My name's Casey. I am 23 years old, have osteosarcoma, and have had my entire right leg amputated. I'm awkward, quiet, and snarky and swear a lot.

Mandy again. I forgot to update Tumblr when it happened because I suck. But Casey passed away early in the morning on Monday. She wasn't in pain at the end, and got to die at home, with her pets around her. I think I'm going to leave her tumblr active, at least for awhile. I want to try to put together a book of her writing; she wrote nonstop. But I mean, I'm a little depressed? So I may not actually get around to it. But if I do, I'll post about it here.

This is Casey's sister, Mandy, updating for Casey. She hasn't updated in awhile, because her health went downhill really fucking fast. When her cancer decides to do shit, it doesn't fuck around. She was fine 2 weeks ago (well, fine for her), and she is now in her last few hours. Her hospice nurse says 24-72 hours, but I think it's going to be on the lower end of that. She was in a lot of pain this morning, but was fighting her medication until I got out here (because she's a little heartbreaker). She's sleeping now, and may or may not wake up. But she's comfortable now, and asleep.
I will update again when it's over. Until then, here's a picture of Casey from her last big outing 2 weeks ago, when we went to a local petting zoo/rescue farm and got to pet big cats.

This is Casey being motherfucking adorable, and petting Annie, a 20 something year old cougar. (Cougars usually only live to 15ish in captivity.)

Quote
If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also
Matt 5:39
This specifically refers to a hand striking the side of a person’s face, tells quite a different story when placed in it’s proper historical context. In Jesus’s time, striking someone of a lower class ( a servant) with the back of the hand was used to assert authority and dominance. If the persecuted person “turned the other cheek,” the discipliner was faced with a dilemma. The left hand was used for unclean purposes, so a back-hand strike on the opposite cheek would not be performed. Another alternative would be a slap with the open hand as a challenge or to punch the person, but this was seen as a statement of equality. Thus, by turning the other cheek the persecuted was in effect putting an end to the behavior or if the slapping continued the person would lawfully be deemed equal and have to be released as a servant/slave.

I need someone to preach this. I’ll have to use it in some spoken word at church.

Jesus said slap that hoe back.

Yay, sources! I heard this a while ago but didn’t have any evidence to go on. I’m so glad. That passage isn’t about being nice to your oppressors, turning the other cheek isn’t an act of passivity. It’s about turning the tables and taking back dignity. It’s about shaming those who would oppress. People don’t seem to get that Jesus wasn’t a ‘bear your yoke quietly’ kind of guy. He was an agitator and a radical, and these kind of readings inspire me so much to fight, not just people on the street but people in the church who would have us accept their toxic teachings and ask for more.

Yeah, shit like this? Just proves how much those in power deliberately warp shit to their benefit. They twist any sort of resistance to the status quo to be utterly useless and then sneak it into everything as subtle propaganda. Like how “violence is never the answer” and “an eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind” are the twisted versions that deprive folks of justice. No revolution was truly 100% bloodless, tho history can be rewritten to erase that fact, or skew it to serve as fear-mongering bullshit.

I will reblog ever time it’s on my dash. This is important.

When white western men condemn muslim men for misogyny, they’re not doing it because they give a fuck about women, because if they did they’d start by addressing the sexism they perpetuate personally. They don’t give a fuck about women, they want an excuse to be racist.

I love how the whole “babies from bone marrow” thing is making people go “this makes men unnecessary” and men are getting so upset
it’s really fucking annoying to be deemed unnecessary and reduced to something like whether or not you can procreate
isn’t it

Sealed with a kiss
This discovery about a secret Viking message is special - and will put a big smile on your face. For years researchers have tried to crack a Viking rune alphabet known as Jötunvillur. It is found in some 80 inscriptions, including the one above, which dates from the 11th or 12th century. Recently the news broke that a runologist in Norway was successful. It turns out that you had to replace the rune character with the last letter of the sound it produced. So the rune for “f”, which was pronounced like “fe”, represented an “e”. And so researchers were able to decode the 900-year-old message on the piece of wood above, which turned out to be - wait for it… - “Kiss me”! It gets better, however. It turns out that coding and decoding such messages was a playful game, a leisure activity. This is clear from the fact that some of the inscriptions invite the reader to solve the code, stating for example “Interpret these runes.” This, of course, makes the discovery of the “Kiss me” message even more sensational. The kiss was no doubt the reward for the successful individual who cracked this particular message. Two Viking lovers entertaining themselves with a playful coding game - that came with a delightful climax. Awesome.
More information: this Norwegian article originally reported the story, which is also the source of the image (made by Jonas Nordby, the researcher who cracked the code). I picked up the story from the invaluable Medievalists blog (here).
