Lin never shows affection. Too stubborn and too grossed out at the thought of people seeing her vulnerability, the thought of a kiss or even a hug in public is enough to make her scrunch her nose in disgust.

Calloused hands still find the small of your waist, however. Keeping you close and in sight no matter how "safe" a place may be. Her eyes are gentle when you're the focus, always listening intently and always soft in her tone when talking to you.

Whenever coming back from work, she always makes it a habit to stop by the closest grocery store to leave with an energy drink for herself and a cold iced tea for you. She has it cracked open and ready for you to drink by the time you greet her at the door.

On your morning walks, she grabs the prettiest flower she can find and tucks in behind your ear before continuing on as usual. A small tradition that had stayed ever since your first date.

Slightly chapped lips grace your forehead as you stir from your sleep, her cold body flush against your warm one as her hand holds yours, pressing another icy kiss against your knuckles.

The slight upward twitch in her lips as you chew out Korra and Ikki for spilling the fresh batch of punch you had just made for everyone, and she barely stifles a chuckle as you send them off to pick double the fruit you need to make a new one.

Lin's presence is commanding wherever she goes- but behind closed doors in the comfort of your warmth, Lin relaxes into your touch and allows herself to rely on you. She closes her eyes as you massage as you take your hand through her hair, rambling about your coworkers and what you did that day.

You work your hands down her tense shoulders, massaging gently as the tension visibly leaves her body the more you work into the dips of her back. She never thought she'd live a life of comfort- a mundane routine where she gets to see your face every day and the mindless chatter of petty gossip.

She wouldn't have it any other way.

look I could sit here and argue with you about comphet and how gold star lesbians are rare and how many lesbians especially in older generations did not realize that men were not for them until they'd already had a failed long term relationship with one or several and how Lin's story could actually fit right into that pattern if that's what the fanfic writer wants (because ultimately it's fanfic, we're doing this for fun among ourselves, why do you give a shit, don't like don't read) but it's honestly so much funnier if I just say actually her middle name is Lesbian. Lin Lesbian Beifong. Always has been always will be. She thought Tenzin was a girl from birth to like age 35 and finding out he wasn't is ultimately why they broke up.

Sorry to tell you this, but Lin isn't a lesbian. She dated Tenzin. Lin could be bi but lesbian? No. From Gaang children, only Kya is confirmed to be a LGBT member, Izumi? Straight, married with a man, and she has a son and a daughter, Lin? Dated a man and never dated again, which might make her sort of lgbt coded. Y'all are being ridiculous with your headcanons. And why is sexuality so important to you? Is that ALL that matters in a character? Tell me i'd be happy to listen and discuss it with you normally. Is sexuality, what a character is into ALL that matters to you? Is that all there is to them? Tell me.

i understand why the ‘grizzled loner who slowly melts & improves their outlook on life when forced to take care of a kid’ trope is a male exclusive role, bc the optics of a grizzled loner woman healing by becoming a mother are maybe not so good, but every time i think abt a hypothetical female version of that trope i black out instantly. could we maybe just do it one time and all agree to be cool about it
