The Nutcracker, Moscow, Dec. 24
There are times, I swear, when it really looks like he just walked out of a Nineteenth Century romantic novel. (Okay so this ain’t E. T. A. Hoffmann’s your grandfather’s Drosselmeyer, but I’m not complaining.)

Counsellor Drosselmeyer was not a very handsome man; he was small and thin, had many wrinkles on his face, over his right eye he had a large black patch, and he was without hair....

In other words, you are way OOC, Plu.

You probably already know, but Evgeni had yet another spine surgery on March 14 in Israel, this time on the disc between his 6th and 7th cervical vertebrae (at the base of his neck). He said he had a “small shoulder injury” at the end of February. Of course, that turned out to be this, which had probably been going on for a long time. His left hand was losing feeling due to pressure on the nerve going into the arm.
The surgery was successful, but he will need six month to recover. The first reports said that it was to remove a herniated part of the disc. But from here, Yana said that there was, in fact, also a replacement disc put it, so yeah, more screws, again. Again four of them, 14mm each. ;(
OMG! What happened to Plushenko?!

Evgeni was operated today
As I was sure ever since morning, the 6th feeling told me….
Here are the declarations of Evgeni and Ilia Pekarsky:
Evgeni: “During the medical examination conducted, they discovered a hernia between the 6th and 7th cervical vertebrae. The hernia was pressing on a nerve, so my left hand was almost not working, so I had to go to the next step. The doctor immediately warned that over the next 5 months, at least I will not be allowed to jump, do any jumps.”
Evgeni also added that due to the problems he cancels the shows in Japan, China, Bulgaria and other countries. It is about 25 performances. He plans to resume the tour in the autumn, in September.
Evgeni: “I’m just not physically able to skate in the show, because for the first time will have to wear a special collar. But I don’t want to loose the time doing nothing. During this period, that I am not allowed to train in full force, I will continue to create the program with Sergei Filin and Yuri Posokhova. While there is time, it should be used with advantage. In general, in the coming months, the main task - is to recover so that nothing prevents me to continue training well. My plans for a performance at the Olympic Games 2018 do not change, I will continue to work.”
Ilia Pekarsky: “After the examination, Evgeni had a serious problem in the cervical region. There were two options. The first is to try for a while to do without surgery, pain relievers , and other procedures, but such treatment would take 2-3 years, and during this period, he would not be allowed to skate. In fact, it would mean the end of his sports career, two or three years - this term for an athlete is very long, and for him, who worked in this field all his life, such a scenario was unacceptable. So, listen to me, Zhenya did not even consider this option.
Second - do the operation. Evgeni indicated the surgery and I, as an experienced specialist, I have no doubts it was necessary.  Because of problems in the cervical spine, Zhenya had a weakened left arm. It was weaker than of the average person. I demonstrated him by showing it on Yana. Even the woman’s hand was stronger, because Zhenya barely felt his hand.. And for me - this is the main indication for surgery.
What’s next? After surgery within the next 6 weeks Zhenya has to wear a special detachable collar. He can take it off, but to sleep with it. After one month and a half or two, he can start swimming. About three months later to go on the ice. And only then try to do jumping.
If he will fulfill all the requirements, and if he doesn’t rush anything, after six months he will be able to start a normal training.”
