i think gabriel/dante ship is very yummy... not romantically but imagine the 'ah yes psychology and philosophy yeah i've heard of them' guy simply not being able to figure out whatever gabriel is. dante, meditating while thinking 'why does he stare at me like that...' and gabriel is just very politely sitting there to see how long dante can sit still for.

or or dante saying one of his quotes only to forget it a second after and gabriel sitting there processing why the fuck this guy would say that and trying to decifer the context behind it. 'why would you kill birds with a stone? why would you say it to kuromaku when he asked you to go to the store? do you know it's illegal to kill birds in a city???'

the entirety of their dynamic is 'others think we know each other best. they're wrong. i have no idea what is wrong with that guy'. dante is sheepish about it and gabriel is just. not sure why he's supposed to know anything about dante since they never even talk to each other. it's great, this is a sandwich of premium nothingness. truly a ship for an heir of void and a mage of heart /j

(follow up to the headcanons from earlier)

i geniunly think that pik is one of the most active people out there. he's always doing something, be it planning his escape or expanding his empire. but narratively it almost feels. passive, i suppose. like his actions are not there to actively do something with the narrative but to aid it almost. like in the land of kings he's a force. he is a big and strong emperor that makes for a perfect antagonist -- look! he's strong and scary, ofc he'll be starting a war. when? soon! don't worry, just keep being anxious about it. and all this tension forces kuro to seek allies to fight pik -- who knows when he attacks? but by choosing allies kuro also gains enemies as well. and as a result the card world is devided into two factions. no unity as a result of pik's passive influence.

while varu is somewhat passive in actions. he doesn't opress his citizens himself, no, he makes the police to opress them, yet narratively i see him more active. does that make sense?

pik by existing creates this gap between the clones. he's the reminder of hostility, of a possible threat. while varu's mere existence doesn't affect anything, his actions, as little as they are now, are where it all is at. his little pranks little by little chip away at others' sanity (mainly kuro's but yk) and the whole thing is further excilirated by pik's aura of 'yeah i'm making missiles now so what?' and what we get is

drama

hope you don't mind some headcanons

gabriel is an heir of void (my boy IS void itself for how little we see of him in the comic... it'd be super funny if he contributes nothing to the ongoing drama in the next volumes... funny but oh so damn tragic)

kuromaku is a maid of time (he is a cleaner/protector to the core. trying to protect a certain timeline for their session to win is like. very him)

dante is a mage of heart (he ascended without the ascention bed that sounds very heart to me. also he is an example that many follow so. yeah?)

felix is a knight of hope (bc the guy weaponizes happiness and he's trying to do it for others (kinda??? ig????) also he's super important)

varu is a prince of mind (trying to brainwash his people? he would definately do some more mind-fuckery if he so could)

brolly is a page of space (bc he's stuck in a tower and everything feels too claustrophobic yk? also he's like. super important for the plot of the comic. he's also artsy sooooo)

romeo is a rogue of breath (he's a very free guy and i think he tried to give that same freedom to his girls. he failed only because there's only so much you can give before an all-powerful wish-fulfiller's battery dies... he's very charitable overall a true rarity mlp kinnie)

pik is a bard of blood (he hates the outfit soooo much. perhaps he just decides not to ascend cuz. well. is it really worth it if you can do cool stuff without ascending anyway? although being able to fly is cool no matter what...) (also i think he finds it fun to see others beat the living shit out of each other. as long as he's the one on top it's fun)

nicole is a witch of doom (cuz science is just looking at the face of death and saying 'is anyone going to break that' and not waiting for an answer)

emma is a thief of rage (bc life is unfair society is unfair and the only thing you can do is use this rage to reshape the world as it's supposed to be. maybe.)

cleo is a seer of light (c'mon look at her. she's very rose-core)

helen is a sylph of life (in an rpg game she would definately be a cute healer mage idk what to say, i'm sorry. i think she really tries to be helpful to her friends and tries to provide some respite to them cuz. well. life is hard but maybe drinking warm tea with friends will make it better. yk?)

i really dislike how gabriel is charactarized by the fandom half the time. he's either the ever so innocent can do no wrong baby or just. idk. omnipotent horror creature ig. or super dumb.

i mean i get it. we basically have no insight on him bc we have no canon content with him (og fyodrx9 comic doesn't count cuz it's outdated more or less) but it's not a reason to just. idk. brush him off entirely and just make him into a weird looking question asking doll, you know?

and the saddest thing is there's nothing to do about it but wait. because the diamond volume will come out eventually and until then any attempt at making sense of gabriel might just be pointless. or worse. a reason for grief. because the guy you made him into in your head is so much better than anything the canon material has to offer.
