in no way did we deserve bojack horseman ... it had nuanced characters who were also furries with ridiculous names. it had a sincere depiction of mental illness. 90% of celebrities guest starred as a talking shrimp or something. it ran for 6 seasons and never had an episode worse than "mid" or "forgettable" or "preachy but not wrong". it had a beautiful surreal dying dream episode that lost the emmy to rick and morty. it even had vincent adultman

When BoJack Horseman (2014-2020) said "you can't keep doing shitty things and then feel bad about yourself like that makes it ok. you need to be better" and "all we have are the connections we make" and "I really should've thought about the view from halfway down" and "sometimes you have to take responsibility for your own happiness" and "you do the hokey pokey and you turn yourself around, you turn yourself around, THAT'S what it's all about" and "things have to get worse before they can get better" and "in real life, the big gesture isn't enough, you need to be consistent" and "if we hadn't met each other until now, we wouldn't be the people we are now" and, my personal favourite, "every day it gets a little easier, but you gotta do it every day, that's the hard part, but it does get easier".
#ok i literally just finished the show#like less than an hour ago#and Man. yeah#like i’m not *quite* as optimistic as op about the show’s themes but this is certainly One Of Those Themes#it’s about healing. it’s about getting better; becoming a better person#it’s also about how that healing process is never complete and it’s certainly not linear#but it *is* about healing.#i really should have thought about the view from halfway down.#TVFHWD ended the way it did because this show was not going to let you off so easy#with a death that makes everything Sad and Tragic and *Finished* because that’s not the story that’s being told!#diane said it best. ‘sometimes life’s a bitch and you keep on living.’#also op i saw your reading comprehension questions and yeah these tags are partly a response to those too
