        HE LEANS IN AND PRESSES A KISS TO HER LIPS. it’s been a long day, his fingers still stained with pigment. he’s careful not to touch her dress and stain it, keeping a slight distance to avoid such an accident. after a second or two, he pulls away, smiling softly at her. “ how was your day?? ” he questions, hands now falling to his sides.

        HE’S CONFUSED BEYOND BEING ABLE TO PINPOINT WHERE HE GOT LOST. “ jesus, davey, i don’t even know what that means. ” he responds, disorientation and defense slightly lining his words. it’s clear on his face, which is something he’s not quite proud of. somewhere on the line of thought davey had lost him.

       HER HEAD RESTS ON THE THROW PILLOW. her body is strewn across the couch, arms crossed on her stomach. “ i’m still trying to figure out what to get him for his birthday. ” she comments, pensive. she’s been with jeremy for a bit, but still didn’t know him as well as someone like michael does. her face is puzzled, various ideas swirling around her head of things she could get him or make him before the day came. “ how about you, do you have it figured out?? ”

      CHESS WAS ALWAYS A COMPETITIVE ACTIVITY. he feels this intense, unyielding need to win whenever he plays with his father. when challenging others, he has the ability to relax, even intentionally forgo his win with some, but never when it came to marvin. the overwhelming need to show his worth on the board was too much to shake, no matter how much time passes. “ CHECKMATE. ” he says, pride lining his voice, as he makes his last move. brown eyes move upwards, awaiting a reaction.

         FROM A YOUNG AGE HE’S HAD A CLEAR PREFERENCE IN WOMEN. like a classic freudian patient, lust drives him. he craves red lips and high heels, sharp attitudes and the clinging smell of smoke. he longs for the opposite of the types of women his mother would be happy for him to bring around. this has not been a very productive preference for him, he wasn’t exactly reeling them in. the type of girls he likes do not like him back --- they run in different cycles, leaving him in a permanent state of want.

         HE’D GIVEN UP ON HEATHER THE YEAR AFTER HIS BAR MITZVAH. back then, her mere stare was enough to make him wilt entirely. but all attempts to woo her fell flat, and the chase eventually made him grow much too tired to pursue her. now, he feels he could actually talk to her, a skill that would’ve ironically made conquest easier in the past. “ she’s just so... MEAN but it’s kind of HOT. i WANT her. how do i TALK to her?? ”

       RED CUP RESTS IN HER HAND. it’s full of cheap beer, it’s bitter taste impossible to enjoy. the buzz it brings, however, is well worth the suffering of downing it. “ do you think i’m pretty?? ” she asks the other girl, out of seemingly nowhere. “ and be honest. ” she adds, leaning into the counter separating them and bringing the cup to her lips in order to have another sip of her drink.

      SHE’S VERY TIPSY. it seemed that the more intoxicated she became, the more desperate she became for attention and validation. hands fall around his shoulders, body leaning forward slightly against his. eyes find themselves focusing on his face as much as they can through slight blur. “ you look cute. ” she comments, a small drunken giggle leaving her lips shortly after her statement is finished. “ do you think i look cute?? ” she questions, closing the distance a little more.
