So long, it’s been fun
Hi. This is my big obligatory, “I’m leaving post”. So important information first so I don’t waste anyone’s time.
I’m keeping this blog up as an archive and because I want to, just because. I’ve spent many years, the whole of the last decade, on this website and it’s hard to destroy it completely. I have stories I haven’t fully uploaded to my archive of our own, so I plan to do that at some point.
I want to write stories still and I hope to do that on my ao3. If you care about that stuff, it’s here on the blog still and the ao3 account is just my classicaloid fanfiction but that’s gonna change sometime soon. For now, though, all the old stuff will be here.
I have a twitter, it’s bad but hit it up sometime if you want.
Thank you to everyone who I’ve come to know over the years. I made a lot of friends here. I did art trades and gifts and submitted something for a zine and worked on fandom theories and fanfiction and I was even a Tumblr meme for a minute! I’ve done so many amazing things on this site. I’m glad I got to experience almost a full decade with this site. I’m glad this site helped me find words and phrases that helped me understand my identity better than I would have done if I was alone.
Below I talk about why I’m leaving and I do want some people to understand: I may be done with Tumblr but I’m still very grateful for some of the wonderful things that have happened to me on this site.
Alright, that’s basically it if you want to continue scrolling.
If you want to know my reasons, keep reading.
Alright so I’m done. I’m just done. It’s 2020, I’m 26 years old, and I’m really tired.
Tumblr has brought me a million wonderful things and a million and one awful things. I always felt like being on this website, after a certain point, was like a balancing act. Things stayed fun even as shit within the site got worse. Before it was the site just being a broken mess, and it was so fun to poke fun and make memes and feel connected to people when I first started. Things were dumb or “cringy” but I was young, that’s what being young is like. You do dumb and “cringy” things because you’re finding out who you are in a world that is rapidly changing and evolving around you. Looking at old posts, a lot of this blog had happened before my life took a spiraling nose dive for a few years. There are posts before I lost my apartment, my biological father, my grandfather, and our old car. There’s posts from before I moved six different times in one year and went through the worst living experiences of my life. Yes, they are embarrassing and awkward but I remember having fun here, when the scariest thing I was dealing with was wondering what college I was going to go to when I graduated from high school.
A decade later and the site still goes buggy but I’m not feeling very connected to people, or maybe I feel too connected in the worst ways with people. Everything just feels like….like I’m back at highschool. There’s a level of dread I get when I see drama popping up, there’s a level of exhaustion I feel when I see the “controversies” pop up, and there’s just a level of how fed up I am with the way things are run around here. I’m graduating (finally) from college this year and I come back to Tumblr and feel like I’m seventeen again, worried about saying the wrong thing or liking the wrong thing and being overly miserable and like----it’s just very silly.
I’m not happy. I’m not a happy person by nature, or at least I’m not anymore. I created this blog hoping to share the way I felt or things I liked, but I wanted Tumblr to be something that brought me joy. But it doesn’t. Not anymore.
I wanted one place where I could be happy and, for a time, that used to be Tumblr believe it or not. Now it’s the opposite. It’s the one of the few places that bring me down hard. I am thankful for the times Tumblr made me happy, made me feel I was going strong with people who were all connected just because we were all passionate about the same thing. But those times feel like they’ve faded over time, just pockets of that same feeling pop up for just a brief moment before they’re gone again. Maybe that’s just what happens sometimes. Maybe it was always supposed to happen like this.
I’ve been feeling this way for a long while, but I’ve been with this website since 2011. I joined in October of that year and I didn’t want to say goodbye.
But I’m tired. I’m really, really, really tired. And I’m done feeling this bad about it.
So long, it’s been really fun. Thank you for the ride, but I’m catching the next bus out.
#this has been a post#my last post on this blog#Almost a decade on this site and I don't even know what else to say#Oh I do know#if I can quote something that I've always found solace in#I don't know who you are. Or whether you're a man or a woman.#I may never see you or cry with you or get drunk with you.#But I love you.#i hope that the world turns and that things get better#and that one day people have roses again#i wish i could kiss you.#yeah it's the letter from V for Vendetta don't judge#Love you guys

How To Defeat A Sphynx
Sphynx: You must solve my riddle, or die.
Me: Alternate option: you endure ten minutes of my best puns or give me the treasure.
Sphynx: (smug) Foolish human, you have doomed yourself. I am the king of verbal sparring. Begin.
Me: Okay, but you don’t know the catastrophe you’ve brought down on your head.
Sphynx: ….Was that a cat pun.
Me: It’s pawsible.
Sphynx: Because I am part feline.
Me: I would be lion if I said no.
Sphynx: (eye twitch) I thought you said these were your best puns.
Me: These are purrfect puns! Don’t throw a hissy fit just because you inclawrectly infured a claws in the agreement. I gave you an oppurrtunity and you pounced on it, so you can’t say the game’s unpharaoh now. And if you were half the man you think you are, you wouldn’t be in deNile about the Tutuncommon supurriority of my puns. You’re kitten yourself if you thought I’d just Moses on into your stomach without a catfight. Are you scarab yet? Because I can tail these till the great river runs dry–
Sphynx: Oh my Ra stop stop stop here just take it!!!

Trump won't stop tearing up official papers so the White House archives employ a staff to tape them back together for the National Archives

Trump is notorious for his “filing system”: when he is finished with a piece of paper, he tears it into tiny pieces and throws it away, which is fine if you’re a CEO (maybe), but is radioactively illegal under the Presidential Records Act, because the President works for the public, and is required by law to archive their official papers and save them for public scrutiny.
White House staffers gave up on trying to explain this to Trump, who just kept on tearing up everything, from official letters from Senators to letters from constituents to notes and other paperwork.
The staffers – paid nearly $70,000 year – ended up with full-time jobs retrieving scraps of paper from Trump’s trash-can and piecing them back together with clear tape so they can be filed in the National Archives. Some of these staffers were eventually fired; they’ve spoken to Politico about their year in the Trump administration as paper-tapers.

Update (January 2020): The case is going to federal Supreme Court, but date has not yet been announced.
Update (August 2019): The case might be going to the federal Supreme Court of Canada because the BC government is appealing the decision.
As long as we’re talking about southern mountain caribou, decolonization, and the Sinixt people, a British Columbia court ruling from May 2019 involving a Sinixt man essentially means that the Sinixt may now cross the international border for cultural practices. But the case also paved the way for another historically significant change: the Canadian government wrongfully declared the Sinixt people “extinct” in 1956, but the outcome of this case may have laid the legal groundwork for formal recognition of the Sinixt people once again.
-
-
The Canadian government declared the Sinixt people “extinct” in 1956, despite the relatively large area of land inhabited by Sinixt people and despite Sinixt people living as registered members of US confederated tribes and living among other Canadian First Nations. [The Sinixt are often referred to in settler-colonial texts as the “Lakes tribe.”]
This legal situation began in October 2010, when Rick Desautel - a member of Lakes Tribe of the Colville Confederated Tribes, in northeastern Washington near Spokane - shot an elk near Castelgar in British Columbia. Since he was technically a US citizen, BC officials charged him with hunting without a license and hunting without being a resident. Desautel argues that the elk hunt was permissable because it occurred on traditional Sinixt land - a land which crosses the US-Canada border.
From a My Northwest article about the latest victory in the case, from May 2019:
That’s when the Colville Tribes decided to pursue a legal strategy to help reestablish the Sinixt in Canada and secure rights afforded recognized First Nations in that country. “So when the Tribal Council says, ‘We’ll go do this and we’ll start a court case,’ and they asked me if I wanted to be the test case, I said I would sure love to be the test case,” Desautel said. “My ancestry goes really deep into the Sinixt part of the country there.” […]
Since he had agreed to be a test case for the Colville Tribe to try and change the law via the courts in Canada, Desautel notified game authorities in British Columbia about what he had done. [End quote.]
[Map from Sinixt Nation online.]
From a PRI article (14 September 2019):
For him, it was also a protest. “I knew for a fact that if somebody didn’t start this, it never going to get going,” Desautel says. “So, when I was asked if I wanted to start this, I said, ‘Sure, I’ll come up here and kick up a little dust and see what happens here.’” On March 27, 2017, a court in British Columbia acquitted Desautel of charges related to illegal hunting. According to the judge, Desautel was exercising an aboriginal right that stretches back thousands of years.
-
Desautel was acquitted in this trial, but despite the initial 2017 court victory, the case went into appeals. A second appeal hearing was held in Vancouver in September 2018. [Which you can read about here.]
Desautel and other Indigenous activists celebrated yet another appeals victory in May 2019. From the My Northwest article:
The decision last week by the B.C. Court of Appeal to uphold this decision is another significant legal victory, and it means that what Rick Desautel did [crossing the international border to engage in cultural practices] isn’t considered illegal anymore. More importantly for other Sinixt people, it may also mean that the Sinixt First Nation (also known as the Arrow Lakes Band) – which was deemed extinct by the Canadian government in 1956 on dubious contentions that the Sinixt people had dispersed and moved away from their homelands – might be officially recognized again.
