Sandmoo’s tales of ext-400
It is said that all of us here are descended from great wolves of the past. In better times, we have roamed the land and hunted together. But times have become hard, our our once proud and fierce leaders now hide in the shadows and many clans rise up to challenge them. As we learn more about the land around us, we will send out groups to bring back things to help us.
Thus said the writings on the wall and I started to wonder. What tale was spun around this weird dream I woke up in. Slowly opening my eyes I soon started to see some lingering forms in the shadows. They started to come closer in slow lumbering steps. As they emerge themselves into the light rays of moonlight crawling into the hideout, my heartbeat increased.
“Welcome to the mighty Swiftclaw Clan. We are the wulfkin and gathered here to roam this village. There will be no friends so we must stay hidden and wait to find the right allies. Let us begin.” With those words ancient knowledge about wide lands with so much livestock and many friends entered my conscience and I knew where we came from. It was left to decide where to go from here.
I was finally able to take my next breath and sort my thoughts. Memory and illusion had to make room for the here and now. Thus the planning began. One of my new found clan members claimed to be noiseless and stealthy therefore he now would scout the land at night. Disguised as a GameHater he would hide at day. The other one, more prone to the inner workings of the sentient mind would be a Seer at night and disguise as GameIdeas in the village. I searched my mind for strength and ability and found the discreet use of herbs and drugs nature could give very useful in silently getting rid of possible threads. That made me the Assassin of our Clan. At day I would disguise as the most harmless animal…a sleeping cow and as Sandmoo it was decided to roam the village.
One MinerRat looked especially suspicious, so I brought them a nice healthy drink in the first night.  Everything should have started slowly and we wanted to roam the village in disguise. Sadly rather harsh unknown circumstances lead to my unfortunate early demise. For the six days that followed I watched from the grave as my Clan tried to find the promised allies and get rid of the threads. Our Seer had to leave the village on a quest to gather runes to help the village against the evils lurking in their midst. Said quest was deeply infiltrated and failed, when the still living questers returned my I watched my friends shorty reunite. A living member of the village claimed to have chosen my grave to hear the thoughts of the dead during the night. I believed in Swearwolves psychic powers and told them a nice tale about betrayal, wolves in the shadows and evils hiding among the trusted ones. In the morning they left the village, while other ghosts got revived by mythical forces. So they were ready to spread the tales in the village and on the second quest as well. Thus everyone living and dead would know what went on with the dead. I rested for some time and saw our poor Seer getting killed by wolves after they returned from the dramatically failed quest. Our hopes and wishes for a better future now are with GameHater on their quest to Rob Graves in far away lands.
Meanwhile silence was shed over the village, many dead villagers returned from their search in the tunnels. Gladly those were some chatty ones and I did not have to feel so alone in my ghostly existence. Everything was quite nice, the living seemed all to be evil and bickering among each other, while we discussed all sorts of things we had wished for our life. An almighty voice whispered to us: “I shall make preparations to send you to Valhalla tonight.” Some did not notice at first, Modin seldom spoke to us with more than a joke. So we started to anticipate what the future might bring. Valhalla, the resting place of fallen warriors. Yes us warriors going there and than? We all were happy to find out all that was to come.
Continuously fading in and out of  my ghostly awareness time went on. No clue how fast or slow, it all kinds blurred after being in the graveyard for so long.
Suddenly I awoke, fully in the here and now. Only two questions remained. When exactly is now? Where the heck is here? And why the fck am I blue and wearing a ridiculous hat?
Wait that’s three. But the latter just came to me in a spur of this moment. The first two where was quickly determined.
VALHALLA! Of course I was in Valhalla Modin told me so. I remember that tidbit from my blurry ghostly state of exiastance.
The voice of Modin spoke to the 17 glorious warriors that made it into Valhalla, yea and to me.
“Forget your past identities, they may not be speculated on. You retain your old allegiances here, although your roles may be different.  Those that prove themselves worthy will be returned to the land of the living.”
I knew I had to have a friend among those going to Valhalla, but they didn’t show at that first night. Upon the first early death my expectations of glorious fights and being worthy slightly went in other directions. Thus my mind conjured a different approach. We could have done it. We should have done it. Valhalla just made for the unique opportunity to start an evil uprising. Thus I stated that idea out loud:
“So I will start my proposal. It is most likely to get me lynched, but you know what we are already dead! So whats the next step? after-after-death?? I am not scared cause I am a descendant of the formerly great wolves and I want to roam freely around the lands of the living and not hide in the midst of weak villagers all my (after)life! So I used magical math and decided that it might be in favor of this proposal. If not at least I tried and did not hide my true nature like the weaklings our first life made us all! So predators unite and rise up! Let the worthless villagers hide in the shadows for once. Lynch them instead of the mighty fighters from ancient worlds. Unite, fight and get rid of the weaklings!”
Slowly it sank in. Some decided that my calculations were right and we “should” have the numbers. We decided on the first opposing voice and voted for them to be eliminated. The day progressed with some banter and a big load of annoyance towards my suggestion. I think it might really have helped if my hat wasn’t that ugly and ill fitting. Well, whatever I just had to try.
Sadly some of our comrades did not show up in Valhalla, thus we slightly missed the numbers and I was stabbed to death with pitchforks.
So this is deathception, interesting. Mh, not so much different than my first prolonged stay in the graveyard wearing another skin. I thought my renewed state of ghostly existence would feel different, look different, even maybe taste different. Maybe of mead and beer and all the wonderful things Valhalla advertised. Leaning back and watching the others fight it out and slaughter my allies, who went along with my suggestion, got a bit boring rather sooner than later. Yea, that supposedly endless supply of mead would really have helped.

dux-021 D1 or Whooooot?
Well, why am I surprised? It was announced to be a flustercluck! I rolled a role I never had before that’s fun…maybe. Morticians often just get nuked or useless really fast. getting useless fast seems about the best way to survive. Buuut that’s not it. why should that be it? No not by a long run. We might have a damned Maple Wolf? Just yololo…
I got a fun additional wincon!
Tumblr media
So, as one can see, I am a rubber duck. Not ginger that one. But well we have many fun ginger Avatars to choose from, so unless all of those get nuked before me that can be fine. One of the (by my count 5-6) ginger Avatars just announced, that there will be one negative effect vast on the village each day. The first one was announced as following: “ Dux is mean and is putting different negative effects on the village everyday, apparently it’s my job to make sure you don’t trigger them For today: Sending more than 21 messages today gives you a 33% chance of being silenced tomorrow  “ So as a self aware rambler I started counting my D1 lines. Good thing, that this one only lasts around 1 hour otherwise I’d be doomed. DOOMED I tell ya.
So I made it till night with only 7 lines and with nothing in the GY I can delay the freaking out over my checks one day. But I found fun itumz in my inventory. I transference pot. Well no surprise here *eyes all ginger avatars*. And Magi’s circlet. Never held this one and well yea, just gonna keep it around. Now I can just relax and hold my breath for the chaos to unfold. I have big expectations!
As a last thought this might be my d1 Version of a ginger Mega-rubber-ducky:
Tumblr media
Well after a good nights sleep I decided, that using the transference pot n1 would be the best way to go. Therefore I will change my Avatar right now. Fare well dear rubber-ducky I will miss you.

SnapDragon’s Merchant Thoughts
So the game started a day late which made me very sad but whatever. Then I woke up from my nap and realised the game had started. I looked at my role and discovered I was a merchant. I spend the first five minutes wondering what the actual fuck, but that is besides the point.
Merchants huh? That is new. My objective is having the most money at the end of the game as living Merchant. Which is in fact an interesting concept but not entirely new. It debuted in ext-300 under the name “Bandits” but instead of working together we work against each other and we don’t know who we all are.
We get money by selling items. And we spend money by buying them. So my initial prediction is that we are here to play stock market and that items are the stock. In my honest opinion some items will be worth a ton and some will be worth nothing. For example in my opinion Protection items will be worth a lot so merchants have to chose between keeping them to protect themselves or selling them and get lots of gold. The same applies to weapons because it can be used to eliminate loot piñatas.
We are also the literal definition of loot piñatas. As in the role personified. Therefore claiming will be risky if not doing it at all.
So now a LOT of setup speculation. “You are a Merchant. You are here to exploit the chaos and make your fortune” is the fluff text. Therefore I’m gonna assume this is going to be a slow game with roles that can exploit the loot piñata mechanic. No extras joined so that rules out Undead since they cannot abuse loot piñatas. Vamp however live on recruiting loot piñatas so that is my lock-in for evil faction. Vamp however need a supporting evil faction. Coven fits this role to a T. With 18 players I’m going to assume 1 VM and around 4-5 coven. There is also the supporting cast of more merchants. My initial guess is there is more than 2 but less than 5 so 3-4 is my guess. The amount of merchants also influences the amount of coven there is.
On the topic of village roles. We talk about a loot piñata game. Therefore we talk about Thieves. Thieves will be the bane of our existence since it will make keeping items risky as all hell. Then we have some RuneSmiths, apothecaries and blacksmiths.
My final idea of a setup will be VM+1 Harpy, 1 Witch, 2 Djinns, 1 Furie, 3 Merchants -> 8 evil/neutrals. This leaves room for 10 villagers. With 3 merchants I’m going to assume 2 thieves, 1 runesmith, 1 apothecary and 1 blacksmith and 5 random roles that are going to be close to Vampire and Coven related roles. Stalkers/Militias/Gravediggers/Revivers and the lot. My guess is going to be 1 Stalker, 1 Militia, 2 gravediggers, 1 reviver as the final village roles. I exclude seers because they are too swingy for this setup. Except for maybe the novice seer because they would also see us as neutral and give us an incentive to claim.
On to some more merchants discussion since I think I barely scratched the surface at this point. I as a merchant want to win from the other merchants which means both staying alive as long as possible while making the largest amount of money existing. But I think there are also some drawbacks to buying and selling. I think that every merchant gets the same night options offered with no price visible. Therefore if we all want to buy the same items the price will be high because competition. If nobody wants to buy an item the price will be low. The trick I think is going for items that are not as desirable as other items but still better than the bad items. Avoiding the competition, going for the bargains. My other guess is that craftable items are worth near nothing because… well… they’re craftable. The obvious exception being Armour items (If they are craftable, I don’t have much knowledge of the BlackSmith yet).
My second thought related to merchants and selling is that selling to a fellow merchant will inflict penalties of some sort. Either being that you sell for low or sell for very high and they lose money. The other option being a bonus in that selling to a merchant will make money for both of the merchants. On that topic of protection items. I think they sell for high, but giving them to a fellow merchant is not something you’d want to do because they then can sell them the next night for also a lot of money. Then another thought. If items decrease in amount over the game they will become more valuable. That is if they end up in the GY or get used or anything.
That brings us to the next topic. What items are we able to expect over the course of this game? My guess is mainly consumables and renewables. Runes + Armour + Weapons + Potions. I think Demonic Relics are out simply because they’re rare and they would be worth a fk tonne to the lucky soul who winds up with them ergo they swing the market too much. On the same note wolf items are out too assuming a vampire. As for starting items I think Merchants will start with some. Armour + a random item. This is because we have to buy N1 and will lose money if we don’t sell so we need to have the option to sell N1.
This also brings us to the 3th Merchant thought: Trade-routes. My guess is continuously selling to the same person brings a bonus or malus depending on the items being sold. The idea being that selling to the same person establishes a trade route which will give more money depending on if you sell different items to them but less money if you sell the same item continuously. This gives us Merchants the dilemma of having to choose between maintaining a trade route or selling for gold.
On another item topic: Popular buys will become more expensive to buy as the game progresses. And as the game progresses the items we will be presented will also increase in value. This brings me to another point that I previously didn’t even consider. There may be relic items in the game and we get the option later on to buy the relics that can trigger/remove their effects (Demonic Eye and Heart of Hades). The flaw with this is that we as merchants may decide to not buy the relics so a possible DemonCult can never trigger them. And the possible demonic items that are in the village may turn out to be useless if we never buy the trigger items. This is a very specific scenario though.
On to the next topic: Council. I think council is in the game and every merchant worth their salt wants to be on it. This is because Council can generate items out of thin air.
My last thought: Outlaws. If we try to sell to an outlaw they will just take the item and we will generate no money.
To the last point: Strategy, I’m going to employ a high-risk strategy. With potential thieves etc keeping items is a waste of inventory. This also makes sure I can buy high later on when I believe the value of items increase.
 N1:
Okay so apparently we’re able to leave the fking town. This puts dirt in my setup speculation since I do have to eliminate coven over a numbers issue. Perhaps if it was more than 20 I would have allowed coven to remain as a viable option. If all supposed 3 of the merchants are able to leave -> 4-basement, 5-coven 6 village with the 3 loot piñatas leaving. Merchants I think are balanced around them becoming loot piñatas at all points in time which allows for the coven. Instead I’m putting in a subfaction war. Subfaction war also fills in with the chaos because subfactions want to finish each other off to detriment of the village often. There is also no council which is kind of disappointing. Then again it’s maybe good because whoever as merchant gets on the council has a definite advantage. My proposed setup is this:
VM, MS, IL, 2 GD, 1 Stalkers, 1 Militias, 2 Thieves, Novice Seer, 3 merchants, RS, BS, Apothecary, LM, Mortician.
I’m also given the Potion of cleansing buying option so I’m not gonna rule out Damned and Demoncult just yet.
I start with as predicted: Armour and a Hvísla Rune (low cost item). I’m obviously going to sell the Hvísla for 4 gold to make some money for next nights purchase. I will keep the Armour for now eventhough keeping it does not fit in my high risk playstyle. The armour is worth 31 gold at this point. I am also going to buy cleanse potions because of the volume of the items that is. All items are tier 1 items so I’m going to assume the value between the three does not vary a whole lot so 2x cleansing is more than 1x weakness eventhough weakness costs less. The other choice was Fjat Rune which costs as much as the 2x cleansing potions.
Then we go to a second alternate setup. One involving Outlaws. Merchants and Outlaws have synergy. Outlaws want to collect items while Merchants want to sell them. Therefore it would not totally be out of the question that this is a potential combination. It also poses a second neutral faction to support the vampire because both Outlaws and Merchants want the game to not finish too quickly. Collecting items and selling items etc. This poses as help for the very confirmed Vampire who wants the game to start slow even if they’re found early. This WILL eliminate the novice seer since there will be too many neutrals and instead puts in a drunk or even a regular seer. A possible setup for this would be: VM, 3 Merchants, 2 Outlaws of varying degrees, 2 Thieves, 1 RS, 1 BS, 1 Apothecary, mortician, (drunk) seer, 1 stalker, 1 militia, 2 gravediggers, whatever.
I’m not sure if I consider my ability anything strong. In general I don’t really give a crap about who I transfer items too, I just want to make bank. The only thing it does is identify potential merchants in the early game and/or find potential evils later in the game. However I’m still using the ability to generate visits AND to find a potential Merchant N1. I’m using it on the one who nukes the everloving SHIT out of the game in Gandhi who I’m also going to transfer my Hvísla to.
I have also already identified Tomyris as a potential Bandit/BoB/Merchant due to the “new faction confirmed” comment. Same with Gilgamesh referse psychologying the shit out of everybody.
On the topic of things already being proven false
-          No council
-          Price options are visible so no invisible bidding against other merchants
The rest has to remain to be seen.

This has been a complete waste of my time. Anyone with any real power has chosen to aid Mvemba, or refuses to help me out. So, I’m leaving. No need to stay around in an area where I have no friends, or at least no-one even remotely friendly.
I sold my armour off to Philip, the only one who I consider a friend within this group of leaders. As for my Potion, I once again have forced it upon Mvemba. Apparently, the first one didn’t have the desired effect but maybe this one will. Or maybe they’ll choke on it. I can only hope.
My hope is that the wolfpack slaughters everyone here, but my read of the situation is that they are not in the best of positions either. Anyway, I leave this all behind, and hope that the next time will be more fortuitous.

Personal Log
Well, this venture was apparently destined to be a failure. Not only did my initial attempts to build a covert trading route fail, the overt route I attempted to make, after my intentions were forced into the light, was also ruined. A complete disaster.
The day started poorly when Pedro, the local Mason in the area, alerted the assembled leaders as to my refusal to join his little club. Sensing their suspicion, I was forced to reveal my true intentions, although this did not satisfy everyone.
As I spent most of the day explaining that I had the best intentions so long as they satisfied my own reasons for being around, other leaders came forward with incriminating information on other leaders and the focus gradually shifted towards them.
Eventually, I got into a discussion with Hojo about furthering any potential trade dealings when Mvemba finally butted in, revealed themselves as another Merchant (having faked the potion from yesterday to ensure Victoria’s demise) and had shown to be very reckless (and incredibly fortunate) with their dealings, having randomly picked the first night to sell their armour to him.
Mvemba remained incredibly cocky about the entire situation and Hojo predictably chose to do dealings with them which left me in a pretty tight spot. I spread the notion that the wolves needed to target Mvemba since he was acting so “pro village” so I hope they take notice.
In the background, the leaders eventually settled on lynching Teddy who’s ultimate fate was to be tarred and feathered. Time will tell if that lynch works out for them.
As for me, I returned to the markets, furious at the day’s events and my growing misfortune. Recognising my inability to catch up to the profits that Mvemba had lined up for themselves, I set on putting into motion what efforts I could for getting him killed. As such, I picked up another Potion of Weakness, and used my earlier one on the man in question. That would weaken his ability to make any further purchasing, thus weakening their bargaining position with the village. And who knows, maybe this wolfpack might do me a favour…

Personal Log
A mixed day today. My reports on Queen Victoria showed that she did in fact have numerous assets at their disposal. Worrying news as this means she may in fact have come to this place for similar reasons as I. Even worse, it means that my use of the communication rune was a waste, a setback I can ill afford.
Fortunately, events would swing in my favour. Another leader by the name of Mvemba had used a strange, and rather unstable, variation of the standard Minor Clarity Potion to determine Victoria’s true allegiance. Although, it didn’t work quite as they had hoped. The potion had shown the Wolfpack result so I, along with some other leaders, quickly placed our votes on Victoria to see their story.
As I had feared, she claimed to simply be a Merchant in these lands. A rival! Fortunately, Or perhaps unfortunately depending on how future days go, the rest of the assembled leaders were unwilling to risk letting a potential wolf slip through their fingers and chose (wisely) to lynch Victoria despite their claims. Although, they could have used a less rusty axe. Maybe I could find one….
Some other insignificant claims happened, but all in all, despite the awful start, the day ended quite well. I took a brief few moments to scan the markets once more, but only some Weakness Potions were within my current price range so I purchased those. In addition, I successfully sold off both runes in my possession for a small profit so hopefully my future trips to these stalls will bear far grander fruit.
Finally, I spent my agents off to check on Harald. The poor man had appeared to have become stricken down with some illness that affected their speech. Poor fellow. More importantly, if they had any valuables that were likely to pass down to any next of kin, I was eager to hear about it.

I wandered into this brave new land with much optimism. True, the place was looking to tear itself apart but what better place to make a vast profit than in the middle of a protracted battle? Unfortunately, I had caught word that some others had come to the same conclusion and were also setting up shop in the area. The nerve, cutting into my profit margins. Well, I will just have to show them up for the lowly peasants that they are.
Considering it was a dangerous place, I ensured I had adequate protection by wearing the finest Steel Armour. In addition, I brought a communication rune with me in the hopes of establishing a discreet trading network.
Therefore, despite the many temptation to sell my current wares in the hope of being able to acquire more expensive stock, I chose to use my rune on Queen Victoria, while also sending out some spies to assess what assets she may be hiding. After all, she may be one of my rivals!
After that, I had a quick peruse through the local markets to see what I could purchase. While many various potions caught my eye, I eventually settled on a stalking rune. My reasoning was that I presumed the village would be interested in items that could help identify the traitors amongst them.
And with such a busy evening finished, I retired to my room and slept, safe in the knowledge that I was safe from any treachery.

The next few posts...
In the most recent ext game, a neutral role was secretly introduced - the Merchant. Each Merchant is against each other, but aside from that, doesn’t give much of a toss about who wins. Their only concern is making as much money as possible, and staying alive. The new few posts on the blog are the records of the three Merchants from the first game it appeared in.

boo-004 - The Journal of Dr Savvy Frankenstein. Night 4
Disappointing results from the previous night's work, despite somehow keeping the contents of my stomach from escaping and ruining things. The recently lynched had provided me with nothing useful to work with (turns out, she was a zombie, which explains quite a lot). So, with my stomach still leaving me queasy, I went to sleep, hoping I wouldn't choke on my own vomit.
Well, evidently, I did survive the night. But six people didn’t (although one of the bodies appears to have duplicated itself which was quite intriguing. I suspect some body swapping shenanigans has played a part in that oddity). Well, plenty of bodies means a better chance of someone dying with the final piece that I am missing.
As for the remaining survivors, the mass killings spurred them into something approaching “action”, demanding the identities and roles of everyone in the town. Again, I was left wondering how this town was even able to operate if no-one knew what was going on, or even who their own neighbour was.
Inevitably, I was required to reveal myself, and the nature as to why I was in town. To my surprise, a few had heard of me although a few referred to me as a villain. A villain! The nerve of it. In any case, they did not press the issue any further, choosing to point their suspicions elsewhere.
As for the Council, it turns out they couldn’t find this antidote they had said they would use (and I was left wondering if there had been any to begin with). Apparently, they had argued about what kind of equipment they were getting in, and due to the deaths of some Councillors (such a shame....), were looking to elect some new officials.
Unsurprisingly, we got to a point where we had too many people we wanted to get rid of, and just not enough time to get rid of them (apparently, we can’t kill too many people at once although no-one could explain why).
Eventually, they chose to get rid of a Knight in black armour, and a man named Elias (although I was looking to remove the Miner of the town as there was significant evidence against him. But, apparently that isn’t good enough for certain people in this town).
And so, I find myself rummaging around in a graveyard once more, with a lot more bodies to choose from but still feeling the symptoms of the poisoned food. I hope I find this missing piece soon, I fear that time is running out, fast.

boo-004 - The Journal of Dr Savvy Frankenstein. Night 3
Well, I’m not sure what to have expected from this “Midnight Council” but it appears basic competency was, in fact, too much to hope for. This, I found out after throwing up for the fourth time in under an hour and learning that this had been a deliberate choice by this Council. Serving me up tainted food instead of rationing the food (others had been poisoned as well, but who cares about that?). Well, that certainly does not bode well for the future.
And it had been such a pleasant evening as well. To my surprise, I was able to salvage a surprising amount from the corpse of the slain dog. Turns out the dog was an innocent, unfortunate for the town but very fortunate for me. That source of innocence is just what is needed to make sure my creation aides this town in their plight (despite their poisoning of me, I’m still going to help them). More surprising, I found a source of magic within the dog’s corpse (some gravediggers would claim the dog was a Drunk Seer. How odd). So, I was able to retrofit the source of magic into my revival experiments. Just one more piece to go.
Back to the activities of the day, I must admit that my… irritation at the Council’s decision irked me more than I realised, which escalated to a point where I was accidentally trying to lead a revolution against them. How I will find time to finish my work AND lead this apparent revolution, I do not know. But, I suppose I will have to try.
Well, either way, the Council found themselves on the wrong end of the Village’s fury, and despite numerous arguments as to which of the Councillors we would get rid of, we eventually settled on Daphne, due to a conflict of reports on their previous night’s activities.
As night set in, I prepared myself for the work I would be doing, made all the harder by my constant need to throw up anything I had tried to eat. This had better not kill me, that would be a terrible way to go (and I haven’t even finished my work!)
