Ujjain’s Mahakaleshwar Temple Is Under The Supreme Court Scanner
Tumblr media
The Supreme Court has thrown new light on the dispute regarding the shrinking of the Shivling of the famous Mahakaleshwar Temple, Ujjain. The highest court of appeal has set up a committee of experts who have been to the temple recently. The Supreme Court has formulated some new laws to prevent the Shivling from shrinking. According to the verdict, purified RO water should be used for the jal abhishek of the shivling.
The Mahakaleshwar temple is located on the banks of the holy river Shipra, in Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh. This temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, each of which is considered to be the sacred dwelling place of the Lord. Mahakaleshwar is also one of the 18 Maha Shakti Pethas in India. The jal abhishek of the shivling and the Ash aarti in the Mahakaleshwar Temple are the main attractions. Thus, devotees from all parts of the country come to pray to the ‘Mahadev’ and take part in the spectacular aarti.
The Controversy Regarding The Shrinking Idol -
Ujjaini Vidwat Parishad consists of a group of experts who on their recent visit claimed that the size of the Shivling is reducing. According to them, due to excessive use of panchamrit (a solution of milk, curd ghee, sugar, and honey) and Bhang shringar, the Shivling has shrunk.  Therefore they appealed to the court and officials of the temple to reduce the quantity of panchamrit.
However, the expert committee set up by the Supreme Court had a different opinion. The committee consisting of intellectuals from the Geological Survey of India and Archaeological Survey of India put forward that the bhang offering was not the cause. In Fact, the panchamrit was also not responsible for the shrinking. They have instead imposed a restriction on the number of devotees visiting the temple.
Moreover, they also said that there should be a restriction on the devotees' panchamrit offering to the Shivling. Only the priests can do it. The panel made it clear to the temple officials that they should limit the quantity of the panchamrit, gangajal, and bhang.
RO Water To Be Used For Jal Abhishek -
The Supreme Court also mentioned that the temple priests should use RO purified water for jal abhishek of the shivling instead of gangajal. In addition, for the ritual of ‘dugdh abhishek’ the quantity of milk to be used should be 1.25 liters. Anything more than that is strictly under restriction by the apex court.
All these new rules have triggered some unrest among the devotees. Though they are not completely happy with the restrictions but are trying to cope with the latest guidelines.
My Tirth India gives you a pilgrimage opportunity to visit the most sacred and divine temples all over India.  Browse their website to know more about the tours and packages because we are sure you will not want to miss these at any cost.

Everything You Need To Know About The Temple In Mahakaleshwar
Tumblr media
The Mahakaleshwar temple is located on the banks of Shipra river in Ujjain. This temple is dedicated to Mahadev and believed to be one of the most prominent shrines in the entire country. This temple is the abode of a Swayambhu or Mahakaleshwar jyotirlinga which means this linga originated on its own. It gets its power and strength on its own and no external infusion is necessary. Another fun fact about the Jyotirlinga is that it is south-faced also known as dakshinamukhi which is different from all the other Jyotirlingas. It is unlikely for deities or idols in temples to face towards the south. That is why this linga is considered special. The jalabhishek of shivling in Mahakaleshwar is quite popular across the country.
The Magnificent Mahakaleshwar Temple:
The temple is the three storeyed complex structure where the Lingas- Mahakaleshwar, Omkareshwar, Nagchandreshwar resides respectively in the lower, middle and upper storeys. The Nagchandreshwar linga can only be worshipped on the occasion of Nag Panchami and it remains closed to the public on any other day.
You can find a water body or a kunda inside the temple which is called Koti Teertha and this can be found in almost every temple structures built in ancient age. There are beautiful and intricate carvings on the pinnacle or gumbaj of the temple and it just enhances the glory of the temple. The Mahakaleshwar temple is also mentioned in the Puranas and thus it is proved that this temple has been there since forever.
The Bhasma Aarti ritual is quite famous here. This means that the aarti is performed with ash. Every devotee who visits there should not leave without experiencing the glorious sight of Bhasma Aarti which is not only captivating to the eyes but also to the soul. This Bhasma Aarti is performed early morning at 4 am and is one of the very first rituals of the day. It is done right after Jal Abhishek to wake up the lord. This ritual is exclusive to the Mahakaleshwar temple only. The smearing of Ash during the aarti could signify many things including humans are reduced to ashes after death and nothing really remains. It could also mean that Mahakaleshwar is the Lord of Time and we have no control over.
There are endless meanings of this ritual but it is meant to be one of the most special rituals according to mythology. Thousands of people flock every year to witness the jalabhishek and bhasma Aarti. If you are planning to take a trip there, make sure you do not leave the place without witnessing these two rituals with your own eyes. Many devotees also believe it is the path of salvation.
These are some great facts about the temple of Mahakaleshwar. If you want to go on a trip there then get in touch with My Tirth India. They provide amazing packages. Check out their website for more information.

The Undeniable Experience Of Golden Temple At Amritsar
Tumblr media
Some visits leave an indelible impression on our minds. Golden Temple in Amritsar is one such place that offers us a once-in-a-life-time fascinating experience.  If you want a hassle-free experience then opt for the golden temple Amritsar package which will give you a complete experience of the city and the temple. Here are little nuggets about the place and the temple:
Known-unknown Facts About Golden Temple:
Golden Temple began with an idea germinated in 1570 when Guru Amardas thought to excavate the holy tank. He also wanted to build a holy town around the tank. Based on this plan and construction, fifth Sikh Guru – Guru Arjan Singh, took the initiative to build a place of worship as the central worship area of the township. Thus, the construction of the temple began in the year 1588. However, it was more or less a simple Gurudwara till beautification of it, including gold plating, was done in the year 1830 by Maharaja Ranjit Sing.
The gurudwara is known by different names. While it is more popularly called Swarnamandir or Golden Temple, the locals refer to it as the Harmandir Sahib or Sri Darbar Sahib. The exquisite looking gurudwara has four main entrances. There is also a water body named Sarovar – which forms one of the chief attractions of the place. People coming to the gurudwara always wash their face and hands with the water from this enormous tank. People have a belief that wate has many healing properties.
The main gurudwara is a three-storied structure. It has beautiful ornamentation of precious stones and gold all over. The main worship area is where the Guru Granth Sahib is kept. It is the holy and most revered scripture of the Sikhs. This forms the focal point of the place. Every morning – at dawn – nominated people carry the sacred book to Harmandir Sahib for common people to come and pay respect. It is brought in a golden palanquin. At the end of the day, it is once again carried back to its resting place known as the Akal Takht. The visitors pay their respect to this sacred book and not to any particular deity.  The visitors are all given prasad known as the Karha Prasad.
A chief attraction of the temple is definitely the community feeding where thousands sit together and share a meal. Irrespective of their social stays, caste, or class, each of them sits together and share a meal prepared at the community kitchen. The name of the kitchen is ‘Guru ka Langar’ and it is the largest community kitchen in the world. There are volunteers who cook the meal and every day. About 100,000 pilgrims share food here every day. And all this free of cost.
Golden Temple is not just a pilgrimage destination. It is also a wonderful example of unity in diversity. There are lakhs of pilgrims who come and visit the temple, pray, and eat together. This gives a beautiful message that no one is big or small in the eyes of God. If you too want to be a part of this excellent experience then avail the package from My Tirth India and visit this wonderful place.
