I'm still pondering my clinic instructor's advice to not bother getting fitted. I'm petite at 5 feet so I will most likely need a shorter club. Here's an interesting video about what to consider for fit. I tend to think that men have little understanding of the physical differences between men and women when in comes to sports. Things such as center of gravity matter, but Conan is making all sorts of sense here.

Third day at the driving range
It was a beautifully clear day at the Presidio Golf Course. I talked to the coach about buying a set of clubs.
Should I buy the full set or half? She recommended to get a half just to get started and then fill out the set as you need it. In most of the decent starter sets, the clubs are pretty good, except for the driver. That one will probably be the first big purchase.
Do I need to get fitted? Surprisingly, she said, 'no'. She said for my size, and needs, I won't find too many advantages to getting fitted. Since my goal is to just get a set that lasts me for at least 2 years, she said I was fine buying a half set off the rack. She spoke highly of the Adams Idea set and the Callaway Solaire II set.
So today, I worked on my backswing:
keeping the angle of the club shallow
stretching my arms straight back
dropping my shoulders
rotating my front shoulder back.
I'm still trying to instill the muscle memory to a good backswing. I now when I've hit it right, but I feel that I only find the right form about 1 in 8 times.

Adams Womens Idea a12 OS: Executive vs. Complete Set
I finally bought my first golf accessory: a glove. I’m taking baby steps.
I asked the salesperson at Fairway Golf in Mountain View, CA about the Adams Womens Idea a12 OS Set. He said it is a great starter set and showed me the complete set. I asked about the Executive Set, which has seven clubs (including a stand bag) instead of twelve (including a cart bag). He recommended against the Executive Set because I would spend more just filling out the rest of the set. The complete set should get me through the first two years, unless I’m playing several times a week.
Does anyone have an opinion about a half-set versus a complete set?

Now that I’ve had a few lessons out on the driving range, with borrowed clubs, I’m starting to look into my own equipment so that I can improve and focus on my form. I learned that getting my own equipment was critical when I learned to snowboard. I was advised not to consider clubs specifically designed for petite women.
Right now, I’m considering this set: Adams Ladies Golf Idea A12OS Sandstone Executive Set. It’s not a complete set, but it’s enough to get me started until I know what I like. Afterall, I’m at the stage where I don’t know what I don’t know.

With my small hands, I'm starting out with the Ten Finger Grip, aka Baseball Grip. Here's an excellent video demonstrating all of the main golf grips.

First Time
After many months of Googling local golf courses and instructors, I finally said, "What the heck!" and attended my first clinic at the Presidio Golf Course. It was a one hour women's beginner clinic by Dede Braun-Moriaty. She's amazing. She's encouraging every step of the way and is really enthusiastic about getting newbies excited about the game. She focus on just getting me to properly grip the club and get a descent backswing position.
