FAME: The Musical is one I never thought I would actually like. Like I said in my earlier post, I never listened to any of the cast recordings, film, tv series, or anything else. I thought this was going to be one of those happy go lucky stage musicals musicals that was based on a film. I was going in blind which was a wonderful idea.

Boy was I wrong. I really felt for a lot of the characters and loved watching them grow from awkward freshman to seasoned performers. It was refreshing to see characters who were so relatable yet obviously fiction. My favorite character had to be Serena who was so wide eyed at her own dream but kept going at it. Speaking of dreams, that it the overall theme of the musical. All the students have the dream and drive to become famous. The teachers dream for their students to become successful as both individuals and professionals.

I highly suggest watching this musical blind like I did. I knew of the musical but thought of FAME as a fluff musical with no real plot because it was based on the 1980 film of the same name. The version I watched was the 30th anniversary version that was filmed during its run on the West End. This version is also available to watch on BroadwayHD.

Overall, give this musical a chance. It surprised me and it may surprise you.

I kinda had this scene envisioned in my brain where robin is trying to comfort mike (yk by just rambling abt smth unrelated basically)and the rambling slowly turns into her just talking abt vickie and i imagine it kinda clicks for mike and makes him feel seen in the sense of his feelings but also just relating to her? idk it made sense in my head
