Kade was humming a tune to keep himself entertained as he washed dishes. Normally, he and the others worked assembly-line style to clean up the kitchen after dinner. Charlie would put up the leftovers and everyone brought their own dishes to the sink, Kade usually washed, Dani dried, Graham put away, and Cody wiped down surfaces.
Tonight, however, the emergency line had been busy and Kade had the dubious fortune of being the first one back, so he figured he might as well get something accomplished.
Don’t mind him dancing his way across the kitchen.

Kade huffed his way from the garage to the elevator and from the elevator to the kitchen where he yanked open the fridge and started piling Tupperware containers full of leftovers onto the kitchen table.
“No one respects rest days anymore.”
He took a plate from the cupboard and bread from the bread box and began constructing a towering masterpiece of a sandwich.

The firefighter managed to snag a small piece of leftover bacon from the tray before his father picked it up.
“Right behind ya.”
A similar expression came to the patriarch's face as he moved a hand to give Kade's shoulder a small squeeze. "That's a fantastic idea. How about we get her some tulips this time? I'm sure the florist will make something real special."
He pulled away just so he could finish eating the wonderful breakfast. Tucking the newspaper under his arm, he took the tray with one hand while the other held his glass of juice, gulping it down on the way to the door.
"Let's get moving before the day gets too warm."
