Reasons why computer problems seem to mysteriously vanish as soon as a technician shows up:

I am trying to navigate the current discourse around tme/tma. I have read your explanation of what the terms mean and am still not entirely clear on them.

1. The terms seem very binary and dont leave much room for people who may experience transmisogyny sometimes and not other times. Yes, some people do experience transmisogyny and some ppl dont, but how does the term apply to a multigender, or intersex, or even a single gendered perisex transfemme? Are nonbinary transfemmes like myself affected in the same way?

2. The framing of "affected" and "exempt" is something I never encountered before, is that framing something that can apply to other axes of oppression such as exorsexism and intersexism? Could the terms exorsexism exempt and exorsexism affected be used?

i think its best to understand "exempt" not as a universal thing- ie someone is never ever affected by transmisogyny- but that they are able to exempt themselves under most conditions. consider the Imane Khelif debacle last summer- when she was accused of being "a man" (read: transfeminine), the key defense people used was that she was in fact AFAB. the mere fact she was able to enter the olympics as a woman at all was the privilege of a cis woman!

don't take the words TME and TMA at super face value; the reason we use them is that every other terminology to describe "is a transfeminized AMAB person who is the intended target of transmisogyny and can not escape it"/"not that group" has been picked apart, and we are holding our ground at this one.
