Summary: Kissing Eddie for the first time in the rain.
wc: 667
A/N: I combined this with another blurb request "was that your first kiss?" thank you for requesting!! Bestie I'd love to kiss him in the rain too... fuck! ♡
Soft oldies music played overhead in the lonely diner, Edward sat at his favorite spot at the counter. He loved that spot for several reasons, but mainly because you had to pass by him every time you'd go up to the window to grab plates.
He loved this routine he'd developed over the past few months. After work, he'd come to the diner, order the same thing, and work in one of the "hard" crossword books you gifted him after learning about his obsession with puzzles and riddles, "Did I stump you yet?" you giggled from the other side of the cold counter.
He looked up at you through his lashes, seeing your sly smile through the fog of his glasses, "No," he quietly answered, his long fingers stroking the completed page.
You huffed playfully and rested your elbows on the counter, your eyes meeting his skittish ones, "I'll get you one day, Eddie."
I hope so, he thought as he looked back down at the paper, pinky finger purposely covering the scribbled heart in the corner. You noticed how jittery his hand had become; it wasn't from all the caffeine you had poured into the ceramic cup. Leaning in a little further, you were about to speak, but the roar of rain crashing down on the building stopped you.
With a giddy gasp, you stood up straight to look out the window at the rain that made pavement glow all the florescent colors of Gotham. "It's raining!" you cheered, taking off your apron and hurrying around the counter. "Eddie come with me! Come on before it's over!"
The man followed you like a puppy; he was reluctant, but who else would protect you from the people that lurked in the cold streets.
The freezing rain felt so refreshing, washing away the stale diner air. Edward just admired you from the curb, watching you absentmindedly twirling in the empty street. He committed it to memory. He knew he'd fall asleep with it on loop; your smile, damp clothes, hair sticking to your neck, your breathy giggles.
You stopped mid-twirl, panting as you saw him standing underneath the awning. You wanted him out here with you, out of the shell he placed himself in. Plus you'd always wanted to see him drenched. "Come on, Eds," you sang as you took his hands, pulling him out into the storm. Edward suddenly became hyper-aware of the blush on his cheeks, the cold rain practically zizzling on his skin.
His face scrunched at the large waterdrops landing on his face, struggling to keep his eyes open and focused on you. "I-is this ok?" he asked you nervously, his voice struggling to be heard over the rain.
But you heard his smooth voice just fine. Seeing him like this, how willing we were to come out in a rainstorm sent a wave of confidence through you. "Riddle me this," you began as you stepped closer to him, "what's red, cute, and doesn't have an umbrella?"
His brain plugged in all the clues but he came up utterly clueless. "I don't know," he muttered.
You smiled and pressed your hands to the sides of his face, "You," you gave him the answer before crashing your lips to his. His green eyes opened wide, his shakey hands afraid to touch you.
You pulled back, cheery look faltering as you saw him red as a tomato and his lips slightly parted like he was trying to say something. "Was that your first kiss, Eddie?"
He nodded slowly, eyes never leaving you. Oh fuck, you thought in a panic, embarrassed with yourself that you took away something so precious. You didn't even ask! "I-I'm so sorry. I don't know why I did that," you rushed your apology.
The apology came to a halt as his nose brushed against yours shyly. Fog-covered eyes cautiously searched for your approval before he kissed you again, his hands placed nicely over yours. "I told you I'd stump you."
