thinking about the ouroboros nature of yoohankim right now. the act of consumption as an act of creation. the feeling of opening your mouth wide and gorging yourself on someone else, taking them into you and saying this is me now, it's inside of me so it is me, i've circluded it and made it mine. like writing, food is an art form that requires participation from the viewer. mastication becomes creation. han sooyoung creating yoo joonghyuk out of her desire to save kim dokja, carving off parts of herself for a meal. kim dokja surviving off of reading yoo joonghyuk's story, telling himself i am yoo joonghyuk, bringing that meal's creation to completion by savouring every bite. yoo joonghyuk being driven forward by the version of kim dokja found in han sooyoung's writing, a second-hand version of himself through third-hand eyes. 1863rd getting through the round by taking yoo joonghyuk's place, kim dokja using the tactics yoo joonghyuk invented, yoo joonghyuk learning how to live from them both in turn. each of them consuming each other's stories, each of them creating themselves out of the shadows the others cast.

Orv is such a beautiful subversion of the isekai genre but also a love letter to it.

Most isekai is a very sad power fantasy. What if I died, and it lead to something good? What if I could have friends and be loved and worthy of love, it’s just that the thing that makes me special needs to be somewhere else to be useful? But when I’m useful enough, I can be loved?

and then orv takes a guy, who’s life since he was a child was built on being the victim, because he was, and that was the only way to survive. And when that’s not enough this story calls to him and gives him a reason to live.

But it doesn’t make him powerful, not really, because the entire skill of that stories main character is to know everything about this timeline, and here’s three or four other characters like that. But this thing that you love still matters, because you love it and gave it life, because it let you connect to the feelings of others, because it kept you alive.

And let’s bring the people from home with you, because they already wanted to be your friends. You aren’t just now popular, happiness was within reach the whole time, just gasp it, the only thing in your way is you. You are worthy of love, and people are desperately trying to give it, if you would just allow them.

and it isn’t one truck, one death, that gets him here, but he still keeps dying and trying to die.

orv says please stay, we love you. Tell me about your interests and feelings, your reason to stay alive. Please stop chasing truck-chan, everything you could want is right here is you just stop giving up and laying in the middle of the road.

Your life has value. People care about you and acting like this is hurting them. I love the things you love because you love them. Please come home, please stop trying to disappear from this world.

Current obsession: Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint. I'm only at chapter 385 (which is 69.36% of the whole story according to Webnovel), but I've fallen deeply inlove in the Kim Dokja and Han Sooyoung's (Doksoo) dynamic. You don't understand. I haven't shipped this hard since Levihan I am going insane. I need a support group. 😭😭😭

The apple really doesn't fall far from the tree in kim dokja's case, does it?

Despite how much he villainises her in his mind early in the story, he'll always be more like his mother than he ever knows.

Both victims of abuse who found solace in fiction.

Both very flawed people who've hurt those they care about all while thinking they were doing the best for them.

Throughout orv, kim dokja inadvertently makes the same mistakes his mother did. He sacrifices himself for the ones he loves the most. He doesn't tell them the truth behind his plans despite them being directly affected by them. He avoids showing them how he really feels and pushes them to resent him instead, despite all their attempts to understand him.

He leaves them without a word again and again, forcing them to desperately attempt to fill in that gap in their lives where he once stood. Just as he once needed to.

And that's something he will never escape from.

Thing about uriel/yoo joonghyuk is that they don't really have a relationship or think about each other and that's the bittersweetness of it. its a missed connection, its a never fufilled possibility. things simply worked out differently in this lifeand they didn't become very important to each other. the concept of regression specific romances implies the existence of regressions where nothing happens between them, theyre neutral and our story just happens to be set in one of these times. we dont even think about it. but they absolutely CAN have a really complex and insane relationship.

like the 999th regression??? where she chose to fight by his side because she - a member of the Absolute Good system, a literal angel from heaven - saw the goodness in his heart and believed in him, called him captain, fought back to back with him. and then he DIED IN HER ARMS. and she was so destoryed by his death she fell from grace, lost all reason, by the end was no longer An Absolutely Good Angel but a fucked up Outer God of fire and destruction. Literally no longer a being of good!!

AND his death caused her to set off on a thousand year long singleminded revenge quest that destoryed her and everything that got in her way and by the end was utterly meaningless and nonsensical. but she still couldn't let it go or give up because this was the ONLY thing that had kept her going! her one reason to live was to avenge 999!!

Alternatively, they have a tragic sad toxic enemies arc in 1863. its sad for the same "we could have been something to each other, if things had been different" of the 3rd regression only dialed up to 11 times worse and sadder

In this regression, Yoo Joonghyuk murders everyone she loves and destroys her home. and she justifiably swears vengence and hunts him for ruining her life (I think she's just prone to bloody and destructive revenge sprees tbh. maybe she just likes killing people?), this crime he's done against her is an unforgivable sin and cant be reversed or fixed. their relationship is ruined beyond repair here, theres no hope. AND YET. When 1863 yjh looks at scenes from the 3rd regression, he SPECIFICALLY looks at the memories of Uriel being sweet and happy and fucking. nuzzling his cheek as a little doll on his shoulder. and he calls out to HER NAME. while his REAL uriel is actively raining down flames and killing everyone outside...😭😭😭

Like they're just so...MUCH!!! I'M IN SO MUCH PAIN.
