I have all these same thoughts with this scene. This one and the axe scene in season 4 are both earth shattering revelations.
Lucifer 1x04 Manly Whatnots
So, @thedeckerstarnetwork is doing a S1 rewatch and I have to talk about this:
Tumblr media
This scene happens IN THE FOURTH EPISODE. THE FOURTH. EPISODE.
I feel like I could write a ten-page paper on this scene alone, quite honestly. At times like this, I wish I knew the first thing about gif-making, because I swear I would break it down frame by frame, if I could.
This moment follows some crazy-inappropriate moments: Chloe shows up, for work, and finds Lucifer naked. Worse, he then speaks one of the most-cringeworthy lines of the entire series (“The berries are ripe and ready to be harvested.”—I just legit shuddered typing it out).
The emotional whiplash in this scene is used to masterful effect. A scene originally providing comic relief—Lucifer being Lucifer; Chloe being both horrified and, if her gaze is anything to go by, weirdly turned on (watch her expression in the moment before she notices the scars; she’s considering it)—shifts in a heartbeat to one of the most revealing and nuanced and magnificent moments in the series.
The second Chloe sees the scars on Lucifer’s back, her entire demeanor changes. All awkwardness, all irritation, all wide-eyed almost-appreciation vanishes. She is visibly distraught, upset, horrified. She almost can’t speak. These scars are huge and ragged and obviously old. From her perspective, his response—God the father, wings, Maze cutting them off—must seem, to her, like deflection of the most extreme variety. She’s a cop; the deflection and the scars must be absolutely screaming abuse victim at her.
Chloe is a detective and a mother and she cares. Sure, Lucifer still drives her batty. Sure, he’s Trouble with a capital T. Sure, he’s inappropriate and weird and possibly insane. But he’s also been hurt. The kind of hurt that leaves visible scars—and to Chloe Jane Decker, that’s abhorrent. It’s contrary to the core of who she is. It throws kerosene on the fire of her desire to help people and see justice done. She wants to get to the bottom of what happened, yes.
But, and here’s the rub, here’s the big deal … more even than justice, she wants to comfort him. She doesn’t reach for his scars to ogle. There’s nothing sexual about it. She’s not morbidly curious.
She is distraught and her heart is already breaking for him and she reaches for him to comfort.
This single moment changes everything between them. In fact, I’d put hard cold cash on a bet that, had Chloe shot him before this scene, he wouldn’t have bled. I think this is the first time someone has looked at Lucifer Morningstar and, instead of seeing sex on legs or a favor about to happen or desire, sees the soul underneath. Instead of harvesting berries (how many, how many, people have seen him naked and haven’t even noticed the scars?), she reaches out to comfort him.
No one comforts Lucifer Morningstar. Not only that, up until this precise moment, Lucifer has never felt like he needed comforting. He didn’t feel weak or wounded or vulnerable. He didn’t feel exposed. All along, he’s been thinking something is wrong with Chloe, but this moment crystallizes that maybe, just maybe—and, in fact, as we’re about to see at the end of the episode—something is wrong with him.
Lucifer is shaken to the core of his being. The foundations are already crumbling.
Lucifer Morningstar was in no way prepared for Earthquake Chloe.

Can we get green with deckerstar please?
sure can, bud!
Green- Flower Shop AU
(Also, I can’t resist making this a Flower shop/tattoo parlor au)
Chloe doesn’t know why she’s nervous. It’s silly, really. She’s seen him mostly unclothed and had her hands against him for hours as she worked to ink delicate petals into his skin, but somehow now she’s got the butterflies. Still, she wipes her palms nervously as she approaches his shop. Morningstar Flowers is hard to miss.
The bell jingles as she walks in. “One moment!” Lucifer’s voice calls out from the back. She looks around, her inquisitive nature prompting her to nose about. It’s not your typical florist, the lighting is low and warm and the walls a dark cherry wood. She’d mistake it for a speakeasy, if it weren’t for the tastefully displayed arrangements. Lucifer appears, looking rather startled to see her. But then he practically lights up, delight suffusing his expression.
He’s not in his typical extravagant suit, but rather a henley shirt with the buttons undone, exposing his throat, and a dark apron smudged with dirt. There’s a smear of soil near his cheek like he’d wiped at his face without realizing. The tattoos on his forearms are on display, his sleeves rolled and cuffed. She can’t help but admire them. Her own work peeks out a little at his collar, thin inked petals edging out, teasing at more. The desire to reach out and trace the lines twitches her fingers before she smothers it.
“Chloe!” He smiles at her as he sets a small potted sapling down on the counter. “What a surprise.”
She does her best to return it, but it feels shaky on her face. “Hi, Lucifer.” There’s a beat where they both sort of stand and stare at each other. “Um, could I buy a bouquet?”
Her question seems to snap him to reality. “Oh! Yes, yes of course,” he says, wiping his hands on his apron. “How can I help you? We have some lovely selections, just got stock in from-”
“It’s, um, it’s for someone important to me, so I’d like to choose specifically the flowers that go in it, if that’s all right.”
He blinks, but doesn’t let it slow him down. “Of course. Any particular preference regarding the container?”
She hadn’t considered that. “No, whatever you think is best. It’s for a bunch of different flowers.”
“Ah, so you already have something in mind, very good. Shall we step in the back?”
“Sure,” she says and steps around the counter when he gestures for her to move forward. She brushes by him and he smells like rich, freshly turned dirt and clean sweat. His eyes are dark in the low light.
He leads her to rows and rows of flowers, some freshly cut, others still planted. He snags a plastic pot and sticks a pair of shears in his front pocket. “Right,” he smiles, effortlessly alluring. “Where would you like to start?”
She shifts he weight back and forth, biting her lip, trying to decide how to go about this. She’d done so much research for his tattoos and now it all seems to flee her brain. Did the order matter? Or was it just the end presentation? Lucifer saves her after a moment of indecision.
“Shall we start with the foundation? Perhaps some hydrangeas or chrysanthemums?”
“Not hydrangeas,” she says quickly. “Chrysanthemums would be fine as long as they’re white.” Loyalty. Devotion.
“All right.” Lucifer moves over to the flowers in question and snips some, arranging it carefully.
“I’d like some asters.”
His eyebrows raise. “Any particular color?”
“Red. Purple would be fine, too.” Undying affection. Patience. Wisdom.
He’s quiet as they move to a different section. He cuts them expertly and Chloe can’t help but watch his broad hands as they work. “Might I ask...Is the recipient male or female?”
“Male,” she answers, firm.
His mouth presses thin. “I see. Well. I’d advise for choosing darker colored flowers, in that case.”
She shakes her head. “No. No, it’s got to be just right.”
He nods, not looking at her. “Very well, what next?”
They gather up the rest of the flowers. Light red carnations. Admiration.  Ranunculus. I find you charming. Valerian. Readiness. Red tulip. Love.
Chloe can hear the rush of blood in her ears as Lucifer carefully places the bright tulip in the center. “Is that all?” he asks when she doesn’t name off another flower.
“Yes.” The walk back up to the counter seems longer than it did when she came in. Lucifer carefully wraps the arrangement, the crinkling of paper and plastic loud in the silence. He reads her the price and she pays it without thinking.
“Oh, I forgot a flower,” she says, pretending at absentmindedness. Her voice sounds too high. Is her voice too high? Lucifer’s jaw flexes.
“Not a problem, what did you wish to add?”
She eyes the large sprays of Lucifer’s signature flowers on display behind him, the same ones she painstakingly rendered onto his body, flowing along the natural curve of his spine, curling over the arch of muscle between his neck and shoulder.
“Lilies,” she says, and he finally, finally, looks at her. “Morningstar lilies.”
He swallows. She sees the moment he realizes who these flowers, who this message is for. “Oh,” he says softly. He touches the bouquet in front of him with reverent fingers. “Are you quite sure? I- I fear the lilies might be...a bit damaged.”
“That’s okay,” she says. “I think they’re beautiful anyway.”

Pro Tip: The Way You End a Sentence Matters
Here is a quick and dirty writing tip that will strengthen your writing.
In English, the word at the end of a sentence carries more weight or emphasis than the rest of the sentence. You can use that to your advantage in modifying tone.
Consider:
In the end, what you said didn't matter.
It didn't matter what you said in the end.
In the end, it didn't matter what you said.
Do you pick up the subtle differences in meaning between these three sentences?
The first one feels a little angry, doesn't it? And the third one feels a little softer? There's a gulf of meaning between "what you said didn't matter" (it's not important!) and "it didn't matter what you said" (the end result would've never changed).
Let's try it again:
When her mother died, she couldn't even cry.
She couldn't even cry when her mother died.
That first example seems to kind of side with her, right? Whereas the second example seems to hold a little bit of judgment or accusation? The first phrase kind of seems to suggest that she was so sad she couldn't cry, whereas the second kind of seems to suggest that she's not sad and that's the problem.
The effect is super subtle and very hard to put into words, but you'll feel it when you're reading something. Changing up the order of your sentences to shift the focus can have a huge effect on tone even when the exact same words are used.
In linguistics, this is referred to as "end focus," and it's a nightmare for ESL students because it's so subtle and hard to explain. But a lot goes into it, and it's a tool worth keeping in your pocket if you're a creative writer or someone otherwise trying to create a specific effect with your words :)

Just a quick note for anyone who's not on Twitter, I've been working on a pretty intensive project for Lucitober which is why Earth Angel hasn't been getting updated. It's a series of cosplay photos and its loads of fun but so much work, I mean so much work, like many, many hours every single day. So I've had no time at all to write sadly. I'll be diving back into it in November when this challenge is over, but until then you can see what I'm working on on my Twitter if you'd like. Here's a look at all of them so far!
Tumblr media
See you in November for more Earth Angel!
