Then he asked where I got it if SpongeBob’s underwater so I told him I wore a helmet like Sandy and stole it from SpongeBob when he slept, and without missing a beat he goes “That’s identity fraud”

Do you have any guesses as to why the mustard gas sent Ciel into a ptsd mental breakdown that lasted for weeks until Sebastian had to scare him out of it?

I'm not very knowledgeable on the side effects of deadly gasses, but I think it may cause delirium during recovery?

The main point from a logic side seems to be how triggering the healing process to recover from the mustard gas was. Ciel had to be vulnerable, reminded of how he and the other children were force fed and then every boundary he had was broken. It was a recipe for a mental breakdown and then add on top of that some really nasty neurological side effects from a deadly gas and you pretty much got that.

The reason Sebastian nearly eating him seems to snap him out of it is because he's basically snapped back to reality by being reminded that Sebastian is his only chance to keep going and basically his anchor. I suppose you could say emotional support? Even though that emotional support is more like "I have an indestructible weapon and I'm living for myself so I can kill whoever hurts me."
