Inspection of Disc to blade joints using Magentic Particles inspection. The magnetic particles used above lies in the category of fluorescent, which can be seen colored in the above picture. The above technique is used in identification of surface related cracks and openings and can be applied on ferromagnetic materials only that shows magnetic properties.
In above picture it has been used to show the surface cracks and opening on the disc to blade joints. The joints are made with suitable welding process. In this process the particles or fluorescent fillings  are coated on the joint, after which the materials is get magnetized. Due to magnetization the fillings get accumulated on the openings.

Another best visual on Pipe to flange joint welding of a nozzle. As it is stated in previous visual that a nozzle is a vital component of a pressure vessel and its joining accounts significant considerations during internal, external and on-stream weld inspection.  The above picture  shows the stainless steel TIG welding of  Pipe to flange joint. TIG welding is the best suitable arc method for the joining of stainless steel family. Though the process is comparatively slower but the manufactures prefer it on steel welding due to a wide range of exceptional features and benefits.
For those who are learning to weld in schools, I encourage to seek more and more knowledge in pressure welding. Due to ever increasing demand in oil and gas company market, the manufacturers always need manpower on big scale. There are several range of welding and welding related jobs and opportunities that you people can avail. Wishes

Flanges are the major components of nozzles, which are welded to the pipe or other parts of nozzle. There are several types of flanges, based on their working in a pressure vessel.
The most suitable joining of flange to a pipe, is the use of arc welding process. Probably all kinds of arc welding processes are being implemented on flange joining. The processes include; TIG Tungsten inert gas, FCAW flux core arc, MIG/ MAG metal inert or active gas, SMAW (also known as stick welding).
Competitive welders are required to weld these type of joint who are qualified and authorized to do circumferential welding on complicated structures like pipe to flange joint in nozzle. The above picture is about the TIG welding of stainless steel type pipe to flange joint, containing the beautiful welding cups. don’t forget to share it with your friends.

This is how friction principles work for welding of pipe. There are several friction welding techniques which are being utilized in manufacturing/construction industries, to join several range of materials.
Friction welding is categorized by working principle of equipment and materials to be joined. Types of Friction Welding involves
Spin Friction Welding
Linear Friction Welding
Friction Surfacing
Vibration Friction
Orbital Friction Welding
These types are different from each other on the basis of movement of equipment and material (pipe, plate) to be joined. Moreover there is another technique which is a popular joining technique to produce high quality and strong weld joints.
Friction Stir Welding:
In this type, a tool is allowed to move along the joint line, making the joint material soft and fused by its rotational movement. A constant pressure is applied on the lateral sides of material (pipe or plate pieces) until the joint gets fully fused.
Friction stir welding has some advantageous features over arc welding process. It requires no, gas shield, no post weld heat treatment and no additional filler metal. FSW also produces quality welds in wide range of non-ferrous materials.

Another visual on pipeline installation. The process of pipeline installation is a bit difference from pipe welding which is often performed in shops. Several welding techniques has been developed for fabrication and manufacturing of static equipment and structures. Welding with downhill progression is one popular technique used for installation of long pipelines. Joint type used for this process is Butt joint in which two pipe pieces are butted each other.
In this case weld deposition rate is a bit higher than ordinary shop welds.  Stick welding is best process to produce pipeline welds.
Joint Preparation:
In this process two pipe pieces are brought together with the help of clamps and then two welders are required to make welds from either sides.
As stick process (also named as shield metal arc welding), is used where an arc is produced between piece and coated electrode. There may be possibility of several weld defects like: partial point penetration, undercuts, crater cracks, inclusion of slag, hydrogen induced cracking due to incorrect usage of stick rods. In order to avoid this re qualify the welders and build up are the common practices to make completely fused welds.

In shield metal arc welding (commonly known by stick welding), coated electrodes are used which are melted and fed to the joint. This type is has worldwide applications from home usage to big commercial industries.
A coated electrode is prepared by depositing a covering (which is called flux) on a piece of metal rod. Flux is composed of different chemical elements and materials that support the welding process. These electrodes are available with different types of coating;
Cellulosic Coating - Consists of cellulose material that aids the process of welding by producing shielding gases and slag.
Basic Coating - Consists of those elements that fuse to give basic slag which assists in many applications.
Iron Oxide Coating - consists of oxides of metals that assists to produce high quality welds with improved strength and mechanical properties.
Rutile coating - consists of titanium compounds which helps to give acidic slag to protect the weld metal. They produce oxides of hydrogen and nitrogen which serve as shielding gases for the process.

We always wonder about how thick plates are welded and what are the procedures and methods used to fabricate giant structures using an arc welding process. Up to 50 mm thick plates are being welded in fabrication industries and this is only possible by the use of arc welding.
Thick plate welding is primary concern in both structural and pressure welding to fabricate huge vessels, boilers, buildings, power plants etc. The above picture is the visual of fillet welds using a MIG (Metal Inert Gas Welding Process). It is essential to be noted here that all types of arc process can be applied to fabricate above mentioned items.
Joint preparation is the foremost element to produce strong and quality weld products. There are several types of joints, out of which ‘V’  groove and ‘J-bevel’ groove are frequently used joint types. Also the proper welding conditions in collaboration with joint configuration plays vital role in giving strength and sound mechanical properties to the joint.
For thick plate welding bevel edge joints are normally preferred which are welded by multi-pass technique.  Tests are conducted in order to authorize the welders to perform welding on thick plate. Moreover MIG process with its variable transfer modes, assists in achieving good quality results.

Groove Welding is popular joining technique in manufacturing of products for several industries like: oil and gas, nuclear power plant, marine etc. Groove is kind of an opening between the two work pieces which has to be filled by weld metal. In the above picture, welding of common joint is shown which is a pipe to flange joint. For this groove welding is the best practice to join it using several types of arc welding.
Common groove weld type used for pipe to flange joint is ‘J’ bevel. J groove bevel is type of joint between the two pieces in shape of alphabetical letter ‘J’.
For sound welding output following factors must be satisfied: good penetration, complete fusion, correct joint preparation and dimensions, correct usage of gas shielding, correct welding conditions, use of backing if required and many more.
In above lines we talk about correct welding conditions. Well this includes: welding current, voltage, travel speed, shielding rate, correct consumables (maintained in suitable conditions). Today a number of welding consumables of different material and composition, have been prepared by manufacturing industries, to improve the quality and life span of weld. Efforts have been made to prepare such consumables which can provide sound weld products of good mechanical and corrosion properties.

In carbon steel welding, TIG process is widely used to fabricate massive pipe structures. A variety of filler rods are available to weld different grades of steel. There are a number of weldable steel grades which are being joined by arc welding process. TIG process is complicated as compared to other types and require more care and skills to work on. Not only carbon steels, the process is also served in welding of stainless steels, duplex stainless steels, aluminum and copper alloys. Based on its working the process can be applied on repair works, complex joints and other areas where other arc processes don’t serve satisfactory results. It requires no flux and hence produce slag free welds.
The process has worldwide applications in fabrication of pipes, plants, nuclear plants, tubing, food and brewing and many more. Research has been conducted to improve the process in order to get improved mechanical properties weld.
