — but Bucky doesn’t stay distant.
Chapter Four
The morning sickness had become unbearable.
You hadn’t kept anything down in two days, and standing at the kitchen counter, you were gripping the edge of the sink like it might hold you up. Your skin was clammy. Your knees weak. And the thought of food made your stomach turn.
You didn’t hear him come in at first.
But then you heard boots — soft steps behind you — and when you glanced over your shoulder, he was there.
Bucky stood in the doorway, unsure, watching you quietly.
“You okay?” he asked.
You shook your head, swallowing hard.
“Do you need—”
You turned and barely made it to the sink in time. He was behind you before you could think, one hand gently holding your hair back, the other rubbing slow, careful circles between your shoulder blades.
“It’s been like this all day?” he asked, voice low.
You nodded, resting your arm against the cold porcelain. “I can’t even look at food. Everything makes me gag.”
“You should’ve told me it was this bad.”
You wiped your mouth, exhausted. “It’s not your job.”
“Maybe not,” he said quietly. “But I’m still here.”
You finally turned to look at him.
His expression was unreadable. Sad, maybe. Guilty. But his hands were gentle, his presence grounding.
You eased into a chair while he poured water into a glass and handed it to you.
You sipped slowly, trying not to let it come back up.
“Have you seen your doctor?” he asked after a beat.
You nodded. “I have another appointment soon. Dr. Cho offered to run extra scans. Just to be safe.”
He sat down across from you.
“I want to go,” he said.
You blinked at him. “To the appointment?”
He nodded. “If you’ll let me.”
You stared at him, your throat tight. “I thought you were avoiding me.”
“I was… overwhelmed,” he admitted. “I didn’t know what to say. I still don’t.”
You didn’t respond, but the silence between you felt less like a wall and more like… a pause.
After a moment, Bucky stood and started rummaging through the cabinets.
“What are you doing?” you asked.
“Finding crackers. Ginger tea. Something — anything — you’ll actually keep down.”
You blinked hard, your eyes stinging for no good reason.
He didn’t say he was sorry.
He didn’t say he was ready.
But for now, he was here.
Let me know when you're ready to move on to Chapter Five, which can include:
And that was something.

Chapter Three
He sat beside you in the small exam room.
Silent, tense, but there.
Your heart was racing so hard it made your nausea worse. You were trying to stay still, to keep your breath steady, but the pressure of everything — the pregnancy, the exam, Bucky’s presence — it all felt like too much.
He noticed.
“Breathe,” Bucky said softly, glancing over at you. “Just breathe.”
You nodded but didn’t speak.
When the doctor walked in, Bucky stood up and offered a hand immediately. Polite. Guarded.
They asked the usual questions. You answered in a daze. Dates. Symptoms. Any previous pregnancies.
You shook your head.
When the ultrasound started, you held your breath.
And then — there it was. The flicker of a heartbeat. The soft, fast rhythm of a life already growing inside you.
You didn’t even realize you were crying until Bucky reached out and held your hand.
He didn’t say anything. Didn’t need to.
Because his thumb brushed your knuckles like he already understood something had changed.
