Exhibition 15'12'23
During the exhibition I showed my investigation board with research. Which included online questionnaire's questioning women of all ages questions regarding my topic. On the table, connected by wool used on the board you find my case statement which showcases my essay, more physical questionnaire's I handed out and actual interviews I undertook with important women. As my final visual, I made the one and only: Wrinkle Cream! In the drawer you could find some try outs and concepts regarding the wrinkle cream and on the table there was a little notebook for people to help me further in this process towards my graduation project with more clue's or information.
It was lovely to showcase my hard work and discuss with viewee's.

Brainwashed: Sex-Camera-Power

The documentary was amazing. Very in-depth and clear in explanation. Nina Menkes has built a great structure to explain the male gaze and how perspectives work in movies and TV.
What absolutely blew my mind is the fact that we watch movies and series, through the perspective of who made it. Which is dominated by men in that workfield. So you watch it through the editor, the camera man, the director, the producer and after all, the writer. After watching the docu we had a very nice conversation inside the small cinema room. They invited a man and a women who are both working in this field. Sadly I did not remember their names. It opened up an honest and transparant conversation. Jacqueline Blom (who I interviewed) organises this with her platform Point Of VieW every (other?) month in ketelhuis Amsterdam. I for sure will be there the next time on January 7th.

Field research, but very fun!
youtube
This Sunday the 26th I'm going to see this documentary in the Ketelhuis in Amsterdam. Jacqueline Blom (one of my amazing interviewees) invited me to come and see it. She built a platform named Point of VieW. This platform goes hand in hand with my topic. Which is very much amazing! And they worked on this documentary.

Am I gonna be the influencer now?
The 10th of october I decided to experiment with a silly idea I had in mind. A visual where you'd see lip filler next to an urn. Kind of morbid if I do say so myself. This idea came up when chatting with peers in class when we were joking around about my topic. As curious as I am I wanted to try and see if I could translate this idea out of my head into reality. I vlogged the whole thing and am editing this vlog as we speak. As a social experiment I want to vlog more and post it on tiktok to see if I can reach a certain audience and make a change.. perhaps?

Finally.. My notes

I made notes and sketches, but forgot to post them when I made them so here they are.. my notes! These were sketches for the midterm presentation and how I was planning on visualizing the posters + maybe already a prototype for a filter that I might make for the exhibition (???)

Mid term posters

For my posters I decided to use an A1 size corkboard. I really wanted to tell a story during the midterm presentations and decided to shy away from normal paper.
I present my project in an investigation style. Since I believe, shaming women for aging should be seen as a crime.
On this board you can see the evidence presented as my research, research brief and research questions. You can also find my inspiration.
Next are the victims. These gorgeous women including myself, all different ages have been facing this problem. When looking closely you can see their best before dates on their forehead. This is inspired by this one pixilated picture I found online of an old lady with the same type of text edited on her forehead. Since us women kind of have an expire date. Especially the older women in the workfield find struggle getting a job based on age.
I wanted to show my most recent findings through this board and collection of visuals. There is more, but that will be posted on my tumblr page. I’ve done a questionnaire and I’m planning on real life interviews with influencers. I also want to make more of my own visual work. My next step is making a filter that calculates your ‘best before’ date as a women, based of off your birthday.
The dates that I have used in the edited pictures is based of off when the ladies were or are going to turn, 30. Having spoken to quite some women, 30 was the number that came back when I asked when they think they peak as a women.
I finally decided on some research questions that I hope will help me get more specific within this topic and my work. Now I struggle with this topic being quite broad and I’m not sure what I want to specify on. What I do know is that in the core of this topic I find the mental consequences very important and would love to dive deeper into that.
