Smart ways to manage home based workers
Managing people that are based at home is tough, keeping in contact and making sure people feel part of a team is one way to ensure workers stay motivated.  Software such as Webroster.net can help to manage remote worker schedules but also enables you to share information easily by giving staff access to a Staff Portal.  The Staff Portal enables them to access their weekly schedules online and enables the team to take ownership of their working day. Giving staff access to the right tools and software to do their jobs remotely is key to having a happy and motivated team.

Do you manage a remote workforce?
If you manage a team of home carers or other field based workers take a minute to consider our questions about managing a remote workforce:
1. Are your field based carers where they should be, when they should?
Check that a member of staff has arrived at their appointment at the correct time using ECM (Electronic Call Monitoring).  Carers can log in and out of visits using their mobile phone and managers can be alerted when log in /out information does not match the planned roster.
2. Are your remote workers reflecting your company ethos?
Do your staff represent your business in the right way?
3. How good is your communication with field based workers?
Don't let field based workers feel out of the loop.
4. Do you have the evidence to show that services were carried out where and when they were supposed to be?
Use ECM (Electronic Call Monitoring) to see whether carers have logged in and out of visits and provide an activity log report if necessary.
5. Do you know exactly where your team of home carers is right now?
Using tools such as GPS tracking you can quickly and easily see exactly where your remote workforce team are by tracking their location on a mobile phone. This may feel a bit ‘big brother’ but it can help you to call on the nearest member of staff in a crisis situation.
