It's very common for us to come across blocked downpipes at the ground level. Tree and bush roots can easily make their way into the drains under ground. Leaves and moss then get trapped around these roots giving the roots a source of nutrients and soil to flourish! This drain is just a regular 60mm downpipe under ground which is really not suitable. 100mm soil pipe should be used below ground. When we gently started pulling on this drain snake we weren't expecting it to be quite so long! They don't always come out so easily so to avoid things getting this bad it's important to get your gutters checked and cleaned regularly...

Here is a great example of why NOT to install 'gutter guards'. This photo is actually of the UNDERSIDE of the gutter guard. So all that mud and roots from the grass is in the gutter and the gutter guard is preventing the gutter from being cleared.
They don't work.

There's a lot of sycamore seedlings sprouting in the gutters early this year as can be seen at this property in Fetcham. Don't delay, get your gutters cleared today before you have a tree growing in your gutters!

What is this we found while gutter cleaning...
Look at what we found growing in a customers gutter in Bookham today. It was well hidden behind a bush so it's understandable that it wasn't noticed until we inspected the gutters. How long had it been growing? Due to the regular supply of water running through the gutters this monster could thrive...
