Chronic illness is exhausting and annoying. It can feel depressing. It can feel isolating. It can feel debilitating and overwhelming in its endlessness. But hello, goddamn, I’m alive.

Okay so I've been diabetic for about a year now and I'm still navigating my way through this hell...I mean life. My sister wants to go to this spa for her birthday that's like 20 different types of saunas and I don't know how my sugars will react...I'm typically always in range only being over 200 about 6 times in my first year. Any advise?
If you’re on a pump try not to stay disconnected for more than an hour at a time or you might miss out on too much basal insulin. Most importantly though, drink lots of water and stay hydrated! It is important for anyone going in saunas but especially for those of us with T1D.

what do you do when you can literally never remember to check your blood sugars? I try and try to remember but nothing works, why can't I just get better & get back on better habits. I seriously need advice from someone else that goes through the same struggle I go through.
You’ve probably heard this before, but it could help to set some alarm reminders on your phone or a watch. If you like “to do” lists, you could also add it there as well. Put sticky notes around your house on the fridge, on cupboards, on the ceiling above your bed.. If you are interested you could also look in to getting a cgm, I have found it incredibly helpful in improving my overall control. Hope that helps!

Any resources or recommendations for a T1D about to be booted from parent's awesome insurance? Turning 26 sucks.
I haven’t gone through this process yet actually. So hopefully some of my followers in the USA who have can chime in. I’ll be sure to post any messages I get!

Hi. I'm not sure but I think I might have diabetes. But I don't want to just assume it without checking with someone first. I have most of the symptoms listed online but idk if I should be worried. Is it worth it going to the doctors to see? Or should I just let it go? I don't think my family will believe me when I say I think I have diabetes when I don't know for sure
If you have to ask the question, then the answer is yes. It can’t hurt to be checked out and have the answer be no... but it CAN hurt to wait even longer without being treated if you actually do have diabetes. Please see someone soon!

I have 1 type too. (I'm from Italy) And I had a boy-friend who had it too. And I can't forget him because of the feeling that I felt to stay with an other person who can understand me like nobody before. (I'm sorry if there are some errors)
It sounds like you have a great support system between the two of you! I think that is incredibly important in overall type 1 care. The people around us help keep us sane :)

I'm so glad I found this blog, thank you very much, I love the funny way you show the situations and also gives another light to the anger and anxiety I feel when that happens. I don't have too much as T1 diabetic, actually I was diagnosed on November last year, but in this short time I have experienced almost all those situation, the lows, on highs, the times I want to give up and eat everything. Please continue this way, this blog lights my diabetics days. BTW, sorry for the bad english.
I apologize that it has taken me so long to respond! I have been on a bit of a hiatus. I was also diagnosed in the month of November. Happy diaversary to both of us! You learn a lot in the first year of having type 1, and new situations are always coming along, but the best we can do is be as prepared as we can and roll with the punches. Best of luck to you!
