Having an ongoing fic with not that many views sort of invokes a mixed bag of emotions.

Because on the one hand, I really did work hard on that thing... and even though I wrote it for myself, it might be nice if other people acknowledged its existence.

But on the other hand, since not that many people are reading it, I really don't have to worry about being too factually accurate or making sure characters don't sigh ten times in a chapter or that I already used two semicolons in that paragraph or forgetting this specific medical term and substituting another...

I mean, I still do worry about it, but who is going to complain?

The place they are driving from needs to be some distance away from New England, but only about one day's drive under ideal circumstances (spoiler: they are not ideal circumstances).

Although this might sound somewhat familiar (The Last Of Us, anyone?), the protagonist of the story is a 14-year-old girl and the deuteragonist is a man in his late 40s to early 50s. The crux of the story is that he is trying to drive her home, which is several hundred miles away. How she ended up so far away from home is a major plot point that I will get to later.

The man also has his own reasons for making the trip with her, though the reasons are not nefarious or criminal in any way. And as an additional detail, they end up traveling with three other kids, none of whom are related to either of them. I will clarify their reasons for ending up on the road trip in the future, but in the meantime let's figure out what US State the main character is from, and thus trying to get back to. The next poll will determine where they are driving from.

The only thing I am certain of is that her home is in New England, so...
