i went to a thrift store today and found a goldmine of yarn and notions, was genuinely a great day because i got dpns and super small crochet hooks and lace yarn and an embroidery kit and darning yarn and gray thread and buttons, all of which would probably be like less than 5 dollars combined. also got high school musical 2 extended on bluray so. excited to watch that

For the most part, I have always been a pretty monogamous knitter. When I was younger, it was because I could really afford one project at a time. (I mainly knitted sweaters back then.) Now, it's because knitting is one of the few things that I can do to clear my mind and not ruminate on things.
In any case, making good progress on Sleeping Satellite shawl. It feels like I just started it.

I am embroidering an old kitchen towel of my great grand mother with mine and my partner's initial. She embroidered it herself with the initials of her husband and hers, probably almost a hundred years ago.
It's making me a teeny tiny bit emotional, because i remember her quite a bit and i loved her, so she was a real person to me, and i am doing the same gesture than her, facing the same difficulties as her with the fabric, but i have a wildy different life from hers.

My final skein for Tour de Fleece this year. Hushed Stillness by Three Waters Farm on BFL/Silk, I actually ran this one through a yardage meeter when I was winding it off the bobbin and it was about 503 yards pre-wash.

One day I will make a scarf in gay male pride flag colours
And it will have some kind of panelled element or attached border (a tablet-woven band, perhaps)
Because the real purpose of the scarf is as an opportunity to join pieces using knotted insertion stitch
More traditionally known as
Faggoting

still thinking about the brainrot that fast fashion has caused in people, like i made this pair of pants that are black and white with a cool flowery design, and an acquaintance saw them and said "wow i'd pay like 20 dollars for you to make me a pair" and i could barely think with how utterly horrified i was at that; i told them that 20 dollars wouldn't even cover the materials, let alone the hours of work that went into cutting, sewing, ironing, hemming, altering, etc. they just had this look on their face when i told them that, when i said i wouldn't make them a pair for even 100 dollars because that was still way too low of an amount, a look that said "you're crazy for thinking that those cost 100 dollars" and maybe i am crazy but holy shit, 20 dollars for a pair of handmade, durable, lined pants fitted specifically to your measurements? 20 dollars for upwards of 60 hours of work? 20 dollars for several yards of high-quality fabric, thread, and buttons? 20 dollars???

So, ive been trying to use my espinner again. It has the same problems its always had, altho i also suspect i am burning out the motor bc I have to have the speed at the highest setting basically from the get go. It needs to be replaced, but then as long as I can sit up in my wheelchair and my fingers work, I should be able to spin. I might even be able to stream ? Unclear. But I did manage to spin up 2 bobbins of cotton, I just couldn't control the thickness at all with the speed, takeup, and adjustment issues. But done is better than not done, so I'll take it.
Anyway, i also very luckily got a reimbursement for my sick days that ive been trying to get for literally 5 months, which was more than enough to buy the eew 6.0 and an extra set of bobbins. Im so happy !
I still dont know what im going to do about processing all my dyed fleeces though. I can do a small amount of processing by hand--i might be able to process the remainder of my cotton, for example--but im sure as hell not able to process 20 fleeces by hand, nor do I know anyone who could do that for me (who does, honestly). The only option i can think of is an electric drum carder (i can't use a manual one because trying to use the handle for even 1 fleece sounds like a recipe for injury, immediately) which sadly none of the guilds here rent out and which i also can't find online used.
The cheapest one i could find was about $1000 USD, not including shipping. If I saved up a while i could afford it (or if i was stupid with credit cards, which im desperately trying to avoid). But even if I could buy it today im not sure i should. I have no way to know how long i will be able to keep spinning--months ? Years ?--and I have other expensive things that realistically should come first, like a bed that is not a futon on the floor that makes me fall almost every time I lie down or stand up.
So. Im still thinking about everything. But at least once the 6.0 arrives i can spin the backlog of prepared fibers and try to figure out what to do.

Aaaand both ribbons are now done and neatly finished with only three days to spare! Whoopwhoop!
I am kinda proud of both although I like the right ribbon better. The left one has an unfortunate tendency to bubble a bit which I think is because it involved 16 turns forward and back. We'll see if it settles a bit over time and otherwhise I will see what a quick press of the iron will do...
Also for those that it interests here is how they will look when braided in.

Do I have long hair? Yes. Did I sneak in some more length with the ribbons? Also yes...

I was debating between two yarns… same colorway, same dye lot batch, just natural variation
I went with the one on the left as it made me think of peaches!!!

Inordinately pleased with this one, because both sides are pretty. Made it into a lanyard for a friend. Pattern is called "garm" by lisoesac on twisted threads.
