so my dad's car insurance called me today and was like hey we're trying to get a hold of this dude and found your name and thought y'all might be related (i have an incredibly uncommon surname). so I was like yeah that's my dad. can you tell me what he did this time

and i could tell she wasn't supposed to tell me, but heard the absolute exasperation in my voice and just knew i was his child. she described that there was "a fender bender, and an altercation, in a restaurant parking lot" and that his lawyer was trying to get a hold of him to tell him his court summons had been waived

my parents own a restaurant so I figured it was their parking lot but upon asking my mom i have learned

It's really concerning how a lot of "leftists" on here don't even understand the importance of collecting all seven chaos emeralds for achieving socialism. That being said

Languages similar to ones you already speak

Languages you have a lot of motivation to learn

Languages that have a lot of resources and media to watch and/or listen to and/or read

So, if you’re reading this with relative ease (aka you speak English fluently) probably French or Spanish

Do whatever you want though idk

Don’t just choose a language based on how easy it is

Unless that’s what it takes to keep you motivated idk

Go learn Frisian or something

There once was a scotsman who ended up gambling with the fae, who were thrilled, as most people are too smart to agree to that. When he said he had nothing to gamble that they would want, they reassured that he does - the life force of mortals is so rare, it's delicious. When he was reluctant, the fae suggested that he wouldn't have to play his entire life all at once. He could divide it, put them into little tarts for tokens, for example. With a flourish of their hand, one of them manifested ten little berry tarts out of nowhere.

The fae laughed when the man told them that he didn't want to know how much life he had left, as it was divided into ten between the tiny little pies. And so he began playing dice. And losing. Piece by piece, he kept losing as the tittering fae kept collecting the little treats spiced with cuts of his remaining lifespan, their mouths watering. In the end, nine were divided between the fae, and the man only had one left.

But since gambling with a mortal was such a rare joy, the fae didn't want to let him quit, so one of them offered him one last bet: double or nothing - he would either lose the final piece, or win back not only his own lifespan, but gain it back double. Looking at the last token he had to play, the scotsman thought sullenly:

my personal perspective: to hell with what artists give permisison to be done with their work. you are free to criticize, to rail against, to disparage uses of your work you think are wrong, or facile -- just as cervantes excoriated shoddy third-party sequels in the second part of don quixote -- but if you wish to take preventative measures, to enforce your disapproval upon potential remixers and reusers, i think your sophomoric preciousness about your work makes you an enemy of everything i value about art and culture. you are fighting for a world without cross, without the low end theory, without garfield minus garfield or lasagna cat, without centos or cutups or blackout poetry, without video game modding, without plunderphonics or youtube poop or collage. anne rice's world, a world immeasurably poorer with a dead culture pinned to a board and preserved by immersion in the logics of capital
