IDES1262 Task 10 - Completing the loop.
For me, this semester is an interesting and unique experience. It is an attempt to make planar design three-dimensional. In the first part of the semester, the learning purpose mainly focuses on the normalization of plane expression, and then makes creations based on it. I think this stage is a preliminary exploration of design concepts and understanding the proofing and iteration process in the initial stage of design. The second part begins with the translation of some preliminary graphic designs into conceptual models, which are made using blue foam because it is relatively cheap and easy to cut and easily meet different molding needs. While making models by hand, I also began to understand some industrial processes, such as injection molding and die casting. Knowing this will help you reduce the number of problems you have when turning conceptual models into industrial products. The third part is to accelerate the construction of conceptual models through software. 3DS is easy to build entities, and its high randomness and tolerance for random surfaces make it a good choice for preliminary outline products. At the same time, 3DSmax can also quickly iterate the samples of existing dioramas by scanning, smoothing and printing. Therefore, in general, as an introductory course, 1262 clearly Outlines the design process of contemporary mainstream designers and the design direction that needs attention, and the class hour is also properly controlled.
As an online student, can't participate in 3 d printing entity model, and communication with people is a shame, though online students will still have communication, but these exchanges are often limited to chat platform and time zones, and because it is difficult to contact the actual model, often can only exchange for a conceptual thinking and cognition, difficult to proposals on some actual product and modify. And limited by the learning environment, many details can not achieve the most perfect state. Problems such as processing and materials could not be unified, and there was no opportunity to actually operate the injection molding machine and scan my own model. These are all regrets. However, I found many interesting skills and tools when making manual models, which may bring inspiration to my future work. If you can reset it for several weeks, I may be of some technology and design was improved, many ideas often become clear only when submitted, to many works also tend to be realized that only after the enthusiasm on the use of the software I also tend to be trapped in their past experience in the use of different software, it can reduce my efficiency, I will try many different design techniques in the future.

IDES1262 WEEK 9 - Preparing a 3D scan.
I think this part is quite difficult, because I need to adjust and optimize the existing model. I need to thank my classmates for their help in this process, because many online tutorials are not enough to solve the problems I need to face. The initial transition grid was very simple, I tried using a three-sided grid for editing, but it was very difficult and involved a lot, so I used the four-sided grid in the tutorial.
Tumblr media
The Symmetry and Mirror Modifier was used to simply modify the model's flaws, as the process depended on the maker so it was easy.
Tumblr media
The results were not great, and many flaws remained, even with the Relax and Smooth Modifier. However, it seems to have little impact on the final output. Considering the accuracy of 3D printers, these defects should not have much impact on the final product.
Tumblr media
The familiar degree requirements for the software in this work is quite high, I struggled in the process of the completion of the assignment, and finally I also did not achieve the desired work, if you use SolidWorks may modify the facade will be more convenient, but change a lot of curved surface is not SW expertise, I should learn more to use 3 ds technique.

Week 8 - 3DS MAX
This week's work is more focused on the use of CAD software, which is a very interesting and fresh attempt for me.
Tumblr media
In my opinion, THE interface design of 3DS is quite different from that of SolidWork used before, and sometimes the required functions cannot be found when using it. The 3DS does have more ability to design continuous surfaces than the SW. This time I tried to make a wine glass and a teacup. For technical reasons, the objects still end up in geometric stacks.

Week 7 Studio Tutorial – Physical Model Making (foam)
For me, the activities at this stage were very interesting, but also extremely difficult. Limited by the width of the plate, I split the bottle into two parts, using glue in the middle. The bottle body is a trapezoid as a whole, and the bottom is angular cut.
Tumblr media
For me, the activities at this stage were very interesting, but also extremely difficult. As an online student, I need to face the dual problems of materials and processing methods. This time I chose a material with low density, which makes it difficult to form sharp edges and has a lot of hard-to-clean debris when cutting. In the next stage, I will use the blue Form with higher density. Cutting is also an important issue for me. It was difficult to cut perfect lines and surfaces without a table saw, and sandpaper was used in large quantities, but at the cost of unsatisfactory workmanship accuracy.

Week 6 - Photoshop
This week is mainly to use ADOBE to modify and optimize the effect drawing. I used pen to underline and mask the area to make the work more three-dimensional. This process was a little bit difficult for me, because Photoshop is the software I use less. But in general, I am satisfied with the three-dimensional feeling reflected in the final product, but the shadows in some parts do not seem to conform to reality due to some asymmetry.

Week 5 Studio Tutorial – Sketching
Again this week, do some simple sketching, which is a useful presentation technique.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This week, I will design some perfume bottles, and I will make some sketch designs in the ratio of 1:2, which can not only limit me to the original ideas, but also shorten the time of basic scheme design.
Tumblr media
The next part is to draw some 1:1 bottles using the two-point perspective we learned last week. Drawing a frame for reference perspective is a very good idea. Drawing a round bottle cap with proper perspective was more complicated than I expected, but I was happy with the end result.
Tumblr media
The shadow of the object is something I am not satisfied with, I will look for more references next time.

This week's exercise is more complicated and difficult than the previous exercise. The expression and presentation of perspective are not intuitive in three views. I made a scaleless display model using EVA squares to refer to changes in the perspective of objects as they rotate.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The second part adopts the same two-point perspective as the first part, but it is slightly more difficult due to the more complex shape, and more attention to details is needed.
Tumblr media
The last part, I think, aims at understanding the distortion of objects on different surfaces under perspective, which is a skill that will be used extensively in drawing renderings of complex geometric surfaces.

part 1
This part is only rough layout and planning. The question was whether to place the profile on the left or right, and I chose to put it on the left.
Tumblr media
part 2
Alignment can save you a lot of time during refinement. The final layout was still crowded and I had to move the image title to the left. The final sketch is generally satisfactory and can clearly show the data needed for production.

part 1
According to the sample given, the drawing was completed after simple measurement. Personally, I think it is not difficult to follow the sample. Use double-sided adhesive tape when pasting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
part 2
In the second part, I chose equal scale drawing, because the objects are smaller and A4 paper is probably better. This part is more of a connection function, enabling the author to have a clearer understanding of the appearance of products in different directions.
Tumblr media
part 3
Part 3 is more of an extension of the same type of work than Part 2. In the process of completing the orthogonal drawing, I referred to the standard engineering drawing book and paid attention to the type of line, the thickness of line, the placement of labels, the composition of drawings, etc. Drawings are drawn using 2B pencils.

Week 1 Drawing Instrument ExerciseThis week I mainly focus on basic drawing skills. My drawing is messy due to the temporary lack of rounded corners. For me, the main difficulty lies in the estimation of line width and the relationship between front and back occlusion of the pattern. Also, using a pencil for composition tends to make the drawing messy and difficult to cover with oily paint.
Next time maybe can add some cover on the drawing.

P2
Make the sample with cardboard first, and then it will be easier to batch, and the accuracy can be controlled at about 0.5mm
